CoG last visit to
London I was beyond thrilled to accidentally walk past the Rossetti house where the PRB was formed (did an OU foundation course and was thoroughly dipped in Victoriana good and bad by it) and our hotel was on that road (the name of which now escapes me but it will comeback) so I go to that exhibition with some knowledge. Both my Grandfathers were from the East End and both ended up in different towns in Lancashire so while i claim Lancastrian heritage i’m v. proud of my London links, too

Hope you feel better soon ASB.
Minimal flying to report today as I had to go to work earlier than usual for a Zoom with last week's tricky student. It went fairly well although will still be hard to summarise. Today's full assessment student was a delightful young man; easy to diagnose and interesting to talk to. I must resist the temptation to write his up first as it will be relatively easy.
Very slow on the way home as the leaking/burst pipe I noticed on the way to work had continued - this morning it was across one lane of a dual carriageway and partially frozen, with men digging holes near it; this evening it had spread across both sides of the dual carriageway and one side was beginning to freeze while the other was about 6" deep and forming tidal waves when anyone drove through it. The tailback was about a mile.
Actually I did do some washing up this morning and put a few things away.
Got home, cooked dinner as Mr N was busy (usually he cooks on my work day) and did some drum practice.
As Mr N will be away for 3 weeks from next Wed, I'm planning a big 'spring clean'........not that much of it is his mess; as I've said before, he is way more domesticated than me so probably it will get severely slobby then I will blitz 2 days before he gets home. Although with the current level of rodent activity in the loft and cavity walls, I may well have been devoured by rats by the time he gets back.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.8 -
Good evening 😁
Not much flying done today 😕 2 loads of washing done, dried & FUPA.
SW attended. Surprisingly I lost 1/2 lb!! Result! Probably a bit jammy tbh 😂
Spoke to DD1 about her visit in Feb with DGS. She and DD2 are taking my mum out for afternoon tea & I will be on babysitting duties. They live 3 hrs away (not far from Valli, I believe), so I don't get the chance very often. I will be working, but 1 extra child won't make any difference 😂 It will only take me to 3 👍
No work tomorrow as I have a funeral to attend with my mum. It is not until 3pm, so a lay in for me 👍 Getting my nails done at 11am. I should probably do some flying in the morning. I have a big squash from the allotment that needs souping....that might help with the weight loss too.
asb I hope you are feeling better

Morning all
Still feeling dodgy but I have some TOIL to take today so I’m getting out and about. Visiting the food waste pantry and dropping 10 packs of sausages off that I have sold 😊😊
Just been out for coal -12😳😳🥶🥶🥶🥶 stay safe ladies xx
I am missing @ionafan are you okay love? xx
Cheyne Walk - isn’t that the name of the street with the house of horrors from the absolutely brilliant The Family Upstairs book? I’m sure it is. @Fayolle @Jazee will help me out here!CoG you are probably right, I would pine for the countryside and the smell of woodsmoke and sheep fleece very quickly. But I just adore so much about London and it’s rich history. Those beautiful four story townhouses, which I guess are mostly now flats, which would have had staff and fires in every room. Lamplighters, oyster sellers, men wearing caps / hats …. Yes I am romanticising and ignoring things like the Plague, the rats etc but I find it all fascinating. I love historical fiction and it transports me back to a different time. Fingersmith is, IMHO, one of the best books ever written and I would thoroughly recommend it to everyone.
Right, head out of the clouds and back to reality! Fire is roaring thankfully and I have a hormonal DD to wake up. Have fab days all xx11 -
Morning xx
I'm up. Not sure I'm awake but heyho. I've made my bed, got dressed, packed my lunch, taken me meds, eaten breakfast, completed Wordle, completed Connections, caught up with the thread and I'm enjoying my brew.
I went to bed at 9. Shattered again. But then was wide awake for hours from midnight, and had weird dreams when I did go back to sleep. I've been riding on a tractor most of the night....trying to get home to go to bed because I was tired! Consequently I've woken up tired. And possibly grumpy...but there's no one here to test myself on. 🙃
More changes at work. Turns out supervisor has been telling upstairs that we're still mega busy. So when I explained to them that my bored is bored and can I have more work please they were surprised and supervisor wasn't best pleased. 🤷♀️🙊. Anyhoo, from next week I'll be Tuesdays and Wednesdays learning a different service, and Thursdays and Fridays still on my old job. Apparently supervisor told upstairs No. But as upstairs had already okayed it with me she was told it's happening. Oh, the joy of going to work. I'm looking forward to using my brain again and having something to do, and if I've inadvertently walked into a trap devised by upstairs (Trust issues? Me?) So be it. I just want to work when I'm at work, does that make me odd?
Better get ready. Feargal will need deicing before I can go anywhere. The birds will be fed, and recycling will be deposited in appropriate bins.
Keep warm my lovelies

Morning all.
Glad you're feeling a bit better today ASB. Have looked up the artist whose work you visited CoG, looks lovely, as is the exhibition you spoke of Valli. I too can relate to London trips. We lived in Hertfordshire when I was between the ages of 8 and 13. All school trips were into London. Some lovely memories. Also my sister and her husband spent many years as publicans in London, we used to go and stay and take our children.
ASB, and anyone else interested in London history, there is an interesting podcast on sounds, "Bad Women" the real stories of the lives of the victims of Jack the ripper.
Over night snow has been delivered here! OH is next door, pulling the car and trailer with a tractor! Also DGD2 has arrived, welcome to the world Emily.
Most of yesterday was spent trying to fix the sewing machine. It is an antique, 1920 singer treadle. Several dozen videos, many cotton buds, and much oil later, it is running. Not quite right yet but it'll do for now. Today I'll patch the jacket. Also need to see up the jumper I've just finished for DGS2. I can take it with me when we go up to meet Emily, who has several carrier bags of knitting already.
Hugs to all, keep warm, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.8 -
