PS what on earth is in veggie haggis??

Ooh I had some last night, I had it with mashed tatties and a sweet potato/carrot/parsnip mash :)

Vegetarian haggis >>>>> click here ;)

SW Consultant said a 1/3 of a pack was 9 syns

Macsween’s vegetarian haggis is a delicious, vegan friendly blend of kidney beans, lentils, nuts and locally sourced fresh vegetables. These ingredients are combined with oatmeal, onions, seasonings similar to the traditional haggis and is served in a man made casing. The result is a more subtle and nutty textured dish which vegetarians love and meat eaters are increasingly enjoying too.

I am dreading my weigh in on Monday.

Keep going, you are doing really well with the plan, Monday is stil 40 something hours away.

IMO I wouldn't weigh yourself at home as from past personal experience, it can become an obsession.

    :)
  • I heartily agree with Fluffy about the weighing at home thing. Just don't do it. You weigh different on different scales and at different times of day and it jsut isn't worth it. I can't even find my scales since we moved so it is great I don't have that option as I was a bit of a sneaky scale addict in the past. Just keep doing what you are doing until Monday and you might amaze yourself. I know I would go to class having weighed myself and thinking well Ihaven't lost and I had and other times was cocky as I thought I had and maintained. Are you wearing roughly the same clothes to class each week? We were told to try and always wear the same on weigh in day. And where abouts in your cycle are you? It isn't star week is it? Keep the faith.:grouphug:

Hostie, I share your excitement re the Alpen Lights, I was thrilled when I discovered I could have two. IT felt like Christmas. I even managed to have that and 5 scan brans yesterday as I felt I needed a boost of superspeed foods. I ate loads of veggies and fruit to try and make up for the haggis/whisky syns. I also discovered that I had picked up a bottle of ordinary tonic along with the slimlines. Unfortunately I had already drunk most of that bottle so my loss might be nonextistant this week - oops. I am going to try having fruit and a Shape yoghurt for brekkie for the next few days so that I can keep my HEBs back for more scan brans for lunch. I am going to need a lot of fruit though as I eat like a horse, I have some smoothie bags in the freezer so can use them. But my Alpen at coffeetime will help. I can always have an egg after I suppose.

Toast - I love toast but I rarely have it when on SW as I can't think what to have on it either. I love marmite but only on top of butter and as you say it feels like a waste of good syns as I like a generous topping:D . When I do, laughing cows are my spread of choice though.
  • Hi,
Can someone tell me where you can get this from? Neither the Asda nor the Tesco I shop at have this in stock. I can get beef bovril but not chicken. Is there anything Else I can use instead that is still free??

Try Sainsburys for the Chicken Bovril, it was the only Supermarket I could get mine from.

I am dreading my weigh in on Monday.

I have followed the plan again to the letter, had my A and B choices, lots of free food and 10syns per day.

I have alternated red and green days and made sure I varied my choices, I have even been drinking water - which is a first for me!!!

I weighed myself this morning and I am still the same as before.

I cannot believe it, what am I doing wrong? It worked brilliantly for me last time.

I have been on the plan since 02/01/08 and have only lost 1/2lb

It is not as if I only hve a few pounds to lose, I am just over 13 stone and at 5ft 3in I need to lose at least 3 stone.

    Why why why.

ps I am really pleased for everyone who is reporting fantastic losses :T :T , keep doing whatever it is you are doing.

    a very dishertened LM

    xx

I don't know the answer hun but I do know my scales at home are way out of sync from the class ones. Hopefully come Monday you'll be rewarded for your hard work, and boy are we gonna have a party for you!!!

  • I got my Chicken bovril in a large Tesco but the wee one near me doesn't have it and I have never seen it in an Asda. Wish they sold it in the bigger size though, I can only get the little chicken one which I use much more often than the beef one which I can get in a huge jar.

    Hi,

Just been looking through some of the posts. I am thinking of joining slimming world as have a bit of weight to lose after stopping smoking.

I have looked at their website and their sample weeks menu seems an awful lot of food to eat and prepare, how do you manage to do all that with a full time job and 3 hours travelling a day to get there and back home again.

