  • Some of them are definitely free and I was just looking at a list yesterday I think on the Ivillage site but I can't seem to find it now. Chow mein one is free and the spicy one that I used to live on. The creamy cheese one isn't and I think might be about 2, can't remember the rest soz

  • In the slimming world support thread we have just had this very discussion. A few of us on there don't like these things and like you want from scratch meals with no chemicals etc. You most certainly CAN avoid them but you might find that you will use your syns per day up quickly if you use sugar instead of AS. I have invested in some xylitol as it is a natural alternative to sugar (made from birch trees) and is 60% of the calories. It doesn't have the horrid AS aftertaste either. I find I avoid AS and other rubbish as much as I can but I do indulge occasionally if I am desperate for a gin and tonic for instance I have a slimline tonic instead. I could have the gin but that is 2syns per measure so I don't bother. But I do worry about AS and so should really syn the fullsugar tonic instead. We basically agreed that we were torn a bit by the need to avoid AS and the lure of no syns for a sweet hit. If you were adamant you didn't want to use them then you could survive but you might be frustrated by a lot of the sweeter recipes. However since there are a few of us why don't you join us on the support thread and we can see if we can't come up with some solutions together. Because if I can avoid them altogether without feeling deprived then I will be one happy poodle.
  • I rejoined SW today. I last did it about a year ago. I have found it so helpful in the past, I'm hoping it will help me lose the *toomanytosay* weight I need to!

Miss phish - thank you for the gorgeous looking carrot and coriander and barley soup recipe. With this forum, I sometimes have the 'thanks' button in posts, and sometimes don't. Today I don't, so can't thank you that way!

Also, VECON. I have never, ever seen this in a shop. Where do you get it from? Is it with the oxo, stock cubes stuff?
  • Xylitol - I've heard of it before but never tried it. Thinking of ordering some too. How many syns does it have? I'm guessing it's not free as it's got more calories than !!! do. Any idea? I can't find it in the online syns guide.

    Room for another person? ;)

I have 3.5 st to lose and am breastfeeding my 2 boys. Breastfeeding triggers MASSIVE sugar cravings in me and lots of hunger!
I hope I will get on with SW - I always cook from scratch and avoid processed foods and sweetners like the plague.
Monday night is my first meeting. I'll see how it goes. I once went to a WW meeting and the leader was atrocious. I also hate groups so I'm not sure it'll be for me but I'll give it a shot even though it'll mean being away from my precious 8 week old for an hour or so. I feel a lump in my throat just thinking about it (I'm a softie).

    Hi npsmama

Welcome to the support thread and congratulations on the babies! :)

Found this info on the sw website for you....

Once your baby is 6 weeks old and you've had your post-natal check-up, you are welcome to return to your group, but we ask you to check first with your midwife or doctor. Your body needs extra energy and calcium while you are breastfeeding and we recommend you increase your Healthy Extra choices. Your Consultant will be able to show you the recommendations and booklet in your group.

I hope you find SW more friendly and welcoming than other slimming groups, good luck

Can anyone suggest a really quick family evening meal I can use to replace my Wednesday pizza meal where we have to cook, eat and be out of the house in little over 30 mins!!!! I know - I hate wednesday!

Hello, I suggest that next week you make extra on Tuesday when you are cooking or if you are organised, you multitask and make two meals at the same time. You can then put Wednesday's meal on the plates and put them in the fridge so that when you get home on Wed you just have to heat them. There was a nice pork roast dinner recipe in the slimming world magazine which you could do this with (even if you cooked the meat the day before you would then just need to cook the veg and heat the meat).
Veggie lasagne made the day before would also work like this. Let me know if you need either of the recipes as I have them both and I think they are both free on green day (would have to check).

Alternatively something lunchy such as a baked potato with beans would be quick.
