I don't hate you TheDoctor84 & i'm pretty sure everyone else on here doesn't hate you as it makes for an interesting & vibrant discussion if someone is putting forward the case for Setanta.
So thanks for your contribution. You are as you say only doing a job & i worked in a call centre about 7 years ago and i'm not afraid to say it but i couldn't hack it.
When i rang Setanta & the assistant offered me 2 months for £5 per month, that much to my regret now i accepted, when checking my credit card and the normal £9.99 fee was applied, was that down to operator error, or down to complications regarding the Setanta billing system or can you tell me if it there is a Setanta policy to deliberately mislead when it comes to monthly billing..?0 -
Cancelled my DD as they repeatedly took out money not on agreed date and I was getting OD charges, sent e-mail cancelling subs and giving 30 days. Didn't even get reply. They only called me after they couldn't get their money. They wanted me to pay them back and continue. My advice LEAVE SETANTA WELL ALONE not heard from them for a couple of months got a call from them today ignored it. No help to anyone but glad I am not the only one. Thought it was just me, but proves Setanta have no customer service principals at all. Happy to share it and get it off my chest. Thanks0

Perhaps, but the damage is already done.
There are a lot of things that i don't like about Setanta & a lot of posters on this thread don't like about Setanta but it is interesting if someone comes on here with the point of view of the company.
For example, they'll keep you on the cancellations line for over an hour, yet when you ring up to sign up you get straight through.
They seem to have an unneccessarily complicated billing system with many people on a seperate tariff.
They often have no record of you having rung them up the last time if you are lucky enough to get through this time. Messages/ payment instructions seem to disappear.
Have you tried reading the Setanta T & conditions on the back of your Setanta introductory letter...? It's a pale grey print on a parchment coloured paper & impossible to read without a magnifying glass.
Too much about this company is quite simply Evasive...0 -
I sent my letter to an address in Fife and my Setanta was cancelled even with 2 weeks still to go.
Also cancelled the direct debit with the bank so grubby Setanta couldn't take any more money.0 -
Hi guys,
newbie here having an absolute nightmare with setanta. Hope someone can help!!. i paid £9.99 on the 28th of january i also phoned to cancel on that date. I was offered £5 p/m for 3 months. i was told that would take me to the 28th may. That made sense with the £5 deal kicking in end of feb as i'd already paid till then. i phoned to cancel for real on the 28th april and was told my april payment was to be £9.99 and that it had already been requested. I cancelled, none too happy, and immediately cancelled my d/d. turns out the payment hadn't went through and they now want £9.99. They say when i got the £5 deal my first payment was "rolled in" to my £9.99 payment on 28th jan. I was not told of this and surely it can't be right as the payment was already pending in my bank account when i phoned to cancel! Now they are threatening "action" against me. Is there anything i can do?
Cheers,
zaf

I rang to cancel in January and they offered me £5 a month for 3 months then after 2 months they started charging £10 a month again and when I rang up the CS person couldn't understand it and told me to write a letter. So I cancelled it and cancelled my direct debit - screw their final payment if they can't explain why they took £10 out in the last month instead of £5Our dream has come true...0

Hi, thanks for the advice you have offered here.
I wondered if you could help me too.
I had taken out the 2months for £1 deal on 26th November 2007 and when i rang to cancel on 16th January, was offered 3 further months at £5 per month.
I was told to cancel by 26th March so as not to have any further payments.
When i called on this date i was told my payment date had moved and i would have to pay £9.99 to cover 1 week from 18th to 25th April.
I had not been informed at the time that my payment date had been moved so don't feel i should pay this money.
After that call i cancelled my DD and posted a letter stating my case and background to it.
My signal was cut on 18th April as per my billing date and i never recieved the further weeks viewing.
I have since received 2 letters asking to reinstate the DD and Setanta have called 3 times during the day while i am at work. My wife has told them on each occasion to call back after 6pm but they haven't done so.
As it was the fault of the advisor in not telling me that the date had changed should i not be free from paying the money?
Also how far will this go before the threat of debt collection/blacklisting appears?0 -
This threat of "debt collection/blacklisting" is a form of business bullying, tactics usually employed by unscrupilous companies to rattle yet more money out of decent people who haven't done anything wrong, & don't be taken in by it.
It seems like the common complaint on here is a reduced offer was made & accepted by the customer, usually on the telephone, then the original higher payment charge was applied, customer takes exception to being conned like this & wants to terminate agreement straight away. Just seems like bad business practice to me by Setanta. But how is the customer at fault..?
BBC Watchdog have received loads of complaints about Setanta but are unlikely to intervene/ investigate because it is not in their remit/ charter to investigate tv companies due to the potentially obvious criticism regarding a conflict of interest.0 -

I wouldnt write them off, several people from here have been contacted by Watchdog regarding this and their stories documented. I doubt they'd do that if they never intended to at least look at it.0
