Milann’s mutterings through retirement

We had a lovely few days at dds. The Easter raffle winnings went down really well with everyone. Especially the balloons…..I thought the gks were too big for them these days but great fun was had. Of course much chocolate was consumed.
We viewed 5 bungalows and 1 would be lovely to live in with a bit of an extension to the kitchen……which would be doable with the budget we have (if we sell the house for somewhere near the asking price) I’m hoping it’ll still be on the market when we have an offer on ours. I’m already planning it in my head 😜 It’s about a mile from ds and 1 1/2 miles from Dd. There was a place in between the 2 of them but it was at the top of our budget with a tiny kitchen with no room for expansion and no extra money to do it with. The photographer came and photographed our house yesterday and is planning an open afternoon next weekend…that’s providing there is any interest.
The weather was beautiful and we had a bbq at dds beach hut, I took the gks to the town nearby and youngest gdd was spending a voucher she’d been given. She picked her outfit and took it to try on….the jacket was a tad small so we went to get the next size and theyd all vanished and there was just an empty space…..the shop assistant said the manager had just taken them to the sales rail. Gdd was very pleased to get £10 off the outfit 😁so she still has £11 on her gift card 👍 She learning MSE skills. We had a walk along the Roman walls in the sunshine and one of these days when we move down there I’ll get to see the cathedral.
We got to see ds new bungalow - I knew it needed a lot doing to it BUT it’s a real state…..it’ll be a big job 🥴😳😳 Once it’s finished it should be lovely but I suspect he’s got a bit of a bumpy road ahead…….
Today I have been going through old paperwork and have managed to get it down to 2 boxes from 4. I was just going to go out and burn it all when it started persisting down for a great height. It’s stopped raining now but a tad too windy to be burning papers.
I can’t believe we’re only home until weekend and we’re off to Cornwall for a week. It has come around so quickly. This will probably be the decider whether we keep Millie Motorhome or sell her towards the house.I’m going out with some friends from singing on Monday but it’ll be a relatively cheap day using my pass on the tram. We’ll probably have lunch out somewhere and we’re having a tour of a town hall in a neighbouring town. There will be 6 of us going so we should have a nice time.

The house finally went on the market today. I was expecting it to be listed on Monday. We walked to the estate agents to see what was happening and he’d sent all the info to us between us leaving home and arriving there. When we looked properly at the floor plan he’d just copied downstairs doors to the upstairs 🥴 which meant there’s no door into the loo and apparently you need to go through one bedroom to the other bedroom with no access from the landing 🫣 we promptly got back to get it sorted….plus there’s spelling mistakes in the blurb. I wasn’t impressed. Hopefully he’ll pull his socks up now he’s had a flea in his ear. Watch this space.
I really could do without going away at weekend…..I’m just not feeling the need to travel - think I’ve had my fill of traffic over the last few weeks…..we’ve travelled up to Scotland and way down South in the last few weeks. Is it ungrateful to want to have a lazy week at home. I’ll enjoy it once I’m there…..just the thought of packing and leaving everything stick and span. Really hoping we have a better journey than last time we were there…..13 hours to get home it’s usually about 6.
I’ve been crocheting hexagonal throws for my gks. I’d taken them with me when we visited to show them they were nearly ready and to check the sizing. 😂😂😂😂 I tried a different way of joining the 130 hexagons last night - I’d had hundreds of ends to sew in on the first one 😯 I spent ages joining the hexagons of the 2 nd throw with pins and stitch markers. Oh my goodness when I picked it up from the bag to try and crochet together- I’m sure it came to life and did a jig in the bag 😂😂😂😂😂talk about tangled mess….so I’ve just spent an hour undoing all the little hexagons 😯😯😯will have to go back to plan a and make strips then sew the strips together and then sew in the ends 🫣😯🫣😯I’ve done quite well cash wise and been using my freezer, been resisting buying anything except absolutely necessary things. £4.30 spent on bread and milk today.

Here’s hoping for a quick sale. I can see what you mean about not having to go away.

