Trying to cancel Setanta?!

  • Setanta got a real going over on BBC Radio 5 Live a week or two ago. The cancellation issue did come up.

If you go here : http://setanta.com/en/UK/Contact-Us/ and select satellite and "cancellation enquiries" you get the following
You can now cancel your Setanta subscription via email by giving 30 days notice from your next billing date.

I am not sure if they will still ignore/lose your email mind. Also the T&Cs don't seem to state this. So use it at your own risk!
Having said that Setanta CS originally said that my subscription would not be cancelled until Oct 7th as that was 60 days after they processed my letter.

However my subscription has been turned off 60 days after receiving my letter.

Maybe, just maybe, the PR shoeing they have received over the last month is having an effect and they are changing their ways before their business is damaged beyond repair.

Either way i am happy smile.gif I'm FREEEEEEEE. FREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

  • I phoned Setanta to cancel and was offered 3 months for £6.50 per month (using 0191 501 3482 number) so perhaps a sign of numbers ringing to leave this cowboy outfit:rolleyes:
  • further to above message from batch_2001 I too was amazed to see them now say they were accepting e-mail cancellations and that the notice period had gone back to 30 days ( I guessed they must have been listening to the criticism and negative publicity)
I e- mailed them but needless to say have had no response, and the option has already disappeared from their "contact us" section.
As far as I'm concerned, they've had their notice, after one more payment I'll cancel my dd!
  • Blimey, they removed that "cancel by email" from contact us a bit quickly didn't they! And the T&Cs still say 2 months written notice if I read them corerctly.

If anyone has tried to cancel by email I'd be backing that up in writing ASAP (recorded delivery).

My Update - Yesterday I got a "you have missed a payment" letter., on phoning it turns out my service was cut off due to cancellation of the direct debit. They still had cut-off date as 7th October. But the CS rep sorted it out without extra cost by pulling my cancellation date forward (because the letter was sent in July before my July payment was due). All done in 2 minutes, so credit where credit is due.

Anyway, once bitten twice shy. It'll be a while before I go back - if ever.
  • I phoned to cancel my setanta today completely unaware this was all going on. I pay by debit card once per year. When I phoned today they told me my card was out of date and would require my new card details but I told them I was cancelling they said in order for me to cancel they would have to take my new card details before they would transfer me to the cancellations dept. I did not have my debit card to hand at the time and told them I would call back. I came on here just to see if anyone was chatting about prices and find all this out about the hassles of cancelling. Wonder if I just leave it they will cut me off as they wont be able to take the payment. ?

Can anyone advise what I should be paying if I was to take it back out my charges last year were £180 for my first box and £90 for my multiroom via sky.

    Thanks

    Lisa
  • I've only just joined and thought I won't be like so many of you by being totally conned & ripped off from the out set.

I've just received my Welcome Letter & there are discrepencies in the payment section of £21.98

I ordered over the telephone the offer of 3 months free subscription with a £14.99 initial connection fee. This happened on the 10.9.09 & on the 12.09.08 £36.97 was taken out of my account which you can see isn't the correct amount.

I've just spoken to customer services to have this recitified & was rudely cut off & I wasn't dealt with in a manner that a customer services dept works. Also that no Supervisors or Managers work after 5pm.

I may just go straight to a solicitor to have this sorted out.
  • Hiya! I just want to clarify a few things here. Firstly i do agree that Setanta Sports customer servcies are a absolute shambles! In reply to your msg where you said that supervisors/managers go home at 5pm. This is absolutely a load of nonsese. The reason that i know this is because i work for setanta sports, and my managers/supervisors dont go home until about 9pm. I work in the cancellation dept and we close at 9pm. Secondly, the correct email address for cancelling is ::

requests@setanta.com and you still do have to give 30 days notice from your next billing date.

I dont want to be nasty to setanta sports, but the way that they operate is all wrong, the cust services are a load of s**t. They have not got a clue on how to do there job. Im not giving myself a big head or anything, but my group on the cancellations dept are bloody good at doing there job!!!!!

So please people give us a break when you come through to us, becuase its not our fault that you all have been misinformed/spoken rudely to or been hung up on. We are trying to help you all as best as we can.

Hope this doesnt fall on deaf ears when i say, but please consider what i have said.

    Thanks

    Setanta Employee

    0191 501 3482 - it works great, got through after 2 rings :j

Just phoned to ask progress on cancellation. They had received my recorded delivery letter (sent 7th August) and were processing the cancellation. I won't hold my breath though until I get final confirmation though.

But ignore the letters and emails they send you to keep you tied to them. Once you do what your obliged to do, don't budge an inch.

In regards to your cancellation, you wont get a reply from setanta confiring your cancellation date. you have to call up for it. I know this becuase im in the cancellation dept and i have tried to send out confirmation to cust's but head office just say that cust have to write to newry for confirmation of cancellation! So if you want confirmation that bad, then you will need to write to head office. Absolutely ridiculous dont u think?

    Thanks

What probably has happened here, is that the order that you wanted placed has not been placed correctly.

If you call the number in one of these posts (0191) we will be able to help you out the best we can.

That £36.97 is the connection fee (£14.99)and 2 lots of £10.99 (freeview monthly subscription).

    Thanks
