Wow … hope you heal wellDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

You all seem as appalled by that piece of file as i was. Still munching painkillers and spending time resting. Got up to take Charming Cob for his lameness workout and it is likely that he has tendon damage that may require surgery. The tests were not conclusive and the vet stopped explaining why she could not do anymore that day (very sensible) and so we go back next week. The investigations yesterday were covered by two months money I set aside and next weeks will be covered by another two months so that is all good. Less good is that the surgery is not always successful at returning the horse to ridden work or even returning him field sound which he is at the moment. I'm trying to keep calm and nothing is clear until next week but it seems so sad. I lost so many years while the ex destroyed my confidence and then all that battle to settle things and now as I settle into my new life my gorgeous cob may need to be retired. I keep telling myself not to think the worst but it is there like a nagging shadow behind me now.

Oh Watty, hoping some 'good news' comes your way soon after all that.3

I know its hard to not focus on 'not always successful' but that also means 'sometimes successful' or 'often successful' or even 'nearly always successful'?

Think positive about Charming Cob, as daisy said, ‘not always’ can mean ‘nearly’ always. Sending you hugs.6

I think CC will always be charming and you will always value him, whether or not this problem turns out to be long term - and as already said, it may not be. I also feel you are having to cope with lots at present and have been for a long time, and once the pain has abated and hopefully the workload too, you will feel more resilient.
That savings fund for medical costs was a wise move. Could the vet put you in touch with anyone whose horse has had the same surgery and with whom you could discuss it? I'm just thinking it may throw out some new perspectives and help inform your choice.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Goodness I'm a bit emotional. You have all reduced me to tears this morning. @Cherryfudge that is a brilliant idea. I also have a friend who is an advanced trainer and I will speak to her as well. @daisy_1571 and @FreetodoasIlike thank you for the change in perspective so if we go for surgery then I will start saying to myself it is successful in most cases. And you are all right, he will always be the most charming of horses and will be with me for the rest of his life whatever happensMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I'm so glad our ideas help. Sometimes I write something then later think have I been blindingly obvious, too trite, somehow dismissive of somebodys feelings. Writing it, of course, will not always be read the way it would have been heard in somebody's voice.
I'm so very glad when something I've said resonates. Its easy to be so caught up in a situation that its hard to see other viewpoints and I know I get caught thinking there's only one way to think about this particular aspect of my life. I love it when I read a sentence and it just lets me see something I've been pondering from the exact opposite view, or a sideways look can give a whole other dimension. I know how helpful other folks have been to me so I'm very grateful if something i can help with does actually help the poster, another reader or a lurker.

Catching up on diaries between bouts of work. Had a very unMSE day Sunday as went off to buy a new pair of boots as my current riding boots are falling apart and as that meant a long drive to try lots of pairs on at what can best be described as an equine superstore I had lunch out which was a lovely treat then stopped at Ikea and enjoyed a good wander around the store with my credit card firmly remaining in my phone until I got to the rug section. I wanted a rug for the living room as the floor is tiled and it looks cold since I removed the grubby and dog chewed one that was there.
Rug purchased then home to collect Wattydog who had had a very boring day alone and took him for a long walk across the fields to the local posh country hotel where we sat outside on the terrace and I drank English sparkling wine, I had snacks and he ran around finding sticks from their trees to play with and then in the dusk we walked back across the fields. There were sheep in the field with the footpath so rather naughtily we walked back across a field that is clearly going to be cut for hay simply because it was safer for the sheep! I don't mind in clear daylight but in the gloom I was worried a daft sheep might sneak up on us.
The VNM spent an evening teaching his mother how to turn her telly on. I supplied large sheets of A3 paper and coloured pens to draw her instructions and draw around her remotes so that she can manage as this has been a consistent theme for a few evenings now. Not sure if that will work but it seemed a good idea.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
