The onward gifting is a lovely idea.
Hope it goes well - maybe take a home cooked muffin to surprise him and a flask of coffee etc. I am a great believer of feeding peopleDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks all
Managed to fit in a meeting with my accountant yesterday. Ran through a few things, got some ideas and talked about moving some of the company money into pension plan and also talked about what to do with the company. A review of my finances means that, as I said at the start of the diary, I might sell the company to gain an influx of cash for retirement rather than keep working. He made the point that I need to future plan and I should make this year the year I do that now I am free of PPH. I am taking that on board as a goal for the year.
A negative point was that I still owe Capital Gains Tax (some) as a result of selling my rental to PPH as accountant under estimated my income.
However and certainly worthy of celebration, I had the land registry title for the property through. I put the land on a separate title and that has finally gone through after over a year. This balances the capital gains, not financially but emotionally for sure.
I feel that chapter is closing.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

It seems that the VNM' mother has left specific funeral instructions in her will. Except he does not know where the will is. So I have agreed to spend the day helping him look. I offered as in would you like me to come and help with that was greeted with a rather desperate yes please as he has no idea where to start looking.
Then we will go to the home to deal with possessions and take a thank you tin of biscuits or chocolates for the team who have probably had a lot over Christmas but I remember once dropping a tin off in a January to the charity that had helped with feral kitten and finding that despite them being super busy no one had gifted anything so a small thank you seems appropriate.

Hope you are able to track down the will between you. Did the VNM's mum have a family solicitor or local firm used over the years for different issues who might have a copy?6

I'm going to tell you a tale. My friends wife died in 2006. He found that her current handbag had a lot of money in it & a bit later he found another one. I am talking over 5k. When the time came for him to move house over 10 years later his son & dil were helping him already when I turned up to help. They were just putting her stuff in bin liners to go in the skip. So I was there yelling stop what you are doing. Made them go through everything & sure enough more money, not such large quantities but a whole lot more than you would want to throw away. We also found envelopes taped to the bottom of drawers. Put it another way some people can do some very odd things & she wasn't even 60 then.

Crumbs @badmemory, that's a cautionary tale and a half!
My Mum had talked about living wills and green burial but her funeral plan, which I had a copy of, didn't mention either and neither did her will so we went with what we had. I did find forms but they weren't filled in so while they were to me an indication of her wishes, she'd not backed that up in her actual will. Even if the will isn't found, or found in time, sometimes you have to go with your best guess at what the person would have wanted.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Isn't there a curse about living in interesting times. I certainly wonder about some of my interesting times. It is a good job I can laugh at them. One thing I am sure of though is anyone going through any of my belongings is not going to find anything more interesting than yet another small pack of tissues. Well they may find the odd trolley coin. I know how to live!
