Thanks @PennysIntoPounds and @Cherryfudge
Just like that 2024 is gone. Wanted to go to bed really as was tired but the local posh hotel was letting off fireworks at 8.45 (bit random that?) and then of course I was worried about the horses and the New Years Fireworks so stayed up to check they were OK. Around 9.15 I realised we had run out of milk as I was making a coffee so the VNM and I popped to the local garage. Saw just one car out on the road which was very odd, drove back via the village and admired the Christmas lights. Whilst in garage we purchased reduced sandwich and wrap so late night snack then bought a bottle of fizz.
The fireworks were predictably awful, I have come to really dread them. The horses however were complete stars and tucked into their hay as if the earth shattering bangs were normal.
For entertainment we watched Its A Wonderful Life on amaz0n but I must have clicked the wrong version as it was abridged and inexplicably cut out Clarence's tour of what life would have been like if ..... luckily we had both seen it before but very odd editing. (I love old movies!)Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

How can they edit that bit out? Some people shouldn't be allowed to have control of the edit button. I guess they wanted it down to 1 hour 30 minutes. No respect at all.

VNM's mother passed away yesterday.
Expected, sad, relieved she is no longer suffering.
Now I am walking the line between gently suggesting he needs to register the death and inform family and not getting over involved as not my family. Difficult. I was here with PPH's father and he told me to get on with everything and then later complained I took over. Trying very hard to be mindful of history repeating itself.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I'm really sorry to hear this, @Watty1, though I'm glad she's no longer suffering. Remember you have been able to do a lot to ease her final months.
I wonder if the blame from PPH was partly guilt that he didn't do those thing himself? The VNM is different but grief does strange things so it will be up to your judgement - but make the offers if you feel able, perhaps in the format of 'Would you like me to do X or would you rather do it?' rather than a blanket offer.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Sorry to hear this Watty. I was hoping she'd last a few more days so that NY isn't forever tinged with the sadness of her passing.I agree with cherryfudge, there's ways of offering he can take up or not as he sees fit. 'Is there anything you'd like my help with....' 'If you want me to help.....'I'm assuming it'll be the same as when my Dad passed away, we had an independent doctor phone a while after reporting his death asking questions about was it expected etc. Standard practice after Shipman we were told, but if he isn't aware that it will happen it could be quite distressing.Make £2025 in 2025

Sorry to hear that.
I'm sure you know all this but maybe you could send it to VNM so he's got a bit of a guide if you feel comfortable doing so
