Have had the zip replaced on the cushion and it is fine.
We are still not going to zip the cushions onto the settee in case anymore of the zips break. :)

We bought a suite from DFS ( Dodgy F*****G Sofas) at a cost of £2500 quite a few years ago. First the sofa broke in the middle & when we turned it upside down we found that there was only on piece of wood 2" x 1" to support the weight of the front of the sofa between the two feet ( 3 seater). They took it away to repair & replaced it for 2 weeks with an awful sofa. When it was returned the repair consisted of another strip of 2" x 1" screwed behind the break. After this the fabric faded to an unrecognisable colour & the Scotchguard treatment was useless. We complined till we were blue in the face & got no where. So eventually we gave up & scrapped the sofa. We have since bought one from Saxon Leather & couldn't be more pleased with the sofa or service.
My Mum has had dealing with SCS (Sofa Cr***y Sofas) & had problems with them too
Love to save & love a bargain

    Hi

I was interested to read all the threads about DFS.
I've had nothing but stress since ordering my sofa last year.
The stitching came undone at the back of the two-seater so I contacted them ASAP.
They sent an upholsterer around to 'inspect' it and a couple of weeks later he 'mended' it.
    This is my dilemma.
My first payment starts next month, but the stitching has started to unravel again.
Do I: Contact the finance company and tell them of my plight, highlighting I won't pay a penny until the sofa is replaced (it cannot be rectified).
Or contact my local Trading Standards.
Or contact the head office threatening to contact my local press and scandalise them?
Please help, I'm a lone parent and money is something everyone has except me!!

    Thanks

PS I'm a journalist on the 'local paper'!!
  • Re; the above post.

First of all contact the finance company and tell them you are instructing your Bank to cancel the Direct Debit as the goods are 'inferior'. Also put this in writing to them.

Secondly, send a copy of this to DFS and tell them you want the furniture collected 'as it is not suitable for the purpose it was`purchased'

Thirdly, sit back and wait for the action!!!!!!!!!

  • For bbruce.

    You are correct!

Sofa Sofa only use 'full hide leather'

They would never consider using 'graded leather'

DFS are currently advertising in the press and T.V. that if you order now, delivery if guaranteed pre-Christmas.

    What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go and try it.

  • Twelve monthes ago hubby and I bought a suite from DFS off the shop floor,  a bargain at £900 for 3 seater 2 seater sofa bed and chair. We paid an additional £300 or there abouts for their fabric protection and the suite arrived the following week.

When it arrived I was not happy ,yes it was alittle marked in their show room but it was filthy.I phoned the to complain but was told that thats how it was in the showroom, I dissagreed .I had made a point of having a
good look over for that very reason.

I then began looking over it very carefully and found loads of dust and dirt down the sides as well as a sweet .Having found this I began to suspect that it hadnt had the fabric protection done.Surely they would have made sure it was clean before they did it.

Again I phoned them and was told that they use an odour free fabric protection. I asked to speak to the manager who was busy.

Hubby and I went up there with one of the cushions which had a hole in iit. The manager had already been told of my phone calls and was abrupt from the start. He eventually agreed to let us choose another  suite.

When he spoke to us again later that day he admitted that" his staff had learnt a big lesson from this" and so had he!!

I still to this day do not believe that the suite had been treated ,needless to say we refused to have the new one treated.the salesman was not happy with us.
  • Any furniture that has been treated correctly should carry a certificate confirming this fact.
Should you ever have to make a claim you have to quote the certificate number.
Go back to to DFS and ask for proof that this furniture has been treated and could you have the certificate to prove this in case you have to make a claim.
It is usual that no furniture on display is treated!
I would think you have been told porkies!

If you are not satisfied 'reject the furniture as unsuitable for the purpose it was bought'

    This should help your case.
