That's a good way of spending sleepless time, Watty. I find it helps reset my body to sleep if I give up trying and have a snack and a read. How's the lurgy today?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Exhausting day yesterday for both me and the Charming Cob.ย We went to vets for a further lameness exploration.ย We were there over 8 hours.ย He has had many joints injected with local anaesthetic to see joint was causing the problem.ย ย It was unclear where he was actually lame but the good news it was not the tendon which was the first concern as that was blocked and x-rayed really early on.ย The bad news got worse as the day progressed.
At one point the vet asked if I would object to the computer diagnostics being used (extra cost) and some really impressive sets of sensors were bought out. She warned me it was just a piece of the puzzle and not always "the answer" and that was indeed the case as we ended up with four vets and a computer.ย The 4 vets were 50/50 and the computer actually changed its mind more than once during the investigations.
We have ended up the day with a diagnosis of lameness in two joints one in each hind leg and something "not right" on the left front leg and stopped then as it was gone 5 pm.ย ย As the problem comes and goes the vet felt that I needed to do "something" as he is too young to be maintained on painkillers and yet the gold standard option (inject steroids into the joints affected) is not an option we can use because of the risk of longer term problems given a pre-existing condition).ย There is really one other option that I can consider which is expensive and I'm thinking over or I move away and go completely "alternative" which comes with costs too obviously.
No hurry to decide but thinking this one over.ย ย

What a day - for both of you.
I hope you both have an easy day today. And what a star CC is for putting up with all that.
I know nothing about horse health, but what's standing out is that nothing is standing out, so I wonder if there's either a combination of factors or an external cause, perhaps something environmental that doesn't affect most bodies but to which he's sensitive?
Taking time to think it over is almost always the best move. Things will settle into place for you and possibly one of the vets will also have an inspiration.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Hi Watty, I wonder if they suggested Arthrimed as an alternative to the steroids? I would suggest just treating one joint at a time starting with the most arthritic and you might find that the forelimb lameness resolves. Its common to have compensatory pain elsewhere if they are uncomfortable behind. My horsey physio is also seeing good results with an indiba machine. She had one on trial and was initially very sceptical, but has found it very effective for horses with mild changes."Itโs all about balance, do you see? Balance is the trick. Keep the balance andโโ She stopped. โYouโve ridden on a seesaw? One end goes up, one end goes down. But the bit in the middle, right in the middle, that stays where it is. Upness and downness go right through it. Donโt matter how high or low the ends go, it keeps the balance.โ5

@Rach273 yes Arthrimed was suggested and at that point my brain was frazzled and Charming Cob also tired and I think we both wanted to get home.ย ย The more I think about it today I think that is the route we might try as I'm not sure the changes are mild, he is a bit of a warrior type and tries his heart out if I ask him to do something even if it is difficult for him.ย We opted not to do x-rays to see how marked the changes were as the vets view was it would just run up a bill and it wouldn't change the outcome.ย ย I've just chatted to a trainer who is at mine teaching one of my neighbours who uses the arena and the trainer knows of two horses who have had really great results with Arthrimed so that helped me feel a little more like trying it.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Hopefully CC will heal soon - they do wear themselves outย
a family member had 6 horses (2 now in horsey heaven at ripe old age of 31) and has become an expert in doing horsey medicine due to constant vet visits - the worse was the racing filly with its spa days and tongue op !ยThey are definitely a passionยDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
