I have been looking at the slimming world web site and would like to give the diet a real go. I don't really want to join a class (work/family commitments). Can anyone explain how many healthy options I can have each day and also how to choose between green and red days?

A thread has been started on money saving old style about slimming world and recipe suggestions and ideas that will help you.0

You get two healthy A's -milk and cheese
And two healthy B's - these are things like cereal or bread (on green days, meat is a healthy B, on red days pasta, rice, potatoes and beans are healthy extras)
These are all limited amounts per healthy extras
You choose if you want a red (original) or green day. On a red day, meat is a free food. On a green day, rice, potatoes, pulses are free.
I prefer green days as I find I can make many more free meals on green. Quorn is free or low syn and can be used to make lots of different meals.Quidco cashback paid out so far £745.89 :j0 -
Thanks mae - I had seen the other thread, but wanted to make sure I wasn't 'overeating' the healthy extras!
Suewre - thanks too! It seems such an easy diet, I thought i would give it a go. I think I'll prefer green days too - I'm not a big meat eater! trying to get dh involved too, who IS a big meat eater - I guess I'll have to compromise!
Thanks again both of you.

Also the 2nd "A" healthy extra is optional, if you find you're not losing much then knock off the 2nd "A".
Strawberries, beans extra are classed as speed foods and supposedly increase the weight lossI haven't got one!0 -
If you take a look at February's Prima Magazine, there is a Free magazine with it called Lose weight feel great and that does have a Slimming World 14 day menu plan that you could follow.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

i lost 3 stone with slimming world 1n 2004 spent 2005 pregnant and put it all back on! opppps Going to join again this week after my birthday (hoping for chocolates)
maybe worth joining to get the hang of the diet and get all the books (they usually have half price membership in jan) another thing to do is tick the box that says you work shifts this way if you miss a week you dont have to pay.
they say people who attend the groups lose more weight
Its a really easy plan to follow

Hello,
I have decided I want to try the Slimming world food Optimisation Diet. I dont really want to go to the classes, as it's not really my thing, and it would cost a lot of money over time.
I seem to have some options though:
Join the online Version, which is £60 for 3 months, all on line, no books;
Postal version, which is £50, and you can access the onlie for 4 weeks, but you get hanfdbooks, magzibe for 1 year etc;
Join a group, and just go for the first week to get the handbooks, then go it alone;
buy the handbooks on ebay.
Can anyone offer me any advice, based on their experiences? I would really appreciate it.
I need to lose about 1 1/2 stone.
Many thanks"Carpe Diem"

I go to slimming world.
You can join and just go to the weigh ins (not stay for the group sessions) but I would recommend staying for the first 3 weeks or so to make sure that you get the plan sorted in your head and the support from the leader. There are some easy pitfalls with the plan so staying for group initally will just help cement them in your mind.
I have lost 1stone 4 lbs since mid Jan, so the plan does work and I find it relatively easy now I have my head round it.

In my opinion you need to go to the classes to get the full benefit. When you start to flag you get encouragement, recipes and inspiration from being in class.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Personally I think that if you are going to do something like this then you need to join the classes. I go to slimming world and if it wasn't for the fact there is someone else who is going to know exactly what I've lost this week I don't think i'd stick to it.
You need the support of the class leader and the rest of the class to give you advice and let you know where you've gone wrong if you havn't lost this week. They get you to write down everything you eat for the first 4 weeks to make sure you understand the concept of slimming world.
I know that I wouldn't have stuck to it if I hadn't had the support of going to class every week.
Others may have a different opinion.
I've lost 1 stone and 5 pounds and it took about 8 weeks:j0