Am I being too pessimistic in thinking I will never manage it?

    Thanks

  • The sample menu is just that Nessa, a sample of what you can have. A lot of members feel they eat more once they start than they ever did before but you don't have to eat as much if you feel you are full you stop. As for making it all yourself, you don't have to if you don't want to. There are lots of shortcuts you can use. Things like Bacherlors pasta'n'sauce and savoury rice are free on Green in most varieties so these can be a meal in themselves or a quick side dish to supplement soemthing else. A lot of the supermarket readymeals are either low syn or FREE and you can find these out from the site or they appear in the magazines too. IT is like life you can do as little or as much as you want cooking wise. For me brekkie is still usually cereal and milk but occasionally bacon and egg or today it was a LOT of fruit (been buying those smoothie mixes from the freezer in Tesco so I don't even have to cut them up) and a free Mullerlight on top. Lunches don't change much for me, could be some homemade soup or a sandwich, a baked potato and beans or a tub of Tesco rollmops and salad (rollmops are one of my addictions). Dinner is the only meal where I feel I am cooking properly and then it is just a case of being organised. Having a meal plan helps so you aren't standing in front of the fridge hungry wondering what you can have. Not too good at this bit myself. I would suggest making up some meals to freeze for the week or making what you can the night before so that you can come home and just finish it off quickly and eat and then you can start off tomorrow's dinner after you have eaten, I think I would find that easier than starting from scratch when tired AND hungry. But most of my meals aren't that difficult. Bacon and eggs are a great standby if you can't think of anything else to have. You will find loads of support and ideas on here and on the other forums which have links already on this thread. A great midweek standby is synfree chips and egg and beans, real comfort food and totally free on Green. I make more chips than I need so I can nibble at night if I get peckish. You can even have Smash as a free food if you are really stuck for time on a green day. Honestly once you get the hang of it there really is nothing to it. Most of the recipes are fairly quick to pull together anyway. My salmon and coriander mash recipe is a breeze, it takes about a minute to put the marinade together, I let it sit in that while I peel my spuds and boil them, 10-15 mins before they are ready I grill the salmon. Meanwhile I chop the bits for the mash. On the table in less than half an hour I promise and so tasty. The Creamy Prawn Curry is another no brainer. The rice is the longest thing to cook, the actual curry takes about ten minutes as you can use lazy garlic and ginger (check it isn't in oil for syns) and then it is just curry powder and a tin of tomatoes enough prawns for a healthy extra (I find the Asda king prawns packs are just the right size for this so no measuring) and a tub of very low fat yoghurt at the end the only other ingredient is fresh coriander and I don't suppose it would be the end of the world if you left that out. Because so many foods are free foods you will find that you have to measure very little and even things like syns and Healthy Extras that are measured you can often choose things that are grab and go eg Ryvitas or cereal bars or laughing cow triangles where you just need to know how many you have had rather than weighing them out. I would say it is the easiest "diet" from that regard as you do have to bother weighing so little. I know a friend of mine even got round the weighing of her cereal in the morning by getting a plastic glass (like you get beer in at a festival) and weighing out her cereal in that, marking the volume and then she just filled it to the line every morning as she was in a rush. Again with milk allowances, keep a bottle/jug and pour in just your allowance and so long as you have used it all up by the end of the day that is your Healthy Extra A choice. I would say the best thing to do is get hold of the latest magazine and you will see what I mean about how flexible the plan is. So long as you fill your larder with loads of free ingredients/products you shouldn't have a problem. Give us an idea of what you would normally eat/cook or what you didn't fancy in the sample menu and we can all have a go at giving you suggestions. Plus we might get some more recipes posted and I love getting new recipes to try.

    Fantastic Poodlehorse

Thank you soooooooooo much. I can see, much to pessimistic.

Thing is I love cooking, but mid week it is a bit of a bind when you don't feel like it but you have given me some great suggestions.

    Thank you.

I think I may even join slimming world this week, it is half price registration at the moment as well, so what could be better :T

I will stay with this thread and if you don't mind will let you know how I get on.

    Thanks again
