Trying to cancel Setanta?!
Comments

was shocked to find on here just how many people are having trouble with this company... it is disgusting how they can treat us like this and how they are getting away with it. i have had the same problem as everyone else endless phone calls, been cut off, bad manerism of employers....
eventually after 2 days of trying i was told i can not cancel over phone or via email, and instead have to send them a letter.. im sending it via recorded delivery first thing in the morning so fingers crossed its the end of my ordeal with them.. although from what iv heard on here i wont be suprised if its not.
By the way. is it true you cant cancel over the phone? is this what they have told the rest of you guys? or if anyone has any good advice as to what i should do in the meantime it is all gratefully excepted as i am fuming!!!
 I SHALL BE WRITING A COMPLAINT, CONTACTING WATCHDOG, AND DEFINATLY NOT BE SUBSCRIBING WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN. DISGUSTED0 -
well after the flurry of text messeges asking to call them, I still have no idea if my account is cancelled as I have not recieved any notification
however I noticed when flicking thru I was still recieving a signal a month after they signed for the letter at Kirkcaldy.
As I have cancelled my direct debit through my bank and know they recievd my letter they are not getting any more out of me.
DOubt I will ver use this company again.

Sooner or later, I think Setanta will come to regret not complying with peoples' wishes. Sky has a dominant position in the market for premium sports subscribers, so a smaller number of consumers are likely to be attracted to subscribing to Setanta, in my view, and many of the most easily persuaded will already be on-board.
To make a success of the venture, I think they will need to sell subscriptions in the future, to those whose are struggling to have their cancellation wishes observed, and will pay a price for the ill-feeling they are generating.
My consolation for the problems I'm experiencing with Setanta, is that they haven't actually received any money that they were not due, because I cancelled the direct debit in good time, and that ultimately I believe they are "shooting themselves in the foot"!0 -

Some of you may be aware of my ealier posts re Setanta (page 7 of this thread), i have today fired off another letter to them and i would appreciate any thoughts on it, and perhaps suggesions of where i go from here:

RECORDED DELIVERY
Mr Stuart Brodie, Head of Customer Services
Setanta Sports
PO BOX 182
NEWRY

(copy of letter also sent to PO BOX 200, Kirkcaldy, Fife)
Dear Sirs,
Account name: xxxxxxxx
Address: xxxxxxx
Account Number: xxxxx
I refer to the above account and to the previous 7 emails (copies of which can be provided if necessary), 4 letters(sent to your offices in Newry, Fife and Pacific Key, Glasgow (copies of which can be provided if necessary) and 2 phones calls made in connection with this matter.
Due to the fact that none of my letters seem to have been dealt with our even received I will again state my grievance in this matter. I originally contacted yourselves on 01 April 2008 by email to state that i was cancelling my direct debit due to the fact that since signing up over 7 months ago i have been unable to watch a single match due to poor picture quality and a lack of signal. On occassion when i do receive a signal the picture sticks every few seconds making the channel unwatchable. i have phoned your offices on several occassion with regards to this and you have have tried to send further signals. I beleive I should have been advised long ago that there is no point in me paying £9.99 for a channel i cant watch, but at no time either on the phone or by letter has your officed advised me that I should simply cancel my Direct Debit or at the very least discussed futher options with me. I received no reply to this email so again sent another on the 14 April 2008, to which no reply was received. I then on 15 April 2008 contacted your offices in Newry by telephone and advised of my dissatisfaction at not having received a reply to email or at the very least an acknowledgemet to it, whereupon i was by one of your Customer Service team that there was a backlog of over 2,000 emails in your system and i should contact yourselves by letter. I followed these instructions and wrote to yourselves on 21 April 2008 again at all three offices in Newry, Kirkcaldy and Glasgow only to receive a standard/generic letter from yourselves on 29 April which ludicrusly stated "I hope that you are enjoying your veiwing" and regearding the Direct Debit which I had purposly cancelled and informed you of my actions the letter stated "we appreciate this may have been an oversight on your part " and "please contact us within 10 days to clear any outstanding balance." To address this matter I contacted your Customer Services Team yesterday, 22 May 2008 on 08700 50 69 80, who advised me that according to your records I have "no outstanding balance".
While I appreciate some matters cannot be resolved in a matter of weeks, the lack of communication from yourselves and shoddy customer service has left me very frustrated and angry at the blatant disrespect for your customers. Hopefully this matter can now be resolved and I look forward to receiving a full refund for my original connection price of £19.99 and subsequent of £9.99 monthly.

Just got a missed call and a then a voice messege on my mobile.
I was asked to give them a call back on 0871 200 3322. Apperently they sent me a letter which was returned and they want to confirm me address.
Thing is, in my emails and letters that I sent to cancel I informed them that I was moving and no longer needed their services, adn if they wanted to write to me they could do and included my NEW address.
They have clearly sent it to my OLD address and the current residents have popped it back in the box marked return to sender.
I have cancelled in writting, cancelled DD. They are now trying to contact me at the old address. If they could just read my letter and emails they would know what I wanted and where I was.

Article today in The Mirror:Sports Tv network Setanta is facing an angry backlash from viewers trying to cancel their subscriptions now the football season is over.
The broadcaster is accused of moving the goalposts to make it harder for people to quit and more expensive to sign up again if they do.Fans on websites such as digitalspy have been complaining bitterly, branding the firm's customer service a shambles. .....

might be an idea then to shoot a letter of complaint to the mirror then, especially those of us who took setanta because of the £1 for 2 months offer back in november that was promoted by the mirror.0

Yes i got that message too. Felt a bit intimidated by that one. A day later they rung me to ask me back. I say ask me back it was more like beg me to come back.
" We're sorry, it was our mistake. Please come back on what we originally offered you- £5 a month for the next 3 months. "
To be fair though the guy that rang me was very apologetic. And he admitted that Setanta made a billing mistake.
But at the back of my mind i can't help thinking that all these billing mistakes are a big part of Setantas business plan (nudge, nudge). No way will i be passing on any of my banking details to that bunch of crooks.
After 5 minutes of begging me to sign up, i said "No chance. I'm sorry."0
