    Re: Sofa Sofa, Manhattan Range

To clarify: The Normal price for a 3/Str Sofa is £349, but if you order online there is a further £50 discount if you order the Cream colour.
As for the 2/Str Sofa, was £299 order online = £249

    FOR GREENSTUFF:

The factory is now on holiday until Monday 9th August, will sort this out for you on their return.

I recently bought a 3 seater and 1 chair from DFS and am very pleased with it(Venice range) ;D
Paid cash and got upholstery cover protection as well.
spent just over a grand :)
Not sure if the extra cover was worth it though ???
hoping it lasts me a good few years :)
My sister in law spent over 3 grand on a Lilac :P 3 and 2 seater leather suite from SCS and it looks awful.
Shes only had it about 2 yrs and its got cracks and the stitching is coming apart. :o
Seeing what hers looks like has put me off getting leather
  • :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

The cracks are because either the leather has 'dryed' up and not been treated or something has been applied to it which shouldn't have been, or it's an inferior leather.

    Take your pick.

As for stitching coming undone, leather is usually sewn on twin needle machines and is dificult for it to become undone. Probably inferior thread, or just bad machining.

If the furniture is less than 2 years old it should be covered by the manufacturer's guarantee.

    Either way, GOOD LUCK!

    Thanks!
I think shes been given a suite with inferior leather as when i was looking around with my OH at Leather suites we saw all the different grades they come in and my sister in laws is probably only a grade 10.
She paid over 3000 for it which when you look at the state of it was money down the drain.
There i was praising DFS quality and now my settee has developed a fault :'(
My settee has 4 cushions that are zipped on across the back of the settee.
Over the last month or so 1 of the middle cushions seemed to start sagging it wasn't too bad and i kept on puffing it up.
anyway yesterday it has sagged even more and when i had a look the thread on the cushion zip had lost its end and now we cannot attach the cushion to the settee.
I have rang DFS and they are sending somene out next Friday.
I have now unzipped all the cushions from the settee and chair in case anymore of them break.
My question is will this be seen as "fair wear and tear '?
I'm hoping they will just replace the cushion cover or repair the zip on it.
I have had the suite since May and am now thinking it wasn't such a good buy :-/
  • For Jummy;

With regard to graded leather whether it be grade 5,10,15 etc this is a techique used by manufacturers to get more leather from a hide by slicing it like a loaf of bread. The thinness by which it is sliced determines what grade they call it and means they can get several thin hides from a full hide. It is effect an inferior leather.

Proper leather furniture which we make our goods from uses only 'full hide' leather which is only tanned and dyed and not sliced up to con the public!!!!!!!!!!

As to the problems with your furniture, you have statutory rights. You must have a guarantee, do not be fobbed off with a repair and insist on a new product or your money back. 'The goods are unfit for the purpose they were bought'

It is not 'fair wear and tear' as you hardly had the furniture that long.

The problems you are experiencing with your furniture should not happen so quickly after you took delivery.

If it is not replaced/refunded go to your local Trading Standards and let them take up your case.

    Good Luck

I am VERY surprised you folks have had trouble from DFS. I bought 2 leather settees from them just over 2 years ago and have had no problem at all!

I think some of you moneysavers need to get a little wiser with your credit deals. I simply told them what finance deal I wanted, and it works fine. When they offer you 0% interest over four years, DON'T take it, the payments are usually deferred for this period and then of course, once that free interest period has expired, you have to start paying interest, like with anything.

Best thing to do, if you can afford it, is pay it off as quick as possible. My two settees cost me a little over £1500 which I thought was great, delivery was spot on and I just asked to defer payment for six months, and then pay the lot off over 2 years, simple and quick and no hassle.!

We did initially have a slight problem with one of the arms coming a bit loose, but we rang them up and they dispatched a repair man the exact same day, came round, dismantled the suite and put it all back together again in a proper fashion, and we have had no bother since...unless you count my cats scratching at it, but hey ho! 8) ::)

We bought a sofa from DFS (a colleague's son says it stands for Dodgy Furniture Store) and depite misgivings, have been pleased with it. They wouldn't give a discount for cash as we realised finance charges had been built into the price so we paid interest free for the maximum term.
We used Kingdom of Leather for another purchase and were happy with them too. Some folk get all the luck! They all slag each other off re quality/graded leather.
We'll add sofasofa to our list next time - maybe they are the only one not using graded leather?
Incidentally, Sofaking has not been mentioned once in this entire thread. I love their slogan - how about their quality? ;D

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

We people in the furniture trade refer to DFS as 'Dog's first Sofa'
