Could someone please tell me which email address you've been cancelling at?
Thanks guys.

We had huge problems trying to cancel our Setanta first wrote off in August 2008 and had numerous emails, phone calls flying back and forth them denying all knowledge blah blah, same old story as lots above me.

It's only in January 09 that it was finally sorted out, with a lot of help from our local Trading Standards who got onto them about it - we could provide a recorded delivery receipt from Aug 08 which no doubt helped prove we weren't lying. We had 3 months subscriptons refunded ( twice over by mistake actually sssh!!)

I strongly suggest those still having probs and being given the run around by "Sh*tanta" also get in touch with TS.

I'd avoid saying where you got the address from in case they get fed up with the emails :P

Also: Make it plainly clear that you do not wish to continue your subscription under any circumstances, since you don't watch the channel any more - WITHOUT being rude or pointing out your gripes. Gets you further :)
• Right, let's get this straight.

What you need to do is call them up on 08712003322 on a none match day. Find out (if you don't already know it) when your billing date is, what your Setanta account number is & tell them you're going to cancel. You'll be asked why & they might give you a reduced rate offer of some sort. Don't take it cause it'll just make the whole thing go on even longer.

The cancellation takes 30 days from the day your bill gets generated (not the day it's taken out) so give it 2 weeks before then to send in the cancellation.

It's in writing, either by email on requests@setanta.com or in the post (send it recorded delivery if you want to

cancellations
Setanta Sports
PO Box 182
The Quays
Newry

Put in the letter/email your Setanta account number & that you're wanting to give your notice.

The tricks here are NOT TO CANCEL DIRECT DEBIT OR CARD! Cause if you do you've broken with their contract & you may be liable believe or not!

Also 11 days or so after you've sent your letter or email, call them up on 08712003322 to get your cancellation date & make sure it's going through correctly.

If you're nervous about them taking more cash off you (as it has happened in the past) after your cancellation date, call them the day after you're cut off from viewing & get your direct debit cancelled with them over the phone.

Hope this has helped.. Though I don't know who'll actually read this advise.

Good luck all.
• How long have you worked for Setanta?

• Setanta is evil, had massive issues with them when subscribing through my digi box, mainly the fact that they cut off the boxing at 3, just as main event starts. Anyway i couldn't get it cancelled so just stopped the ddand barely heard from them since.

So despite my hate for them i need the boxingcoverage so signed up online, everything been hunky dory for 3 months until now, i cannot log on any more because it does not recogniose that i am in the uk, i had this response from Setanta.
Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your corporate network have assigned you an IP address not registered in the UK but from the overall bank of IP addresses which may be registered anywhere in the world.
Setanta by Broadband uses your IP address to determine where you are trying to access the content from.
We must use this system due to the nature of our broadcasting agreements which prohibit broadcasting the content outside of the country.

However alternatively it could be that your ISP has various proxy servers in different countries through which it routes its viewers. Depending on which proxy server the viewer is sent to, an IP address is dynamically assigned to this viewer from that server. If the server you are routed through for example only has North American or European IP addresses then this is what you as the viewer is given when you come to our pages. Because a new IP address is assigned every time a viewer connects to the Internet through their ISP and because an ISP can route you different locations each time (if they are a globally located ISP) then its possible that the IP address you have on one day will tell us that you are connecting from a different country than the previous day. This is something that the ISP controls and we cannot do anything about.

You should be able to refresh your internet connection by power cycling the router or modem. This should be done as many times as required to have an IP address that gives access to the service.

Can this really be true, i just can't buy it, why all of a sudden these problems, i havent changed provider or moved, anyone having the same problem or know if this is reasonable?

Any help would be much appreciated.

• After using the email address of the CEO and on the 3rd attempt of sending it to him, the first two had the subject line "cancel my subscription" which were both ignored the last was sub headed "Setanta on Watchdog" and this received a reply from Michael O Rourke on a Sunday night 15 minutes after sending.

I have since had a call from the directors office to assure me that I would be refunded two payments they had no right to take in the first place and that my account would indeed be cancelled.

After 7 phone calls where I was told to email and 8 emails that were ignored it seems the only way to get anywhere with these people is to go to the top. I may have even gone back to them if they hadn't behaved this way as I did after a 4 month break to my lovefilm subscription.

Its not an admin error when it seems the norm for this to carry on. The idiot Setanta employee two posts back who suggests the route to cancel is most likely clearly aware of the scam that their company is trying to pull on a daily basis.

Best advice all round is if you are having these problems write to the CEO and also email Watchdog as the more responses they get they will feature them on there "again" and to be fair they deserve every bit of bad press they get for the way they behave.

If you are stumbling across this and considering subscribing, my advice would be to give them a wide birth.

I would advise that you email SupportUK@setanta.tv with this problem, I have had the same problem when i use hotel / mobile broadband so yes it is reasonable. if you provide the ip addresss they may be able to unlock that.

With regard to the box at 3am issue, Setanta cut off time on Freeview is 3am and always has been. Occasionally they are able to get extensions to viewing. and recently have secured a permanent extention on a saturday night/sunday morning until 5am to ensure most boxing is covered.

hope this helps

So far my cancellation has gone well, the channels have now turned off. Just need to keep an eye on the bank statement to make sure they don't carry on charging me.
• Good news!

News today suggests that Setanta defaulted on a £10 Million STG payment due to the Football Association so as they're now in breach of contract, may have their matches stripped by the FA. They're already running over €100 million in debt, without English subscribers they're in big trouble. Unless everyone in Ireland and Scoland subscribes for Scottish football and the Magners League.
