The GP has been back in touch about blood pressure meds. I’ve said I still want to try controlling it with lifestyle changes. I’ve got to do some home readings when we get home from holiday next week…….so I’m really watching what I’m eating, listening to the hypno tapes from a few years ago and trying to exercise more. I’m finding this difficult as my ankle is still playing up. I’ve just walked around to my friends which is less than a 10 minute walk and I could barely put my foot on the ground by the time I got there, and I wore the brace from the hospital. She had to bring me back in the car. I’m going to rest as I’ve got the gks coming mid week and we’re hoping to have a shopping trip with the vouchers they had for Christmas. It’s not often I get to take them out on my own so I’ll dose myself before we head out and just pace myself.

Dd and SIL are having a night away in the big city whilst we have the kids and then having a couple of nights here with us all. We’re heading to an Indian restaurant for a meal on Friday. My Christmas gift to everyone. It’s at a restaurant that opened last year which is in a building shaped like a pyramid. I made them all a cardboard pyramid at Christmas which they opened telling them we were having a meal next time they came back. It’s pretty good value and walking distance from home. There’s something for everyone- even me who only does mild curry 😂😂

So I need to get this ankle sorted as I’ve got a couple of busy weeks….they head home on Saturday and we’re out in Millie Motorhome on Sunday. We’re heading to York so lots of walking again……or it might end up sitting people watching. I’m hoping the campsite will be ok as it’s by the side of the river which has been flooded.
It’s going to be a spendy week or so.

  • have you ever tried any of Michael mosley’s suggestions to reduce blood pressure? Might be worth a look.

Why are you so against the blood pressure medication? Hope the ankle improves.
    Enjoy the family visit.

I watched the Michael Mosley programme about blood pressure many moons ago and I remember him suggesting 60g oats daily. I’ve been having porridge most days with raspberries and blueberries. Thanks for the reminder INOD I’ll look him up again.

Beanie…..I just feel once I’m on medication I’ll never get off it and I won’t have the incentive to loose weight….which isn’t helping my ankle at all. Plus I am worried that the long term effect could aggravate my tummy. I’ve already had 2 perforations in my intestines and if I can can away without taking more meds I will. If I can’t loose weight and get it down myself I will reluctantly go on them.

I want a tidy up today and tomorrow I’ll put the camp beds up ready for the family to descend on Wednesday. I need to do some shopping at some point too. Oh and I’m having my hair cut this afternoon and am supposed to to be going to aqua aerobics later. I’m undecided whether to cancel again but once I’m in the water it’s not bad as I modify the activity so it’s not putting too much pressure on me 👍 It just walking from the changing room to the pool that’s the agro 🥴

I’m not quite sure where time has gone.
We had Dd and her family here for a few days over half term then we took Millie Motorhome out for a few days to York. We came home early as it was a neighbours funeral.
In between times I’ve been doing lots of decluttering and sending things to the charity shops and a nursery I worked at many moons ago. It was lovely to see some of the staff who were still there including one lady who was a trainee that I was mentoring her and is now the headteacher. I’d forgotten what a lovely place it was when things were going well…..unfortunately I was on long term sick for them first time and things too a downwards spiral so I moved on. Anyway they were very appreciative of a couple of bags of books and toys that the gks had outgrown. I also bit the bullet and gave my sisters wedding dress to a charity shop…..I cut my wedding dress up to make cushions up fot charity years ago but when she died I somehow inherited hers. It’s a 1968 dress and the shop were very pleased with it saying they’d send it to the vintage specialist shop. I suppose I could have sold it but it was a spur of the minute decision and it didn’t seem right to sell it….i think she’d have liked to see some good come of it. If it hadn’t have gone then I’d probably have kept it forever.

We’ve (Dh) been painting the hall where the plastering was patched. I think it’s had 5 coats and is still very obvious. I don’t think we’ll get away with just painting the one wall. I wish the ceiling wasn’t so high 😯

I’ve just finished the ironing and need to put it away and put lots of things I’d pulled out of the wardrobe looking for something in the bedroom. But first I’ll have some lunch 😀

I’ve got a very sensitive stomach but was recently diagnosed with very high blood pressure, and prescribed a high dosage of medication. My first question was, is it going to affect my stomach? I’m pleased to say that all was well.I take the medication after breakfast.

well done on donating the wedding dress. I find when I act on a feeling to rehome, I rarely regret it

Liselle that is reassuring to know 👍 Thanks.

Re the blood pressure…..I was looking for my bp monitor which wasn’t in its usual spot in the cupboard, I blamed Dh for moving it 🥴 he’s a so’n’so for putting things in bags and boxes never to be seen again for years 😂😂😂😂 I had the bedroom upside down. I looked under the bed which has a cantilever mechanism for raising the mattress to get to storage. Low and behold there it was right in the corner (near the wedding dress - which prompted the trip to charity shop with said dress ) I can only assume I must have opened the bed and it dropped there. I took it out and it was crushed and totally bent out of all recognition by the cantilever mechanism. I had to do some serious grovelling to Dh 😂😂😂😂😂 Anyway I ended up buying a new machine……£22 later…..which incidentally is cheaper than the original one. I took several days worth of readings which were much lower than the previous ones taken by pharmacist and 12 hour monitor. I dropped them in at the gps yesterday. So I’d say high end within normal for my age 🤞the doc will agree with my diagnosis 😂

I’ve been to use my cinema pass with a friend this morning, we saw H is for Hawk. The hawk was a magnificent bird but let’s say the story wasn’t particularly a feel good film. From there I went to see another friend and had a cuppa with her. I was out longer than I expected so the jobs I’d intended doing will just have to wait until tomorrow.

It has been lovely seeing the sunshine today - a much needed boost after a gloomy film and doom and gloom every time the news is switched on.

I find if I take a BP reading immediately on waking it's 122/82, but if I have it taken at a GP of the hospital it's at least 150/92 - and last time was 182/92 — I wondered whether I should take my device with me to the hospital and take a reading at the same time as the hospital reading to compare whether my device is accurate?

What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

A lot of people have much higher BP when with a nurse/GP/pharmacist - known as white coat syndrome even without the white coat present! It's well known.
