DFS are starting a SALE this weekend.

Sales in the middle of December!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They must be desperate. Have these SALE items been at a higher price for 28 days as required by law?

    I doubt very much.

    Thank you ,your a star ;) ;D ;D
  • Lol, OK R Sole, you win!

I really am not that bothered about the exact shade, I just want a comfy sofa as this DFS one is a mess, for me at the moment I just want a cheap cream sofa, I don't have time to go round the shops, (might cut into my internet time)  :P

Good luck with DFS, keep us posted.

I know this isn't exactly time saving, but the last thing I would do is buy a sofa off the internet. I would take a look in Loot online https://www.loot.com , it's suprising what people sell there, even new stuff much cheaper than shops (the old 'unwanted present' ploy!)
I really hate paying for anything that 1, I can't touch and 2, I have to wait in for to be delivered. I do drive a van though! I am sure that people who bought from Courts might be inclined to agree! Even Ikea might be a better bet. This one is always entertaining for us van drivers. Sitting in the car park and watching somebody try to wedge a 3-seat sofa into a golf is priceless.....
"Excuse me, this expires today, will you be reducing it?"
  • I heard that most of their sofas were made in China ! Is Chineese leather among the best in the world? i dont think so, but the cost of the raw material & the labour costs would be cheap there, i guess.

So forget all the double discount, extra discount & marketing spiel, just look at the bottom line and remember you get what you pay for,

So if the "3k" sofa is being sold at 500 pounds, just compare the quality with another retailer's sofa being sold for 500 pounds as well. If you find that you have to pay a little extra to find better quality that will last longer then thats a buying decision you will have to make.

Remember the value of money is measure only in time. So in the case of 500 pound sofa that lasts for 2 years or a 750 pound sofa that lasts 4 years it's obvious which makes the better buy.
Remember - minimum wage is a company's way of telling you that if they could legally pay you less, they would.
  • I have had a leather suite for 3 years now and it still looks OK. But i got diddled on the insurance and did not relise this until a couple of months later, actually cost me £250.00 on top of the suite but when the sales guy is sitting in front of you saying its only £57 a month its tempting but i learnt my lesson painfully.
  • I was looking to get a dfs sofa but now i am not too sure about them.
Now i am looking at the natuzzi sofas. Has anyone bought from them and know what they are like. Any money saving tips regarding buying these natuzzi sofas?

    Thanks
  • I bought a sofa and 2 chairs about 8 years ago from DFS - cost about £3500

Best thing I ever bought. Couldn't have had better service - they even obtained some
extra material for us so we could match up our telephone table seat.

The furniture is still going strong and is solidly built, worth every penny

Sounds like they have gone down the nick since we made our purchase.

Anyone who believes they are getting furniture at half price needs their head looking into.

    Hi

As a furniture salesperson for several years I was surprised to read the first post and find that there are still people out there that believe you will get furniture worth £2500 for half price.
Of course it's all marketing to get you in the store. There isn't a large furniture retailer who doesn't do it.
And as for the 0% finance - there is no such thing in this business. The retailer has to pay the interest on the loan so it is accounted for in the sale price. As for payment protection - it is optional and don't be told otherwise.

As a conclusion the best advise I can give is forget the huge 'saving' on offer - is the furniture worth the price being asked to you personally. If it is then you have a bargain - if it's not then buy elsewhere.

    See ya

I have to agree, as a buyer for an independent Company, i often get to see the prices that these are offered to us for sale.
When stores like Harveys, DFS and the other big sheds offer their half price sale + 10% off it is all a rather large con. All they have done is put the price up in one of their stores for 28 days to make the price reduction legally valid.
If you read the small print it quite offen states that the product on sales has been at the higher price for at least 28 days.
My advise is look for a sofa that you like and then ask the question to your self is it worth that amount to you.
Also the best retailer i have found on my travels is independant coop societies, They tend to offer the best value for money.

I'm with you on that one, Glandale!

I bought 2 black leather rocker/recliners from DFS 6 years ago and they are easily the best furniture I have ever bought.

They are still in great nick, fantastic quality (I was told they were manufactured in America - they were an exact match to the chairs that Joey and Chandler had in "Friends").

The price when I placed my order was £800 each, but the delivery was 4 months from the USA. I went into another store about a month later and saw them on sale at £600 each. I went back and without any quibbling they reduced the price of my order saving £400, saying that as they hadn't been delivered yet I was entitled to the new price!

Maybe DFS had a buyout in the meantime by someone who doesn't consider customer service to be worthwhile. Shame, as back then I would have recommended them without hesitation.
