This might be just me being a bit mischevious,so forgive me.

If they ever rang me up i'd keep them on the line saying something like " Please wait, one of our operators will be with you very shortly..." and then 30 seconds later "We're sorry for the delay but due to the popularity of this phone number all of our operators right now are busy, but please continue to hold and we'll get to you shortly..."

This is a family website so i'll just say that Setanta customer services are a bunch of ***** !

:) you forgot the most annoying of all...... "you're call is important to us" !

Good idea though, keep em on as long as possible, rack up their phone bill for a change

i had setanta multiroom, and wanted to cancel 1 room, after numerous phone calls where i couldnt get thru i cancelled my direct debit via online banking, setanta were then quick enough to phone me and said i couldnt cancel it via the bank but had to phone them and cancel it,which i tried to but couldnt get thru, they then reinstated my direct debit(isnt this illegal?)so where do i stand now?

That's not possible. Your details are protected in that, once entered, your a/c number is starred out to reveal the last 4 numbers only (same with your Visa/Mastercard number, if you pay by card). If Setanta Sports receive instruction from your bank that you have cancelled the direct debit, the details are removed, and if you're account is active, then you will be contacted to set up new details. If the account remains active and no details are given and invoices are unpaid, an embargo will be placed on your account, stopping your services.

The only way to reinstate the direct debit would be to re-enter all of your details into the system. Given that someone wouldn't have the first 4 digits, it would be impossible for this to be done, without someone giving an advisor the details.

And you can cancel your direct debit via your bank, it just doesn't cancel your subscription to Setanta Sports.

If your subscription is still active, and wish to cancel you will need to write in to the address in Newry (best sent recorded delivery) given in an earlier post above, or try calling in again, between the opening times of 9am-9pm.
i can assure you it is possible as it has happened,i have 2 direct debits with setanta,as it was multiroom its 1 dd of £10 for main box,and another of £5 for multiroom,i cancelled the £5 one with the bank, both came from the same bank account

In which case, I would say that Setanta Sports have not received the cancellation instruction request from your bank, which is why it was active.

As I said, if you have cancelled, and Setanta Sports have received the request, all of your details are removed - they cannot be retrieved by an advisor. They would need to manually input them again, and they would have to be validated to be correct.

It's not even a case that the details could have been copied from your main account, because again, the first 4 numbers of your account number would be missing.

If however, you're paying on a Visa debit card, and not a direct debit as such, then that could be why, because many banks say thay they cannot cancel such agreements.
but they phoned me up and told mei couldnt cancel via the bank so they got the cancellation alright
