    Hi

I've lurked round the boards for a while but have just joined officially now.

I go to SW and have a great leader - it may be worth looking round at different groups - I have been to a few and find this leader better than the others

    I've also joined this forum

    http://slimmingworldsupport.editboard.com/index.htm

which is the best most comprehensive one I've found - and of course it's totally free! There's really excellent support on there and plenty of target members. There's always someone on to answer queries and there's loads of friendly and positive support

Come over and say hi to us!:D
Back to comping! July wins: Frylight August wins: Pixar DVD, Diesel Watch,£75 hamper brioche products September wins bath soak

Hi, I joined slimming world 5 weeks ago and lost 10lb in that time. I find it really easy and I'm a BIG eater!!! My group leader is lovely, very helpful and very friendly. I find that going to group to get weighed spurs me on a bit, sometimes I stay sometimes I don't but always find there is loads of info to hand recipes etc. Good luck with it.
Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it :D

I went to a slimming world club recently - have done the diet before and find it much easier than others. However I too didnt like the leader and as we spend an hour talking about food I went home starving.

Now doing it at home when I can.

I felt like that when I went to Weightwatchers because I didn't like the smug woman. I put on weight just to spite her!! I find that those clubs are great when you go regularly, I lost stones at Rosemary Conley club but it all went back plus more. I'm trying on my own yet again but it's much harder now I've reached the menopause and already have a thyroid problem.

Once again, the meeting was a BIG disappointment. Firstly, leader missed me out on the reading out of weight, and asking how things are going bit (maybe I lost so much I am invisible). So at the end I went up to her to check that she hadn't lost my record.

She said, no, and was surpised she missed me out. Then she asked me how it was going, and after the first sentence of my reply, she said: Excuse me, I just want to grab some of that chicken (from the tasters people had brought in), and shot off. I waited to see if she returned, but she just started to talk to another group (she initiated the conversation with them).

I am really starting to resent this woman getting my subscription. So much for the caring support!!

As a rule, there is more than one group in a local area. My group is one of 4 within a 5 mile radius. If you don't like the Consultant (and I must admit, she sounds dreadful) I would make a point of letting her know (by email if you like) why you won't be coming back, and go to another group.

I firmly believe you do better over the long term by being an active member of a group - group support is a proven advantage to weight loss.

However, if she replied to your email within 24 hours, I don't think that's unreasonable at all. It's quite possible she has a full-time job and a family as well - "always on hand" doesn't necessarily mean available 24/7.

Filigree it's years since the syn system was changed. Don't forget that packaged foods are always being changed and/or revamped and so the syn and calorie values are constantly changing. There is a new food directory published every year, but I think you could manage with a 12 months old one (only the very newest foodstuff wouldn't be in it).

If you want to follow a menu plan as a "taster" and there's a day you don't fancy, miss it out and do one of the other days twice. It really wouldn't matter - they are all healthy, nutritionally balanced and perfectly suited to all the family.

There is a Lose Weight thread over on the "I wanna" board. Lots of the posters are doing Slimming World (but lots are following other plans too). If you need a syn value or any other bit of help, there's always someone about who will be happy to help. There's also a recipe thread with lovely low-syn, low cal and low-fat meals to suit every would be skinny-ribs :D
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

I think it all boils down to 'you' as a person.

I joined SW last year. Went for the fisrt 3 weeks and lost half a stone. But I didn't like the group chat session. It was boring listening to the one's that were adamant that they'd only had 1 bag of crisps over the last week as a treat, yet they'd put on 3lbs.

There was one guy there that had gone for ages and had lost a hell of alot of weight. He still had half a stone to go, but to me he looked unhealthily thin already. So all that coupled with not being able to get the Little Britain sketch of Fat Fighters out of my head, I quit going.

Yes I put back on what I'd lost but I didn't see the point of me paying £4.25 as it was then just to jump on a set of scales. Not very MSE really.

So I've decided that I'll eat what I want when I want. But as healthily as possible of course and just do more excercise. My weight doesn't go up with what I eat (unless I really pig out) so therefore I need to take more excercise. Just invested in a mini trampoline. It's bloody hard work but good fun!

It's just a question of finding a bit of motivation and doing what works for you.;)

I went to SW a few years ago lost just over 5 stone in 10 months I found it really easy but had to stay to the classes yes they can be boring but its what works for you.

I also found having a slimming buddie really useful we would have little competitions to try to lose more weight then each other.

I now back at SW after having my baby need to lose about 2 stone I'm finding it alot harder this time round but do agree with what some people have said it does help staying to class, I also tried the website but couldn't get along with it I need the fear of putting weight on and everyone around me knowing about it (which will be this week after a KFC and chinese opps!)

    Good Luck!

You could always do slimming world and go to Rosemary Conley's to get weighed - you get an exercise class there for your money!

I hate slimming clubs. It is all the weighing and analysing what has been eaten or not eaten that gets to me. Have been to several through the years, in fact I was only 8 stone when I started slimming, went down the 6 stone! Several of the clubs turned me away saying I was within the weight range. I was, but my Mum was always harping on about my weight. Had problems ever since!!

I like the slimming world diet purely as you never need be hungry. However eating unlimited amounts of food to fill you up is never the same as eating unlimited amounts of chocolate.:D!

The last slimming world club I went to was awful. It was like Fat fighters off Little Britain! Funnily enough I am having a go today at going it alone.

    Good luck!

My sis and I joined slimming world in March 2003, by Christmas 2003, we'd both reached target, she lost over 2.5 stone and i'd lost over 2 stone. We both paid to join, then paid each week to weigh in and have class. I was surprised how easy it was to lose weight, coz i could eat more than when i was fat. (i was very anti diet as well)

going to class depends how determined you are to lose weight and how good the consultant is. When i first joined, the consultant was really nice and would bring tasters each week as well, so it was worth staying to discuss foods and how we felt, etc, etc. But the consultant retired and we had this other woman who wasn't as nice (she told people how much weight u put on!!) I kept going coz i was a target member and could go for free. But i've since stopped and have kept the majority of the weight off.

i think it really helped me having my sis doing slimming world, we used to talk about food all the time. If you don't have someone you can do that with, i'd probably join a class and keep going, coz it really does work. :D

Unfortunately the same leader runs all the classes in striking distance, and I don't have the time or inclination to travel a long way.

Yep, I know that ;) I abandoned SW in 2002 when they changed the system. I could theoretically have kept buying books, but there were other changes I wasn't party to and I didn't think I could follow the diet with only partial information. I made heavy use of their online support and was a bit narked to have it taken away, although I can see how it makes business sense for SW to charge for access.

I wouldn't dare offer those meals to my lot, they'd run away from home via KFC:rotfl: I can't eat citrus fruit, bananas or any meal high in meat protein so the breakfast suggestions all bombed. I'm a stroppy mare (you might have noticed!) and I hate the thought of having every meal dictated.