I know exactly how you’re feeling about hitting the road again. I was supposed to be working in Dublin tomorrow but with the north having joined in with the fuel protests, I cancelled. Life is too short. On Monday a friend of a friend spent more than 5 hours on a 90 min journey

We’ve packed Millie Motorhome. We seemed to pack it much more easily than usual so hopefully I haven’t forgotten anything. Maybe it’s because the house is unusually tidy in view of having had the estate agent in and I haven’t been doing my usual blitz of the house and meeting myself coming backwards trying to catch up on washing and ironing ….it’s only needed a quick once over. I suppose there’s a lesson in there for me some where 🥴😂
We have 4 viewings so far this coming week…..it’s all getting very real. I can see us moving well before ds at this rate. I know a viewing doesn’t mean a sale but it’s a start.
I wanted a new black cardi….i have a short one but my long one I wear a lot has a couple of holes where I’ve caught it on a sharp door plate….the plate has now been hammered so I can’t catch anymore clothes on it as I’ve ruined a few things and it’s been like that since we had the new doors put in in 2006……finally sorted it as we’re about to move house 😂😂 Anyway I went to Mr M@rris@ns and found one reduced to £12 from £18……thank you very gladly Mr M. I needed washing pods as I’d run completely out…..something I haven’t done for a while. I ended up getting them from B&M as it worked out cheaper than Morris’s…..1/2p a pod - not much but better in my pocket than there’s. Both shops are on the same site 👍
Not sure what time we’re leaving in the morning…..I’m feeling it slightly more today now we’re ready for the off.
My mission is to watch what I eat. I’m allowing myself 1 cream tea and 1 pasty……but I don’t want to go too mad as I often do when we travel to Cornwall……in fact I’m hoping to eat in the van more than we’ve ever done before 🤞🤞……watch this space 👍I’ll be back next week 😀

We arrived home at about half 3 today. The best journey we’ve ever had 6 1/2 hours including a break of about 1/2 hour. Much better than the 13 hour one on our way home last year. We had a lovely time….very chilled and paced. The weather was beautiful yesterday - I even went bare armed 😀 most of the time though it was very windy and cold even though the sun made appearances. I forgot how beautiful the coastline is and I could watch the waves all day. We used the bus a fare bit to get about and I take my hat off to the double decker bus drivers getting down the tiny, winding lanes. We did go out in Millie Motorhome but stuck to the roads we knew that were A roads.
We think we’ve made the decision to sell Millie Motorhome. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time together but neither myself or Dh are out and about as much as we were… we are spending more time in the van. We used to be out all day and then go for an evening walk and a drink out after tea. However we’ve found we’re both shattered after tea and we tend to chill inside. We both preferred having more space when we recently stayed in a static van. We have had fun together but unless Dh has a sudden change of heart it’s time for us to part ways.
Food wise I’ve not been perfect but have definitely been better than I usually am when I’m down in Cornwall. I didn’t have any icecream (mainly because I’m having problems with a tooth) I ate a bit of Dh pasty but not 1 of my own 😇 I did have cake and a cream tea. I’ll weigh myself tomorrow to see what the damage is. We did some walking but I found some of the walks we used to do too difficult with my ankle which won’t cope with uneven surfaces 😡 anymore.
I did treat myself. I’m going to a wedding in a 8 weeks with a friend. I have dresses in my wardrobe but no shoes to go with them. I do have a pair of blue shoes that’d be ok for a wedding that I’m pretty sure I can still wear….but no dress to match. None of my dresses fit properly and I’ve tried loosing weight to get back in them but the incentive isn’t there as I have trouble wearing nice shoes cos of my wonky ankle. Annnd a dress needs nice shoes for a formal event. Anyway I went in my favourite sea salt shop. I watched a lady try a beautiful dress on so tried a similar one on myself…..I loved it but the shoes wouldn’t have gone with it. Chatting to the assistant I said I’d wished it was blue to go with my accessories. She toddles off and comes back with the same dress in 2 different sizes in blue. The bigger was too big around the shoulders and bust….fitted perfectly around my tum, the smaller fitted great around the shoulders but slightly tight around the tummy. They were both way too long. She then said they did it in petite….i didn’t know s salt did a petite range. Next I knew I was ordering it to be delivered to my home in petite. So now I have the incentive to loose a bit from around my middle by 26 June. I tried to get the balance right between holiday treats and ‘operation blue dress’ I can’t wait for it to arrive so I can try it on with accessories and reinforced pull it all in knickers 🥴🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😯😜I’ll pay my cc in full tomorrow. I did pay for a quite a few things with cash I’d saved from my monthly fun cash pot. What doesn’t get spent gets saved for another fun time.
We had 6 viewings whilst we were away. The estate agent said he’ll report back to us tomorrow 🤞I’m not expecting any offers on the house because although he said he’d speak to us when we got home from holiday….I'm sure he’d have contacted us straight away if he’d had any offers. A friend is coming around tomorrow for dinner so I need to nip out for some something to give her in the morning then I have a man coming to do the energy efficiency survey for the estate agent. I shall put the world to rights with my friend whilst waiting for him to arrive.
Dh is working most of the week to help his old boss out with a job. I’m quite looking forward to some time at home 😀
