We’re thinking we might get the house valued as it is and ask the estate agent how much it’d be worth if we have the damp sorted first. We might be better off cutting our losses and not having to endure the mess it’ll involve 🤷🏻♀️ I haven’t sold a house for over 40 years so it’s a whole new experience 🥴
My brother finally got home late last night. There was a mess up providing an ambulance.January spends - £587.584 -
Good idea on getting the estate agent to do the valuation. Glad your brother is home.

Big decisions all round at the moment for you and DH but quite exciting!
I'd begin the decluttering anyway - even if you decide not to move it'll be nice to sort things out….

It’s been another busy week this week. We contacted 3 damp proof specialists. The first came and sent us a quote 😯, the 2nd rescheduled 3 times and then didnt show 😡 the 3 rd came today. Told us immediately how much it would cost and disagreed with the 1 st guy about what’d need doing. There was a difference of nearly £5000 in the quotes. Granted the first guy was going to do more for the money but today’s guy didn’t deem it necessary. He’s has recommended some treatments Dh can do himself and will knock plaster off the wall that is the main culprit, put a waterproof barrier in and replaster then put a device in the loft to keep condensation down. We think we’re going to go with that as I know it’ll put potential buyers off to see yellows damp patches on the wall…apparently penetrating damp rather than rising damp 👍. He’s sending us what he said today in writing and hopefully they’ll be able to start soon.
It was Ds birthday yesterday so we met him in the big city. We couldn’t get booked into the restaurant until 2.30, which was later than we really wanted, so we headed to the museum which has been undergoing some refurbishment. We knew the area housing steam engines had just reopened so planned a mooch and coffee. Typically it was closed for the day due to unforeseen circumstances. We had a mooch around the parts we’d been around many times and noticed a new area dedicated area to computer games. It was free to get in and there were rows of old computers with games ds played whilst growing up. We spent so long in there we didn’t have time for a coffee 😂 even I enjoyed playing the old games. I don’t think I’d like to go over a weekend or school holiday though 🥴 I bet it’ll be heaving 😳We had a gorgeous meal. Excellent value at £26 for 3 courses in a January offer. They brought ds his dessert with a candle in and happy birthday written on his plate then a free cocktail. The staff were so attentive and the place was absolutely packed. I’ve only ever been in there once before and that was when we’d had vouchers bought for our 40th wedding anniversary. The Black Forest pavlova was to die for and I enjoyed every calorie 😄👍I need to research the history of the building as it is quite intriguing insideJanuary spends - £587.582 -

I’ve been to see my brother today and he has amazed everyone with his recovery. He did look tired as it was his golden wedding anniversary yesterday and they were inundated with visitors. That’s why I left it until today…I knew he’d have a houseful and would be tired. They were thrilled with the golden wedding rose and yellow flowers I’d planted up for them. It’s taken pride of place by his front door 😄
I’m going to see a Neil Diamond tribute band tonight. My friend should have been coming but she is poorly so Dh is coming instead. It’s a shame to waste the ticket but would have been more fun with my friend 😂😂😂🫣

The Neil Diamond tribute band was fantastic. 8 musicians and the lead singer sounded just like him. Dh enjoyed it too. As per usual though, the seat immediately in front of me was empty until 5 minutes after the show started then the tallest, chunkiest fella ever came and sat in front of me. I could see both ends of the stage but not the middle blocked by his head…..unless I stuck my head into the aisle to see around him….thankfully it was an end of row seat. They chatted all through the show which was really distracting and they kept getting their phones out again really off putting. I don’t know why they bothered going. The amount of folk drinking loads and then getting up to go to the loo, disturbing most of the row was unbelievable. Anyway we changed seats half way through and had a perfect view 😄 That’s the last couple of shows I’ve seen - there was nearly a stand up fight a couple of rows ahead of us over Christmas when we were in a theatre in big city 😳 What is up with theatre goers atm 🤷🏻♀️🥴
I went to collect my prescription on Friday and the pharmacist dragged me in for a BP reading. As I expected it was high - it always is when I have it taken by a professional 🥴when I take a weeks worth at home they’re high but on the verge of needing meds. Anyway the upshot is I’m wearing a 12 hour monitor. It’ll come off at bedtime. My prescription was out of stock and the pharmacist phoned the surgery whilst I was there to get it changed to a similar tablet. The surgery weren’t having any of it so I had to come home, request a telephone appointment via e mail, wait for the doctor to speak to me before approving what the pharmacist suggested. I was quite impressed the doctor phoned back within a couple of hours. Did seem a waist of time though.
I’ve been having a chilled day and not doing things to raise my blood pressure whilst I’ve got this monitor on. I really don’t want to go on medication.
I nipped into Aldi and spent £12 on a few fresh bits.
We’re having a device put into the loft on Thursday to help stop condensation then there coming to knock some plaster off the hall wall next Wednesday and Thursday. Hopefully it’ll do the job 🤞
Dh is beginning to worry about the difference in house prices between where we want to move and where we are now….it’s going to be an interesting ride 😯
