Slimming World Support Thread

  • Hi,
I definitely agree with Consultant about joining the Losing Weight thread. The guys on there are always encouraging, and the stories are inspirational. There's a regular weigh in, you don't have to declare your weight if you don't want to, but report in any losses (or additions! ) each week. Everyone is in the same boat, and support is always there.

My initial thoughts though were how long is it since you had your baby? You definitely shouldn't aim to try to lose weight too soon after giving birth, because you'll do your body more harm than good. It takes a good few months for your body to settle back down again after your pregnancy, and if you're breastfeeding not recommended at all. If you try to lose weight too soon you'll end up feeling exhausted, and may leave yourself prone to illness and infections. So long as you're not gaining any more weight post-birth I'd recommend you wait at least 6 months until dieting, but it might be worthwhile getting your doctor to give you a check-up first.

From a moneysaving point of view SW and WW can be a bit expensive, but why not follow the eating plans (as consultant said get recipies on the thread, and ex-attendees sell their eating plan books on ebay to help you), and perhaps invest money in a gym membership, or exercise class instead? The key to successful weightloss is to combine healthy eating with exercise. It also helps to keep you energised; essential with a young child.

As an aside, I have followed a healthy eating plan (low fat, low sugar, complex carbs), whilst counting calories since the beginning of the year, which has cost me nothing, and joined the local gym on a promotional low membership fee (£20 p/m) which includes swimming/gym/sauna/exercise classes, etc. and try to go 3 times a week for an hour or so a time. I've lost 26lb in weight, but more importantly I've gone down 3 dress sizes, and I attribute that to the exercising, it's totally changed my body shape, and I feel so much fitter!

I've done both SW and WW in the past, and both diets work. What you have to commit to more than anything is to eat more healthily, and allow yourself treats, but I have had to reduce my portion sizes so that I don't carry on eating vast amounts of food. Now I'd struggle to ever eat what I did before, and cannot eat very sweet foods without feeling a bit sick, so it's helped with my sugar addiction too.

Good luck, and enjoy that baby of yours!
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

  • I am pee-ed off as my second meeting is not til Thursday and i have been using the online support

it won't let me in as I need new password and I can't get this til Thursday

I have been entering my food dairy online and want to print it off for the meeting . . . grrrr

This is just my first week and I know it is working . . . have discovered quorn products which are easy and some are free foods . . . have tried the mince and pieces so far

picked up some of the sausages and burgers from iceland today (then found out they were cheaper in Farmfoods!) need the syn calculator to check!

Farm Foods also have delmonte frozen fruit burst which is low fat but can't work out syns yet.

I did see on one website that to calculate the syn value for any foods (that are not free or healthy choices) you divide the kcal per portion by 20

have tried a few products and it seems to match value of some you find in back of the food optimisation book.

The frylight spray stuff is your friend . . suppose to be cheaper in aldi but I forgot to look . . . the aldi v low fat yogs with multi grain are free foods and filling - they also take ages to eat so slow you down!!
Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.
  • The password i was given tonight was ...................... oranges

i dont know if this is the same for everyone but maybe worth a try???
