Trying to cancel Setanta?!
Comments
-
I wrote to the Sunderland address about 3 weeks ago (rec delivery) and until today heard nothing back. I was contemplating cancelling my c/c just to stop them taking any more money. However, I got a phone call from them this morning asking me why I wanted to cancel. When I told the (nosey but polite) guy I was emigrating it seemed to take him 'off script' and he didn't put up any more of a struggle. Won't be celebrating until I get next months c/c statement to confirm but it looks like I might have shaken them off.0

Setanta Sports, Dept. 8544, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, SR9 9XZ.
Send the letter 1st class recorded & that'll be £1.08.
They will ( at least according to their own T & C's) cancel your subscription 30 days from receiving your letter. Of course that means 1 final payment will be due in that period.
Good luck with it, hope you shake 'em off...!!!fedupconsumer wrote: »

Anyone know which is the right/best cancellation address to use?0 -

It is confusing i must admit but the correct address is the Sunderland address. It used to be the Kirkcaldy, Fife address but then Setanta changed it.
My first cancellation letter was sent to Kirkcaldy on 14/04 but it was about that time that they moved the goalposts by changing the addresss. Did send a letter on the 25/05 to Sunderland that at last they replied to & finally now i've stopped getting pictures from Setanta.
Needless to say i'll not be using them again.0 -

You have the advantage of having your Setanta through BTVision - you're lucky you don't need to deal with Setanta's lack of customer service like the rest of us.0 -
Further to my earlier post I have now received following email from beloved Setanta (no less than 12 days after I emailed then requesting a cancellation)
Here is a new address to add to the equation:
"Thank you for your e-mail.
I am sorry to hear that you no longer wish to subscribe to Setanta Sports.
To cancel your subscription you can put your request in writing to the following address:
Setanta Sports
PO Box 182
The Quays
Newry
BT35 5AT"
Have already cancelled cc and put payments into dispute. Do this as this if you pay by cc the relationship is with cc company not you (and they don't like it when you put payments into dispute as work for them).
We need to get some press onto this. Does anyone know any contacts? I've tried 5 live but to no avail..
We need to get message that Setanta are:
a) deliberately not taking cancellation calls (putting you on hold on a premium line and cutting you off
b) not responding within their own quoted timescales
There is a news story here and we need to get some coverage. Can Martin help us?:money:0 -
Your best bet is the written press with the exception of any NewsCorp owned papers (Sun, Times, NOTW, Sunday Times). BBC, ITV, C4, 5 and Sky-related investigative programmes won't be too keen to get involved since there'd be a possible conflict of interest.
I know a few people fired off e-mails to other newspapers, and there were a few things posted in the last couple weeks.
I might be tempted to relive my student days as a journalist of my uni newspaper and knock out something and see which of the dailies are interested.
I have yet to hear anything about my cancellation, yet I'm still enjoying Setanta Sports coverage despite cancelling my DD. It can only be time before the avalanche of letters.0 -
We had the same kind of nonsense from AOL a couple of years
ago. Repeated attempts to take our money which we repeatedly
disputed, for broadband to a dead phone line on a house we no
longer lived in.
The key is to recognize that there is no morality in such people,
they will take until you stop them, debating with them is pointless.0 -
Good point re: fact that competitor (sports) media organisations may not want to be seen "points scoring" but I do thinkSetanta deserve some adverse publicity. Any help in firing off emails and letters appreciated.0

The Mirror might be interested in following-up their original story, if complaints persist? Their e-mail address is mirrornews@mirror.co.uk .
They featured complaints about Setanta on 24/5/2008:
"Setanta angers fans trying to cancel"

What is the exact Sunderland address?
I am beginning my cancellation quest. It is a long and arduous journey. Wish me luck. Thanks.*removed by forumteam - please do not advertise in signatures*0
