i've been on it since sept and i still find it confusing lol i have found if i use the online food diary it helps me more than writing it down. it basically tells me whats an A an B choice which is great!
was having a red day today but its kinda gone pear shaped and colour lol made a huge roast dinner and got a bit over zealous with the stuffing. oh well another day tomorrow!
It only seems kinky the first time.. :A

ok had a quick scan through, and would like to comment on some recurring themes..

Can you really eat all that and lose weight??

YES!!! They wouldn't recommend it otherwise, people wouldn't continue with SW, and they would get a bad name LOL

Seriously, if you go to the SW website and read the pyschology of how food optimising works, you'll understand why you can eat lots and still lose weight. It's all about how full things make you feel. Pasta is free on green for instance as you couldn't realistically eat more than your normal plateful without bursting anyway!

I do understand all the above, but when it comes to Muller lights being free (I could eat five or six in a day if I am in an eating mood) I lose the understanding. Each pot has about 150 calories, but I don't find them particularly filling if you get my drift??

This is the mystery of slimming world to me. I realise very few people would eat eight eggs a day, or three pounds of pasta or whatever - it really is the free yoghurt thing that makes me wonder????

If you get plain yoghurts and add your own fruit they become much more filling than a Mullerlight (I don't go near them personally as they taste funny to me), I used to eat Total Greek 0 % Fat yoghurt which is free on SW and add my own fruit, it is lovely and creamy and feels almost naughty to eat.

I've been making my own EasiYo greek yoghurts and adding my own fruit to them for a few months now, they do have a little syn in them but are well worth it to me as you get the freshness and convenience of being able to make them whenever you like, it tastes great too.

  • Interesting - What are the syns in the yogurt MME? And how long does it take to make AND how much does it roughly work out at price wise??

Sorry, a barage of questions...! ;o)
    Piggypoints - 207+£10 * Quidco - £95 * Tesco - 1095 * Sainsbugs - 4237
    :DI SHALL be debt free!!!!!:D
  • Having done Atkins before and lost weight and put it back on again etc. I am finding SW too good to be true!!! Yesterday I had a green day had one piece of w/meal toast (HE) with Lurpak light (3 syns). Lunch jacket potato with b/beans and fried egg (free) dinner of spaghetti with quorn mince cooked with garlic, toms, herbs (free). I was stuffed. So if I got the above right I didn't use much on HE or syns. Forgot to have my allowance of skimmed milk.

I really could do with some breakfast ideas as I am used to having either w/meal toast and it's got to be with butter can't stand those low fat spreads or cereal which at 28g portion with syns isn't that good. I need something quick. Am going to have a trawl of the other sites today.

I am hoping to get a branded food shop at Tescos on Ebay but the world and his wife are after SW at the moment.

So I may need to ask a few more questions and post a few more of my meals until I get the confidence that I am doing this right.

Could anyone tell me if Irish co diet yoghurts are free or have syns please? I may do as MME above and use Total 0% fat with fresh fruit.

    Keep up the good work.

The EasiYo plain Greek one is 1.5 syns for 100g which is about the serving size I have, I use a variety of berries to mix in it as I find they taste gorgeous with it and it helps me if I have a sweet craving to have this instead, I also use Splenda to sweeten it a bit as it can be a bit sharp otherwise.

It only takes a couple of minutes to make, you have to buy an EasiYo yoghurt maker, this has two main parts to it, a container and a vat that you put the container in (I got mine from Julian Graves) and a yoghurt mix (also from JG) you fill the plastic mixing container half full of cold water, add the contents of the EasiYo packet, put lid on, shake thoroughly, take lid off, top up mixing container with cold water and shake again. The vat that you put the plastic container in (it is almost like a big flask) you fill with boiling water to the line it says and then pop the plastic container in there, screw the lid on and leave for approx 6-8 hours to develop, you can leave it in longer, it depends on how sharp you like your yoghurt, I leave mine about 7 hours as I don't like my yoghurt too sharp.

Once it's done you pop it in the fridge and it takes a few hours to cool down in the container.

