I am now writing to say that this letter is being sent by recorded delivery and if you do not respond immediately I shall be reporting you to Oftel, Trading Standards, Advertising Trading Standards and other relevant bodies including Watchdog and make following charges against you......

Just as an aside, OFTEL (The office for the regulation of telecommunications companies - BT, Virgin, Orange, Voda etc) merged with several other government bodies to become OFCOM several years ago. ;)
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
  • I think a few things are key when you're trying to cancel.

Email the list of people I provided earlier; writing to Stuart Brodie (Head of Customer Disservice) may help too. make sure everyone knows that everyone else is getting a copy.

Threat of legal action. Harassment, extortion, fraud... take your pick.

I haven't received any more texts/personal letters since my service was switched off. I did get one circular though which went straight into the recycling.

There's just a prob with the quotes in Amanda's post. It was actually johnpb78 who started the group - see post #404.
  • Finally :rotfl::j :T

After several phone calls, a letter which they denied receiving, emails to customer services, managing director, chief executives, directors and anybody else I could find (none of which I received a response from) I have spoken to Sh#tanta again this morning and they have confirmed that my viewing will be switched off on the 30th July.

After the runaround and other people's problems on here, and other threads I should be forgiven for doubting their integrity and asked for the operators name as reference come 30th July when it likely transpires they have not cancelled it as promised. He told me that it was Owen from Sunderland but wouldn't give out his surname. I pressed him further and he then gave me a case note number that he says he has noted on my account.

Here's hoping this is the end of my troublesome journey and good look to everybody else experiencing similar problems. Just for reference over recent weeks I have used the premium rate numbers and spent up to 20-30 minutes each time in hold. Today I used another number from www.saynoto0870.com I got through immediately and seemingly got the answer I wanted.

    The number I used was 0191 501 3482 Good luck !!!

I've noticed a couple of people asking for the Sunderland number. Please see my earlier post above which shows the number I called.

After experiencing the same problems as the rest of you I eventually phoned this number and can confirm that my viewing was stopped as promised on July 30th as promised and no further payments have been taken.

    Hope this helps.
  • I called them 08703200024. they f**king talked and kept me on hold for 5 mins plus b4 transferring me to cancellation dept. Then i put a request for cancellation(June end). They said send a letter to that effect. I did that .. a month later (July End) found another hit on my credit card for 13 £ .. Called them to check and they say they havent recd the letter .. i say !!!!!! .. not my problem ... cancel it right now .. and they say Nope we need letter "Clause XXX of contract".

I ask them, you can subscribe to setanta on WEB or Telephone instantly .. using the fastest medium of communication, so why should cancellation be done by post using slowest means of communication. May aswell ask people to personally deliver the cancellation requests in the deepest corner of the country as a cancellation policy ...that would be slower / costlier than post.
No answer there. (the guy smiles - surely he likes my joke as i pay him to listen to it).

I decide to forget this & send them another letter. A month later another hit of 13 £. This time i call (August end) and they say they have recd the letter but they will calculate 60 days from the day the letter was recd and as per their calculation my a/c will be cancelled on October 18th !!!!

Now i was livid ... I ask them what makes them think I will pay them another two months for the service i dont even have.... they say they dont care if i have the service or not, but the last payment will be in October.

Hey whoo ... this will be the first company I am filing a case against... Not leaving these people with easy money ...

Dont know which Slum lord won a lottrey and became a stakeholder in this company, but this company is all about ripping off money ... Beware DONT JOIN SETANTA ... EVER ..NOT EVEN BY MISTAKE .. .
  • 0191 501 3482 - it works great, got through after 2 rings :j

Just phoned to ask progress on cancellation. They had received my recorded delivery letter (sent 7th August) and were processing the cancellation. I won't hold my breath though until I get final confirmation though.

But ignore the letters and emails they send you to keep you tied to them. Once you do what your obliged to do, don't budge an inch.
  • Just got an email saying I had to give 60 days notice again...

    So phoned 0191 501 3482 - and again, got through after 2 rings :j

Got someone called Stephen who was actually very helpful - got everything sorted out (although I'll watch my bank account, just in case).
  • extract from setanta email:
''cancellations can be carried out after the first months subscription with a minimum period of 60 days cancellation notice either by calling the Customer Services team on 08712 003322 between 9am and 9pm, seven days a week or in writing''

So I rang - after over 40minutes was then told ONLY in WRITING !
So I wrote recorded letter saying was cancelling due to their breach of contract (they had promised to charge me £7.50 for 6 months but took full amount ) and cancelled direct debit from our joint account.

A month later (today) they have attempted to take the direct debit from my second bank account, which never had a DD mandate setup. I have reported them to the bank fraud line who have refunded the £12.99.

Now just waiting for the shower of sh*ts at Setanta to contact me. And i intend to make it as difficult as they do, including passing around the office, putting hold for minutes at a time, talking in a whisper to pretend its a bad line.
  • Sounds like everyone is having trouble with Setanta.

I actually work for a Setanta call centre, so if anyone is having any trouble with trying to cancel their account feel free to send me private messages and i can help you out/advise you...obviously for privacy reasons i cant give out my name...but i can try help you out the best i can.

Even as a Setanta employee i have to say that the cancellation fiasco is a complete joke.
