  • xxvickyxx79 sent me the Shepherds pie recipe by pm so I hope she won't mind if I post it here for you as a lot of you have asked for it. In her pm she said that she was busy so hope she doesn't mind

Right heres the recipe for Luxury shepherds pie -

2lb/908g swede - I usually go for the biggest i can find lol as its free anyway.
    small handfull of fresh barley
6tbsp very low fat natural yoghurt
salt and freshly ground black pepper
    1red onion
    2 carrots
    2garlic cloves
2 sticks of celery - i miss this out
    fry light
120z/340 g extra lean minced lamb - i use extra lean minced beef
    400g can chopped tomatoes
    1tbsp chicked bovril
    1tsp artificial sweetner
    1 egg

    1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees c/ 400 degrees F Gas mark 6. Peel swede and cut into chunks. Boil until tender and then drain and mash until smooth. Chop the parsley and stir into the mash with the yoghurt and seasoning to taste.

    2. Meanwhile, peel and chop the onion and carrots, peel and crush the garlic, and chop the celery. Spray a pan with fry light and cook the onion, carrots, garlic, celery and mince for 4-5 mins. Add the tomatoes, bovril, sweetner and oregano. Stir to mix well and bring to the boil.

    3. Transfer mixture into one large or 4 individual pie dishes and top with the swede mixture. Beat the egg, brush with over the top and bake for 15-20 mins until lighjtly golden.

    Syns per serving
    * original free

Tescos have some value swedes in at 65p per 1kg. I tried some last week and mashed them with lots of pepper and Total 0% yoghurt. They didn't taste too much of swede and were a great substitute for mashed potato.

I ordered one on Ebay on the 26th but hasn't come yet, but I was keen to start already. I know that you are allowed 2 HE a 28g of cheese and milk

but how many HE b and until I get the books not know what they are. 2 slices of wholemeal bread from a 400g loaf, someone mentioned 2 alpen light bars count as 1 HE b, on a green day ,meat is HE b, isn't it? and on a red day potoatoes are HE b, is that right? I just need to wait for the books, just impatient..
and is 0% fat yoghurt free at any time of day? Since it is dairy, does it come under the HE a?

    Thanks for your replies..

You have all the right things written down there but there are plenty other things you can use as HEA's and B's too, it would be best to wait until the starter pack arrives so you know exactly what you're doing, I know how exciting it is when you first start, I couldn't wait to get my pack and begin, I sat reading it over and over for hours, lol, I still learn new stuff even a year on from starting it!

I would think that most 0 % Fat yoghurts are free, I know some very low fat ones are free too (it's just Cheese and Milk that are counted as a HEA's, if a yoghurt isn't free then it would have to be counted as syns), best thing to do if you're unsure about anything is to ask on here and I'm sure someone will be able to find an answer for you.

You could take the Cheese as your 2nd HEA, although you are supposed to weigh it, it probably won't hurt to have a little cheat every now and then when it's not possible to weigh things :D

Put on 0.5lb last night but knew I would (darn the Haggis!) I really need to get it sorted though as I'm getting lazy counting syns etc. My class leader is not very forthcoming with extra food diaries - has anyone made their own they'd like to share?

    Thanks

Thanks for all your help MissmassEffect, I even emailed seller and she said she sent it on Monday, Royal Mail eh?

I feel better if I write on here what I have eaten today, so I can make sense of it.

Breakfast: two scrambled eggs and a few slices of ham
lunch: stir fry chinese leaf, onion, pepper and lots of prawns with garlic and chili, o% fat yoghurt with some blueberries, a banana and maple syrup (2 syns)
tea: lean beef mince, onions, carrots with swede and celeriac topping, 28gr cheese (HE a)
    snack: 1 apple

Was all really delicious and I am quite full (I don't often say that on a diet) and to think I still have syns if I want them. I am thinking maybe an Alpen light chocolate/orange bar later (HE b)

    welcome findingmyownway
