I have an Acer aspire L100 pc with 19 inch monitor, it has just developed a fault. I contacted Acer who couldn't have been more helpful, I have to return it via dhl, acer are quoting a 7 -10 day return on my machine. Will send it off in the new year. Will update this thread on the service I receive. Must say though the machine for the money is very good.

I'm not saying it wouldn't but tight-git has ahd 4 computers in that time, roughly one every 6 months and a 2k computer will probably perform far better after 18months than a new £500 one.

One reason why I wouldn't want to spend £2k on a laptop is the very real possibility that it could be stolen.

Also, specifications have changed leaps and bounds making yesterday's Rolls Royce of laptops inferior in many ways to today's lada of laptops

    We have spent:

£899 on a decent spec advent over 3 years ago. This was not entry level at the time. This was a decent AMD Turion processor and had a separate graphics card. But it only had 512mB of memory and a 40gb hard drive. It had a CD rewriter /DVD Reader only

£599 on its recent replacement - an HP Pavilion Entertainment laptop. It has everything the Advent had except for infra red (who needs that these days). However it has a 160gb hard drive, an AMD Turion 64 x2 bit processor, 2 gb of memory, built in webcam, built in bluetooth, wide screen, remote control, CD and DVD rewriter etc etc etc. Many of these extra features were simply not available when we purchased over 3 years ago.

The fact of the matter is that even if we had spent £1500 3 years ago we could not have got the spec that cost us £599 more recently as in many cases equivilent specifications were not being sold at any price.

You buy what you need at the time, with a view to being able to upgrade the machine itself (add extra memory etc), besides laptops do seem to have reasonable residual values 2 years, or even 3 years down the line.

So tightgit's first laptop could be worth some £100 to some student who just needs a cheap machine for wordprocessing and doesn't want to rely on daddy to pick him/her up at the end of term, assumiong it is still functioning. Even if it is not then it has value as a spares or repairs machine.

i,m just warning people of the problems i have had , and as long as there is free speech i will continue to exercise my right to highlight bad service where i find it. i'm giving people the right to make a informed choice from mine and other peoples experiance , not taking cheap pop shots because i don,t agree with something.

It's the way you went about it that has caused such reactions. Rather than advise people or offer an opinion, you're being forceful with your views.

Posting a thread, big bold writing etc... If everyone did that this forum would be awash with hate threads.

By posting such a thread, and bumping it (well mainly people responding) it comes across that you've got some sort of vendetta against Acer. More of a personal thing than helping others, like you want to get back at Acer by putting people off. I'm not saying that's the case, but it sure comes across that way.

Being a technical forum, you should offer more details as to what happened. What went wrong? How did you go about getting help? What did they do? etc... Rather than just shouting out without any sort of details or factual evidence.

it sounds like that because of the way they have treated me . check the link in 1st post and goto page 1 to see , the crap they put me through . 10 weeks i have been made to wait without a laptop or a refund , because of their attitude and poor customer service. i

i want to spare others the rude and abusive customer service deparment and won,t lose sleep if i lose them a few sales in the process . i purchased the aspire because looked good and very high spec for the money. but the savings are not worth it when you find out how they treat you after they have your cash.

to have to threaten them with legal action to get a refund , after my laptop was stolen in thier care is a bridge too far.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

My wife bought an Acer a few months back - and it is still going strong. It is of good construction ( and I've had a few laptops in my time as a Field Engineer ) and very good value for money.

I would have no trouble telling anyone to buy an Acer - they are very good laptops.

  • i know i have said i wont post anymore but i want to put my view across..

about 2 yrs ago, i brought my 1st acer aspire 15inch screen - 10/10 , but sold it and brought a 17inch screen as i thought it would be better -as i use my laptop to show my clients photos and forms etc , i lost <£60 ! but had a bigger / better spec laptop!

my mistake as the 17'' is too large to carry around! , i then gave it to my nephew to use at uni - still using it now - GREAT laptop !

i replaced with a core2duo lenovo by march 07 - aug 07 went back for repair AND just this week it will be back for 2nd time - screen prob! they were OK in handling the repair BUT not great! i was told 1st and 2nd time round that my laptop was OUT OF WARRANTY! web help was useless but telephone was ok.

anyway , just brought a acer for 3rd time - T7300 flyer!!! great , where else can you buy such spec for less than £450 !!! , i get my vat back as its business ! i can afford to trade and up grade as often as i fancy...btw the lenovo was only £425 then ..fingerprint entry ,btooth, firewire etc ...i have sold to a mate it for £375 already ! so i think you can see my logic in buying these 'cheapish' but good spec laptops ......
  • Acer are quality computers.
Cheap usually equals rubbish but not in acers case.
Your's probaply went wrong from miss use.
I personally dont own an acer but when i get a new computer i would definently put acer in the picture.
My freinds £350 acer laptop is cheap and really good.

and how do you know this, I doubt you know the op but will make snap decissions, just like you 'know' acer are good even though you've never owned one.

    they are - not there

no, some will work but their failure rate is higher (from what I've seen) compared to other brands.

Wow you hate a company because you put a fairly demanding piece of software on a computer and it crashed - maybe next time do some research and find a suitable piece of hardware
