I have a Tesco (medium sized) and Sainsbury nearby. A large Asda further away and a Tesco Extra and Morrisons on opposite sides of town.I have a car so could get to any.

  • I made a spag bol last night with Quorn mince and cheated and used the jar mix I usually use. It was disgusting, it tasted of plastic, was it the Quorn mince ?

I have tried the chunks and it passed for chicken, but this mince was awful :o Anyone else found this ?
Quorn tastes better if cooked and left for a while. When i make spag bol with it, I fry it up with fry light, onion, and garlic. I add a generous helping of worcestershire sauce, and fry gently until looking cooked. Add herbs, courgettes, peppers and onions- bulks out to make two meals. tinned toms and veg stock cube as well as a couple of bay leaves. When beginning to simmer taste and add more herbs/ worcester sauce if necessary. By now you will have added lots of flavour to it and when cooked you can serve it straight away or leave until next day.I prefer to leave it as the taste really kicks in the day after but i have done both.sometimes i add kidney beans and chilli to the mix for a chilli con carne version on baked potato. its all free on green and red day if baked potato a healthy extra. Kidney beans are free on green and 1.5 syns for tinned (28g) I use about 50g -so 3 syns on a red day.

Morrisons eat smart sausages are free on red. Some people like them others dont its up to you. You could make your own sausages, by rolling up minced pork, grated oinion, herbs and egg ( all free on red) and shape and grill slowly till cooked.A bit like making your own burger and healthier because you know what's going in them. I have also done this with minced beef ( lean for both ) and made burgers. You can make brill quarterpounders at a fraction of the price.
