My wife has a choc addiction and on the SW diet she used to put a flake in the freezer and enjoy it as a part of her sins when the kids had gone bed and she was cilling.Being frozen it lasted that bit longer
I hope this is of use to someone.

Hi, I am thinking of joining one of the above groups but don't know which would be best if anyone has any advice? I have just had a baby and want to get my diet back on track when I am up and about again. I was wondering which one would be easiest to follow when you have a young family to feed, how long meetings last and whether anyone has had any success with them?
In the past I have cheated using diet pills which really worked well, but I am starting to wonder whether they really are safe and I figure a healthy diet and exercise plan would be better healthwise.

I go to Slimming World and personally prefer that to Weight Watchers as I have a big appetite and find with the Slimming World plan I can eat all the time. My kids are 2 and 4 and they eat the same as I do - there is a bit of time you have to put in to planning and preparing your meals but no more than if you were cooking an ordinary meal.

The classes generally last 30 mins or so depending on how many are in them and I have lost 17 pound so far.

Good Luck with whichever you choose x

  • I recommend weightwatchers. i have tried both diets but slimming world is harder to follow in my opinion. Meetings last about an hour depending how busy it is, I follow the points plan and so far i've lost 26lbs since March. I find it easy to follow and it fits in with a busy schedule. If you go along to your local meeting you'll get all the help and advice you need. Good luck whichever diet you choose!

These classes cost quite a bit so i invested in The Calorie Carb and Fat Bible instead. ( type it into Amazon and it should come up.) A very interesting read along with healthy eating ( we all know what we should and shouldnt have!) and increased exercise I have lost 2 stone so far and am very chuffed and feel great.
Good luck whatever you decide to do

Can you tell me a bit more about this please?
Do you still eat similar meals but within a calorie allowance?

    Hi
The book has some really sensible advice. ( I am nothing to do with it at all, was recommended it by a friend by the way!) If you look up your PRESENT weight and height it shows you what calories you need to MANTAIN that weight. If you then reduce your intake based on that you are bound to lose.
As i said, we all know what we should and shouldnt eat and I dont like diets as such. You have to change your lifestyle on a permanent basis for anything to work long term.
Of course you need willpower, but the book is so comprehensive that it is easy to see where the calories are in foods and where you can make changes.
I do think though that increased exercise as well is the key. My dog loves her long brisk walks daily and she now nags me to go if I dont feel in the mood!! - no escape there then!
All in all I am enjoying my new lifestyle, its not that hard to do, once you get going. Give it a try and let me know how you get on. Good luck!

May I point you in the direction of the Lose Weight thread on the I Wanna board. If you look at post No.1 there is a link to lots of recipes which have been posted by members of the board. Some are WW, some are Slimming World (which I prefer), but if you have a go at some of them it may help you make up your mind.

If you have a large appetite I would definitely recommend SW - there's loads of free food (including potatoes, pasta and rice) which you can eat every day if you wish. Our meetings last for about 30 mins, but more and more of the members come early each week and treat the whole experience as a social affair - it's great!

I honestly can't see where SW is hard to follow. The book you're given is excellent and tells you absolutely everything you need to know.

Of course you can lose weight alone, but the group 'therapy' experience can be very helpful when you begin to struggle. An element of friendly rivalry comes into play and can often be all it takes to get you over the rough times and heading steadily towards your target!

I'm with SW and my meals today have been from the red/original plan:-

Breakfast: bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes (all free food)
Mid-morning: Cup of coffee made with half milk/half water (milk allowance is 350mls skimmed each day).
Lunch: Large prawn salad with an ounce of grated cheese and a small crusty wholemeal bread roll.
Dinner: Roast lamb (lean), swede, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, 6oz new potatoes with skin on and a small Yorkshire pud (from syn allowance).
Later I shall have a mug of chocolate Options and perhaps a couple of Jaffa Cakes which will come from my daily syn allowance.

As you can see, this is ordinary food suitable for every member of the family regardless of their age. Since there is no deprivation it's very easy to stick to this healthy eating plan. I am never hungry and I've lost 4 stones since I started with Slimming World.

Steps off soap-box and exits, lol.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
