I was sent on a merry go round by setanta too. Signed up end November for a £1 for 2 months deal. I cancelled within the cancellation period but was then charged £9.99. I would have called a hundred times and each time they confirmed the service was cancelled, 2 days later, i would get a post confirming I've renewed the service. In March, i received an apology and a cheque for £9.99. Can anything get worse, it sure can with Setanta. The cheque bounced and I've just left it at that since as I reckon I am likely to get more pain than £9.99 if I continue to hound them.

I sent my cancellation letter to the Kirkaldy, Fife address on the 14th april, this was before i knew about the Newry, co. Down address, but i'm still expecting to be turned off next week, i sent it recorded & they did get, but they sent out no response & no phone call to me to confirm or to persuade me to return. Why should it make a difference where the letter arrives as, surely, Setanta use the same customer account database regardless of where their offices are..? As long as i provide correct customer account details & address they should be able to deal with that letter, wouldn't you think..?
A letter to Ofcom i think might be in the offing shortly.

Was on the "3 months @ £5pm" offer and telephoned today to cancel. I was given the same offer for another 3 months - seemed silly not to accept.

For cancellations it has always been the Newry address (as it's always stated on the T&Cs). Kirkcaldy was for refunds and some complaints, which meant letters having to be resent, or scanning and e-mails sent to over for them to deal with, adding to the time it takes for the right people to get the information and do what needed to be done.

My Setanta welcome letter, dated Jan 10th 2008, has no mention of the Newry, co. Down address in neither the T&C'S on the back of the letter nor on the letter itself. The Kirkcaldy, Fife address is on both sides.

I have to say that Setanta are truly crap. I paid my subscription to start some months ago, accepted that I needed to bite the bullet and pay the one off joining fee. After a couple of months, I decided that I didn't want the service any longer so wrote to them to cancel - forgetting to copy or save the letter... I received a phone call a few days later after the direct debit failed to say that the direct debit had been cancelled, and that they needed a payment of £9.99 to clear the account. I paid this by debit card. About two weks later, after the payment had cleared, I noticed that there was a further payment by debit card for the same amount. I too received the letter saying thank you and goodbye, then one saying welcome to Setanta... Several emails later, and I am still no further forward. They say that I have paid the correct amount now, but I disagree. As the call charges are high, I refuse to pay to stay on hold for this period of time... All in all, I am down £9.99 and Setanta will not cough up... Don't go there, keep an exact record of what has been sent, and what has been paid. If you don't you only have yourself and Setanta's disregard for customer service to blame...

They know that the Premier League season is over so a lot of people will be wanting to either cancel or suspend their subscription. Hence the no help over the phone, over the internet & the ever changing address for cancelling the service over the post. Don't you think its because they want to tie you in for the foreseeable..? Avoid contact with the customer & that way we keep them signed up.
To my mind its a bad business practice on their part because i would have been perfectly happy to re-subscribe in september to have the footie again next season...but not after all this nonsense. I'd now be more than happy just to go down the pub when a game is on that i want to watch.
