@thepurplepixie    I'm guessing a garden party?  I went a few years ago and it was absolutely wonderful, such a special day.  I took a pair of flat shoes (roll up flats) as I was warned there is a lot of standing and walking and if your shoes are not totally comfortable you might want a change.  As it was I bought a low heeled pair of shoes that were perfect for the day.      Fingers crossed for hip as I loved the walk around the gardens, they were unexpected!
My GS is getting his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award and I am his plus one.  I am highly honoured and looking forward to it.  It is in the gardens but we haven't got all the details yet.  The roll up flats are a good idea, I'll definitely pinch that idea.
  • @thepurplepixie Oh - Buckingham Palace - how exciting. Have you planned your outfit. My previous boss went there to a DoE award ceremony (he was the head of an Independent school and went with the Outdoors Pursuits manager). He had a blast. He actually met the then Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Philip) along with then Earl of Wessex and Sophie. I guess now that the Earl is the new Duke of Edinburgh you will probably meet them both. I can understand you wanting to look your best!

Thanks for the info.  about steam cleaning curtains - I will certainly give it a go. I also have a steam mop but don’t use it much as I don’t think it’s very effective on my porcelain kitchen tiles, which can get quite grubby. I also like to get down on my hands and knees and scrub, although these days it’s the getting up that’s the problem!

I'm not sure what to wear, I've sorted out travel and hotel but haven't started shopping for an outfit  yet.  I might do it next week but not got a clue what I'm looking for.  Hopefully I will know it when I see it.  Maybe a nice dress with a blazer, I'm more a jeans and t shirt girl but that isn't going to cut it.
  • Good Morning.  Happy Easter🐣.  I've had a lovely time, very busy, socialising with family, eating too much and now I'm shattered, not helped by losing that 1hr. Never mind I'm going to have a nice quiet day.  A bit of a mini at home spa day and just pottering about.

Popped myself on the scales this morning ....I will just say "Oh dear" and leave it at that!!!

We have had some lovely weather this last couple of days (not today alas, back to grey skies and gloom). I have just ordered myself a new sun lounger.......jumping the gun a bit but I do like to be prepared.  🌞.   Spring really is just round the corner.

Anyhoo.......the numbers on the scales really shook me this morning so it's time to stop being so half hearted and get serious. Yesterday I struggled to find something decent to wear and I felt so uncomfortable so that's it, down to business. I don't want to look and feel like a beached whale when the summer comes so it's now or never.

Massage booked for tomorrow and 🤞🤞🤞 I get my final crowns fitted on Friday.  I really hope there are no more delays.

Enjoy the rest of the Easter Break. Keeeeep fabbing.  💕💕

  • I hope everyone is having a nice Easter. Unfortunately, it’s raining here in the north-west but Good Friday was nice and sunny (although a bit chilly).

@helensbiggestfan I also weighed myself this morning. I have old manual and fairly new digital scales - I always weigh more on the digital scales as they are more accurate. I think I’m going to ditch the manual ones and just continue to use the digital ones from now on, as I was only fooling myself that I weighed slightly less! I had put on 3 lbs since I last weighed myself. I was going to try and limit my Easter chocolate this year, but received a large posh (ish) egg. I ate the chocs then proceeded to tear into the egg itself - hardly any left! No wonder I felt sluggish yesterday, and felt really uncomfortable in my clothes. Well, we are into another month so I’m going to bite the bullet and get this stone and a bit off in time for summer. The number on the scales really shocked me too. I know the number varies from time to time and you can still feel the same if the number is higher, but I have definitely put too much weight on as nothing fits!!!!

@thepurplepixie You must keep us all informed of what you plan to wear at your royal event. I think a dress with a nice blazer or jacket sounds ideal, and like @Watty1 recommended some fairly flat but stylish shoes. You must be very proud of your grandson and it was so thoughtful of him to take you as his plus one.

Well not a great day.  I had my dexa scan and I have osteoporosis, have to wait for the report from the Consultant but the nurse talked me through the results.  Bit disappointed but not entirely surprised.  I won't hear anything immediately as I am having an xray next week to try and work out what is going on with my hip and back and apparently the Consultant will wait to see those results before deciding the next steps.  Hope everyone else is having a better day.

Sorry to read that Purple Pixie.xx

I have booked to get my hair cut and coloured for next week as I haven't had it done since before xmas and it is a total mess.

I am out to the cinema tomorrow and we are staying at a hotel overnight. I am so glad the clocks have gone forward and that it is much milder. I am going to check the weather for tomorrow as we might go to the beach too.

Thanks Wednesday.  I hope the hair appointment goes well, I decided to colour my hair, cheer myself up sort of thing.  It looks pretty bad, how can a light cool blonde come out looking like mahogany?

Welcome to the Osteoporosis club @thepurplepixie. Don't worry, its not nearly as bad as the Drs will have you believe. I was diagnosed in 2016 and am fitter now than I have ever been, because it spurred me on to take matters into my own hands and exercise more and take more vitaminD, eat more fish and healthy stuff and generally get more positive about life.  Obviously everyone has their own ideas of how they want to tackle it. But when the GP casually said...oh yes you have OP, here is a prescription, I handed it right back and said there was no way I was taking medication for it, after reading so much of the side effects.  So I'm going down the natural route and don't even think about it these days.
Just do your research and don't believe everything the Drs tell you.
Thank you.  I have been on vitamin D for 5 years, daily dose.  The nurse running the clinic gave me a leaflet about calcium in the diet rather than supplements although she said supplements are right for some.  I bought a big bag of almonds as I love them and they are high in calcium.  I do eat a reasonable diet but I can't eat cheese which is a good source of calcium, it gives me migraines, same with oranges which seem like the best fruit for calcium.  Fortunately chocolate doesn't give me migraines so that's a blessing at least.  Any tips on diet gratefully received.

Looking at the details I have the bones of someone 15 years older than I am which is a bit of a shock.

The nurse did say it wasn't automatic that I'd need medication and I'd get a letter from the Consultant with recommendations about what to do so we will see what they come up with.  Two of the main things in the leaflet were giving up/cutting down alcohol - I am and always have been tee total, and giving up/cutting down on smoking - I tried a cigarette once when I was 11 but didn't like it so never tried it again.  I wonder what state I'd be in if I did drink and smoke?

I have my xray next week to try and find out what has caused my back and hip pain, a small slip and twist to avoid falling  has caused the sort of pain I've had for 4 months which seems a bit extreme.  Probably being my husband's carer for 30 years hasn't helped but never had a problem before.

I'm glad to hear it is going well for you, I hope I can do the same.
