Returned two dresses for refund and the money is back in my account. Not buying clothes this year re financial goals but I have been asked to wear black for the funeral. I look awful in black so thought I would try and borrow a dress from a friend's daughter who is a similar size but then with the cleaning bill and the faff of getting dress to cleaners etc I realised that was going to be stressful so I did a quick shop on line. Ordered three dresses, the cheapest one was a good fit so that will do.
The VNM asked what I was going to do about a coat and offered to buy one when I said go without. He worried I would be cold however I refuse to have any money spent on a black coat that I will only ever wear to a funeral and will then clutter up my wardrobe.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!8 -
The only black clothes I have are funeral clothes and I don’t like seeing them in my wardrobe either …
Lovely, lovely news on the puddy tat 😊❤️🤩 So relieved for her.

Do you have a dark pashmina or big scarf you could take? A work blazer jacket? Agree that buying a coat for one or rare wear is a waste of money but don't want you making an already difficult and miserable day worse by being freezing! Or do you have thermals that won't be evident under the dress?!https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase

I also don’t have black clothes in my wardrobe - but do have a smart cocktail black dress by my favourite designer which I saw on Vinted so figured it be useful - I was thinking of jazzing it up but maybe best to leave as useful - hopefully I don’t have to wear it oftenPennysIntoPounds said:Do you have a dark pashmina or big scarf you could take? yeah to being an equine pc and happy catDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

if you ever see me in black im going to a funeral. I have black canvasy trousersand a top folded in a little box, a pair of flat black ballet type shoes and a black handbag. Useful clothing to have as there's always funerals but I also don't want to see them in my wardrobe. I also have a devore big scarf in there which can be used as coat in summer or scarf in winter but it folds small. I was going to chuck it as I never wore it as a scarf till I thought about double duty funeral wear.
Luckily my 'big winter smart coat' is very dark grey and ive had it probably 20 years so thats fine for winter. Unless I'm standing at a grave side when the big coat will do, I just accept i may be cold for an hour in crem or church.
Another option is to have the coat on then when you are getting to the funeral place take it off, fold it loosely inside out (as most linings are plain and dark) and put it over your arm.22: 3🏅 4⭐ 23: 5🏅 6 ⭐ 24 1🏅 2⭐ 25 🏅 🥈⭐ Never save something for a special occasion.