I paid about £17 for my yoghurt maker but they have recently been on sale in loads of Julian Graves stores for half price, the yoghurt mixes did cost £2.19 each which makes a litre of yoghurt (which works out about 22p for a 100g portion), these were also half price in JG last week, so I now have a giant bag filled with yoghurt mixes in the kitchen which will last me about 6 months, lol

The Slimmers and Low Fat yoghurts that EasiYo do are Free on Slimming World but I haven't tried those ones as I like the thicker consistency of Greek yoghurt.

  • I agree with the 0% Greek feeling sinful. It is so thick and creamy and those girls at Eat Yourself Thin use it all the time. I like to use 1 syn and have a wee bit of honey drizzled on it and I find it so filling. I try and get the spoon of honey to drizzle in such a way that it covers the entire surface (I think I have obsessive tendencies).
For a filling brekkie you can't beat porridge (HEB) and you can make with all water. I like to make mine with HEA of milk and a bit of water though as it does make it extra creamy. I add chopped fruit at the end and again I like to use a syn for some honey (same drizzling fixation) and a bit of cinnamon seems to help it along too.
On a red day of course there is nothing like loads of grilled bacon, fried eggs in frylite, grilled tomatoes and synfree sausages. I often make some mushrooms using a bit of milk from my HEA too. Yesterday I just had loads of bacon in some wholemeal bread (HEB) and synned some tomato ketchup. It was soooo nice. We had steak for dinner and I roasted off some mediterranean veg and had loads of that with an equally generous portion of brocolli, DH asked for synfree chips but I had had all my HEBs and synned some wine so Ihad to go without but I didn't mind. Slurp.
You mention the syns in cereals, I never syn my cereal but always use my HEs for it. I know it gets two out of the way rather quickly but it sets me up for the day. Today I had some muesli and milk and then had a boiled egg. I haven't decided if today is red or green but WI is tonight. I am a bit worried I haven't lost as there have been a couple of dodgy days in the week. I have also stopped writing down my eats so she won't be happy. I still have this cold though and DS was in with us from 3.30am due to his really bad cough but he likes to sleep horizontally so I barely slept after than and DH got a foot in the face!! I was lucky I got 6 inches of bed to "sleep" on for the rest of the night. Poor thing was starting to panic though as it is sounding more like croup now.

    Hi all,

I just joined a SW group last week. I have done it before using the online membership option (body optimise i think it's called), and I did have some success so I know it can work. I gave up due to the lack of support (they don't have forums online which I think is a shame).

Anyway, I've stuck to it religiously this week, but I don't seem to have lost any weight (official weigh in is on Weds) and actually feel really bloated. When I made my mind up to join I spent the four days before my first class stuffing my face with pies, chocolate and biscuits (not a good idea!), and I guess it's caught up with me! I'm going to persevere though and see what happens.

One of the difficulties I have is that i'm not used to cooking totally from scratch. I love curry, and would usually make a beef curry with Pataks madras paste. I like to have lots of rice too, so I attempted a SW friendly veg curry for a green day. I used a variety of veg, tinned tomatoes, garlic and curry powder, and it was just really tasteless.

So if anyone has a really tasty and syn free (or low syn) veg curry recipe please post it! I will feel really deprived if I can't get my curry fix on a Saturday night :D

I don´t have a curry recipe but I made a soup yesterday and it ended up turning out like Korma lol !! Might be onto something here! Soup recipe is 2 sweet potatoes (chop and boil with a stock cube, whirred with a blender and then add a spoonful of curry powder). This wan´t the tastiest but it did really fill me up (three bowls I think so no wonder!) and apparently sweet potatos are one of the best veg for slimming as they have some slow release thing when it comes to blood sugar. More than that I can´t tell you and this certainly isn´t the tasty recipe you are looking for (I too love Pataks curry paste and have been wondering how to replace it). Hopefully someone else will have a good idea. Putting yoghurt in the curry might help. I used to make a mean curry using a tiny bit of tamarind paste (it really makes a delicious curry) but not sure if that would add syns. ..

Can anyone tell me the web address for the online syn calculator?

    7.10.14 11 st 9 lb

    27.05.15 11 st 5.6 lb
