Thank you. I am generally better occupied with doing stuff, and the forums are a good distraction because the inner voice stops. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Facts.
Married. Adult children, our two still live with us. One has just finished university, the other is still studying. Older two, steps. Mortgages and lives of their own.
No will. We talked about wills and power of attorney recently (I blame all the swedish death cleaning posts) and had had a conversation about the future if either of us was absent.
The house. Mortgage free, and jointly owned so as I understand it it transfers to me, not part of the estate. We had planned to sell and move to a big rundown house in the country with lots of land but this place still needs lots of work. Mr Redo did all of the renovations. My role was to wash buckets and hold things, and provide a beer, make admiring noises and laugh as appropriate.
Pensions. He had two DB schemes and took early retirement in 21. Lump sums helped us to clear the mortgage. He also had two lump sum pots. I believe that these also do not form part of the estate and will come to me.
Life insurance, was in joint names and had 11 months to run. Private policy I took out when the boys were babies, the idea was it gave the survivor a few years when they didn't have to work in case full time childcare was needed. Not sure if it is in trust and therefore not part of the estate for IHT/intestate stuff.
Income. His DB pensions stop with him, although I believe I will eventually get half of his annual entitlement. I was on an agreed year off after taking VR last year. So no household income now. I don't think I will be eligible for anything due to the savings but I amy be wrong.
Savings. We had quite a bit left but I was HR tax payer until recently so we shifted a lot into his name, and it was easier to take our day to day living expenses (paying myself a wage out of our savings essentially) from mine. No joint accounts. His will be frozen presumably till probate is sorted. Not enough to trigger IHT or division.
Stuff. He was a hoarder and serial hobbyist so a lot of stuff to deal with.
Vehicles. Five vehicles in his name all of which are now technically not taxed, or insured. Only one of which I am licensed to drive even if tax and insurance was valid. I own my own car, and the boys have one although both are still learning.
Funeral. Sudden unexpected death a couple of hours away from home. May take a while for certificates etc. We had at least talked about what he wanted due to the random swedish death conversations. I may struggle with his requirement for druids and a stone circle though.
Limited company - 4 shares, 3 held by him, 1 by me. Not traded for a few years. Thousand or so in the account which I now cannot access as we never added me.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
