PennysIntoPounds said:Do you have a dark pashmina or big scarf you could take? A work blazer jacket? Agree that buying a coat for one or rare wear is a waste of money but don't want you making an already difficult and miserable day worse by being freezing! Or do you have thermals that won't be evident under the dress?!
@Watty1 I might have a black pashmina or a cardigan in my drawer that I haven't worn for ages. If I haven't already given them to the charity shop I don't mind sending one or both if you would like them? I will be home tomorrow and can check then x

Thank you so much for your ideas and especially @ajmoney for offering to post something. I've messaged my book club group who I'm seeing Tuesday evening to see if anyone has a black pashmina or scarf and I'll wear my purple coat which I can take off for the indoor parts and I feel better since purple is the colour of mourning in Scotland. (I'm not sure that it is quite the purple of my coat but if I can borrow a large enough scarf or pashmina it will be fine.

Pouring hard here, but managed to go out for a ride on the Charming Cob before making a curried lentil and carrot soup for lunch, putting a curry in the slow cooker for this evening (more of the flour mountain to be used up in making naan bread) and then used up a lot of the dried fruit and some of the more random flours making a fruit cake for the week ahead. I've really been sticking with the no bought in snacks and making things. There is finally some space in the cupboard and anything I'm not eating quickly enough gets frozen so there is spelt banana bread in the freezer.
The VNM eats just about anything so I am rediscovering my love of cooking. There is enough soup leftover for my lunch in the week ahead and I'll put the bread maker on so there is bread to go with the soup. (health goals and financial goals)
Now to plan when to teach the online course this year. I've decided to to trial an evening course this time around too and am dithering over the price I must admit but I think I have made a decision. Fits with the financial goals.

I didn't know that about purple being a mourning colour.
Am I allowed to ask the topic of the online course @Watty1?2 -
Great news about the cat. Hope you got the coat / scarf sorted.DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

I've pootled about on tinterweb and can't see anything official but I certainly know it as a Scottish mourning colour. I was interested to see if there was something specific behind it but other than generally a colour associated with the fragility of life and dignity of mourning (which referred to UK not Scotland) I couldn't find anything.

Not certain, but I think when people came out of 'deep mourning' which is black, they transferred to purple to show still in mourning - mind you I picked that up from reading Georgette Heyer books, so it only applied to rich people in regency times!
I Believe.....
That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

Good luck with the funeral. I’ve worn purple to a funeral - I’m sure it’ll be fine. There are more important things to focus on that what is worn.
Reading this, it’s given me the nudge to try and bake more to avoid unnecessary spending on snacks. I’m trying to go GF and the prices are ridiculous. Even baking for the kids would save money.MFW diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6254913/never-a-good-time-but-here-goes#latest
