Trying to cancel Setanta?!

  • We sent a letter trying to cancel back in september and cancelled our direct debit. Setanta set up another account which we were not aware of and they say as we haven't cancelled that account we owe £10.99. They are threatening to past our " outstanding debit " to a debt collecting agent !!

Please please can someone offer me some advise?

Write to them again, enclosing a copy of the letter you sent in September 2008. Send your letter recorded delivery, that way you'll have proof that it was delivered to Setanta and that someone signed for the mail.
  • Thanks for the reply.

Tried that. Wrote letter back in early Jan and enclosed all paperwork. sent Special delivery. Problem I have is that because of the second account been set up without my knowledge they are saying that I only cancelled one account and I owe money on the other account as I have not cancelled that account. I didn't even know the account number untill I received an over due letter.

It should be on any letter they have sent you. If you still can't find it give them a ring.
  • I just called Setanta today to find out how to cancel my subscription. I was on hold for around 10 minutes and got through to a lady, who was very polite. She advised me I had to send an email to requests@setanta.com advising them that I wanted to cancel my subscription and said I must include my address, customer number and name. This has been done and I am awaiting their reply. I will keep you posted!
  • I called setanta to cancel months ago and was told my account was up to date and was now cancelled, however, i got a rather rude phone call yesterday asking for payment (my credit card was maxed out) i explained i had cancelled months ago and the fact i can no longer receive the channels lead me to believe everything was in order, the operator then said in order to cancel i had to settle the account and then send an email to cancel even though i have not been receiving the channels for months?!, i eventually got so fed up explaining my point i had to hang up (i hate to argue!) but i can rest easy knowing that these charlatans surely cant keep going for much longer and sky sports can once again take back full coverage like they used to! (black and yellow graphics??, hmmm)
  • My husband signed up to Setanta 1 on Freeview in the mistaken belief that he could watch rugby. He can but only once a month as the main rugby games are on Sky! Now trying to cancel but emails keep being stopped by the Postmaster at Teleperformance. Has anyone else had this problem? Finally manged to get through to customer services by email. They say they will reply in 5 days! meanwhile we'll send off our recorded delivery letter. What an outfit.
  • We were getting nowhere with trying to unsubscribe from Sentanta with emails to requests@setanta being blocked. However after firing off the same email to the addresses you gave we had replies within the hour confirming that no monies were owing and that our subscription would endthe day before our D/D was due. We also had a very apologetic email from Michael O'Rourke! Thank you for all this really helpful information.

I cancelled by emailing requests@ and also one of the email addresses provided by Rivierakid.

I was quite polite but stated I wished to cancel and would not be interested in continuing my subscription regardless of price.

The direct email address got a response within minutes confirming they acknowledged my request. I've just got back from lunch and I've got an email from their escalations department "Directors Office" confirming that no further payments will be taken and my subscription will be cancelled on the 14th of this month.

Excellent. Really dreaded cancelling it due to horror stories on numerous forums but it's turned out OK.
