Milann’s mutterings through retirement

I’m pleased the electrics have behaved again…..no idea what the big problem was on New Years Day.Yesterday was spent bringing the buildings in from the model railway in readiness for when they begin the re roof. I’d hate a rogue tile to be dropped on it. Dh has started bringing train track in too…It’s surprising how much there is already and he’s not brought half in yet 🥴 The plan is to test every piece of track to find out where the fault is. Hopefully by spring the roof will be done and everything can go back out in time for Dh to retire in March 🤞
We’re debating whether or not to get a loft ladder and have the loft boarded. We’ve lived in the house nearly 40 years without access up there and there isn’t much space as the bedroom ceilings curve into that space. Next door is getting his dad to do his for him and it might be worth considering (his dad is in the building trade and recently put a cupboard around the boiler in the kitchen for us) Buuuttttt would Dh fill it with treasured items (junk) 😂😂😂 I suppose it depends on the price.January spends - £587.583 -
The loft is the next job on my list. It’s already boarded and has electricity but needs a new hatch and a safe ladder. When I was a little girl we lived in a bungalow and my bedroom was in the loft. I used to access it via fold up ladders which I thought was very exciting. In the end it was converted properly with a wooden staircase. Not as exciting though 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

Bet that was so exciting to go up a ladder to your room SA.
I think we’re leaning toward leaving the loft as it is as Dh says there’s not much space up there at all….January spends - £587.580 -
A loft ladder and boarding out has been on our to do list since we moved into this house.

If our builder ever reappears, that’s the first job on the list, plus insulation. However, we are only going to partially floor to hopefully restrict the amount of stuff that goes up there.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Is next door the same design as yours? If so could you ask if you could look at their loft once the work has been done to help you both decide if it would be helpful to have the work done on yours?Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

My sister is having part of her loft insulated and boarded. Half of it was already done by the previous owners of the house but she's now decided to insulate and board the rest. They got some quotes from local tradesmen and the cost was coming out at the £1,500 mark. Her OH's rather handy nephew is now going to do it for the cost of the lagging and wood!

Mmmmmm…..the clearing of the railway tracks in readiness for the scaffolding being done has come to a bit of a standstill. We ended up going out yesterday. We went to the seaside place we didn’t go to on New Years Eve. We had a great day. And it’s very icy out there today.
We stopped en route to seaside for a Spoons breakfast. They’ve got a sale on atm and a selection from the menu is reduced. So we had a breakfast wrap each and Dh and ds had a couple of coffees each….I only had one drink as I was aware we had a long drive ahead of us and there would be no loos 🥴 All for £3.99 each 👍 We nipped next door to the indoor ski centre and spent a good half hour watching the skiers. I do like people watching. There were some youngsters doing amazing jumps I can't even walk on flat ice……never mind when hurtling down hill with a pair of sticks stuck to my feet😂😂Great admiration from us to them.
From there we headed to seaside town and had a walk along the coast and around The Christmas Village on the front that was still there. I did feel sorry for the lady on the stall selling Christmas ornaments as they didn’t have any takers as they were still selling them at full price…I wouldn’t have paid full price before Christmas never mind afterwards…she looked bored and frozen. We had a cuppa in one of the coffee chains…..Dh and ds had a free one each from their energy provider and ds also had a voucher for £1 drink from his phone company which I used. So for £13 we’d had 8 hot drinks and 3 breakfasts 👍😂
We walked back to the car just as it was going dark and drove along the illuminations. Stopped at our favour cafe at the far end of the lights before heading home before the forecast snow made an appearance. That cost Dh £45 for the 3 of us. As it happened the snow arrived much later than expected, we were back before any fakes were seen. I didn’t actually see it snow but it was white this morning when we awoke and promptly went back to our cosy beds with a cuppa and bacon butty. There is just enough of a coating to make it like an ice rink when it freezes. I won’t be going out until it thaws.
I’m just putting off taking the decorations down. I usually leave them to 6th but Dh is at home today and he can put them back in the top of the wardrobes for me. I’ll just finish my cuppa and get on with it.January spends - £587.583 -
