I have eventually managed to cancel Setanta by emailing their customer services. I got a reply 2 dys after mine to them acknowledging the fact that i want to cancel. I presumed that it would be cancelled from that day but no, it will be cancelled thirty days from my billing date. Luckily i timed it right and wont be charged an extra month. Just so other folk will be aware of their tactics.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I want to cancel Setanta (don't want a reduced rate as there's nothing I want to watch on it now) so do I just call the 0191 number mentioned above or do I need to email them also..?
If I need to email them, does anyone know the email address..? (I'm just being lazy as don't want to read the previous 20+ pages)

Cheers,
Max.

I phoned the 0191 number and all that did was give me the 0870 number.
i eventually emailed their customer services and did it through them
Like i said in my earlier post, they cancell it 30 days from the billing date and not from the time you email them

I got my letter through today and had to query something in it - called on the 0191 501 3482 number at 8.30 pm and it was answered within 3 rings.

Might not have cancelled, but my monthly payments have come down from £15 to £13 and I'm getting it for £6.50 for the next 3 months. :)
• I've made 4 phone calls and sent to e-mail to which I got the following response...

"Your message has encountered delivery problems
to the following recipient(s):

Sent: **** **** LAST
Received:*** *.*.* Unable to accept message because the server is out of disk space."

I'm guess there are two many people cancelling and the server can't handle it. I'm getting close to just cancelling the Direct Debit. Screw Setanta, they suck!!

Setanta customer service is non-existant. I am currently in a fight to get back £60 from them, they tried to fob me off telling me to go to my bank. Told them they are responsible. Even sent in proof of charges by recorded delivery as requested it was signed for.

I called them to cancel in April 08 girl said would cancel and for me to call back to confirm. I told her I would not cancel DD until I knew all payments owed had been taken. I called in May 08 to confirm cancellation girl told me no cancellation had been put through and that I would have to do it again. Told them don't think so and spoke to a supervisor, basically did not hang up until she cancelled it there and then. She eventually cancelled it. No further funds were to be paid the Setanta but they took £10 from the bank account and as a consequence mortgage was not paid so £30 charge and also £30 charge from bank.

Spoke to consumer direct whom helped me and logged it as a complaint with trading standards now have to go to C advice as they are ingnoring letters as before.

They never respond to your letters even when sent recorded delivery. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS APPAULING.

If you can watch the Watchdog programme about them there are thousands of people complaining about them.

WILL NEVER EVER DEAL WITH AGAIN:mad:

• Just got off the phone to the 0191 501 5482 number, they told me I should cancel Sky sports and not Setanta. Told them I was keeping that and wanted Setanta gone so they offered me Setanta for £9.99 for the next 12 months. When I refused that they said I have to give them confirmation in writing and gave me the requests@setanta.com to write to.

They also said thats its 30 days notice from my billing date notice i have to give which is the 1st of the month so i've got to keep it for longer than I want. I've sent them an e-mail telling them I want to cancel and will stop the direct debit from the 1st of feb.

I will let you know if it gets canceled okay, but im not holding my breath!

!
we have done this and they are still claiming they haven't recieved the email. We have cancelled our direct debit and not sure if i can be bothered to send a recorded letter. they will not cancel your account over the phone, my hubby has tried 3 times and they say you can only cancel by email or in writing, complete joke.
