Good idea to do the 15 minute and 30 minute blasts. I am doing the same here and it seems to work...

When I'm stuck at something, I use top of the hour method - at the top of every hour I do only one thing that's a sticking point, sometimes my enthusiasm lasts 5 minutes, sometimes 30 and once in a while up to 45. Always have an audiobook or podcast going at the same time which helps to distract from annoying task! 4 or 5 times during the day & then put it to bed for the next time.

Thank you all for the suggestions and encouragement. I went with 'make myself do 15 minutes' and addressed the most emotional things first, so his reading glasses off his craft table and into the recycling box for example. I ended up doing an hour or so, relocated some easy wins to the garden workshop and filled a black bag with scrappy bits.

It is a difficult room to do because it is so very him - full of things he had made, was making, materials for things he planned to make and random things he had saved because they might make something interesting.

Nicely timed as the roofer is now coming tomorrow to see if we can do an air vent or a velux so will need to be in the bedroom. I was out on a family thing this morning but I cracked on with more clearance once I got back.

Well done for making a start on what's clearly a difficult task, I can only imagine. Hope you're managing to do lots of nice things for yourself in the meantime. I'm also happy to be used for practical tasks if that's what you need xx
