    Guys

A revolution is needed i've had my moans about a month or so on this site and have managed to get rid of setanta thank the lord! We all know how poor the company is and people need to start trying to get national attention to call them to account. I emailed watchog for example and have had no reply. It would be great if more people started to do the same and they might get the hint as to how bad setanta are!!I'm sure setanta would want to be featured on a national tv programme witha large audience.

Anyway I've sent a recorded delivery cancellation letter to the Sunderland address after not being able to get through on the phone.
Ironically, TheDoctor84 was indicating that Setanta/their contractor were unsympathetic to cancellations being made to the address that appeared in earlier contracts (Kirkcaldy, Fife) and considered there was no obligation to individually notify customers that the contact address had changed.

Yet, now it seems that customers are being advised by Setanta to write to an address in Sunderland, which isn't the address in the current contract!

My first letter to Setanta- seemingly unactioned in more than a month- went recorded delivery to PO Box 800, Kirkcaldy, Fife. Having subsequently cancelled the direct debit, I've been asked to complete a new direct debit instruction and "then return the instruction to: Setanta Sports, PO Box 800, Kirkcaldy, Fife, KY2 6WF". The envelope their letter came in states "If undelivered please return to: PO Box 200, Kirkcaldy ......"

So, it seems that addresses in Kirkcaldy remain active; therefore if they are receiving cancellation letters in Kirkcaldy along with other mail, what are they doing with it?

just a general question really to anyone but would it be worthwhile writing to the broadcasting watchdog regulator committee ofcom..?

I've sent emails to BBC Watchdog that have met with no reply but i feel that they might be reluctant to investigate "shennanigans" commited by a fellow broadcaster such as Setanta.

I have a feeling that i'll get shot down for this but whenever i've contacted Sky about changing my package i've never had any problem. Every year i get rid of the full Sky package around may to then in september get the whole lot again, saves me 3 x £45...never had a problem with either downgrading & then upgrading.

This lot though you can't get rid of, like something nasty on the sole of your shoe when you've been out walking & whatever you do you just can't get shut of it...

I've written to Setanta, asking them to explain where my cancellation letter to the Kirkcaldy address has subsequently gone, given that it was sent recorded delivery, signed for, and apparently not then actioned?

The questions that I think may need answers established are:

-are they /do they intend to process cancellations that are received in Kirkcaldy?; what obligation do they have to inform customers individually if they have changed their address subsequent to entering in to a contract; what addresses are they accepting mail at?; where is the mail subsequently going?

If mail is going unanswered and/or cannot be located, despite proof of delivery, then I think it's reasonable to ask whether personal information is being handled in compliance with the Data Protection Act.

If I cannot resolve the issue satisfactorily with Setanta, then I may ask the Information Commissioners office for advice.

Also had problems trying to cancel with Setanta. Spent 45mins trying to get through the other day - guy in the "Loyalty" team told me there's been 40 people in the queue all day, blamed it on the end of the football season, then told me I had to write in to cancel.

As you can imagine, wasn't best pleased to waste 45mins x 4p just to be told to write in, was told I wouldn't be refunded for all the time I'd wasted on the phone, and if I wanted to complain I could send a letter to Newry.

As if I have time to be sending letters off all over the place, that probably won't get there, judging by other posts I've read on the net.

I asked him where the Setanta offices were in Sunderland, because they weren't listed anywhere on the net and I'd rather hand deliver the letter and know they've got it, and he said there weren't Setanta offices in Sunderland. I pushed him on this, and he didn't say much else, just to write in and it'd be sorted, and I'd have one final payment to make.

I decided to leave it at that but did a post code search in Google which shows maps and several links for SR9 9XZ as a company called 2Touch in Sunderland.

Anybody know anything about these guys and what their relationship is with Setanta?

Seems Setanta are cutting more corners by outsourcing one way or another.

Either way, I've cancelled my DD at the bank and they can speak to my solicitor if they think they're getting any more money from me.

If I need to watch sport on Setanta, I'll get myself one of those CAMs that auto-decrypts the signal Setanta sends, seems you can buy them easy enough and they're legal, just Setanta have a habit of using poor methods of encryption from what I've read elsewhere.

They've had enough money out of me one way or another, time I got my money's worth.

Perhaps if they reduced the cost during the non football season then people may not want to cancel.

Good thinking on canceling the DD Javaman.

I agree; why do Setanta put themselves through this, it would be easier to if you signed up & knew that you pay for only 10 months of the year & get 2 free months over the summer. Less work, less complaints - we did sign up because we enjoy the coverage but reading the posts makes me concerned about about doing so next year.

Come on Setanta it's just common sense!!!:A

I too would like to cancel my account, and it seems the only way is writing to them? What details do I need to include when writing to them? Don't want to end up writing back and forwards continually lol.

PS What address should Sky customers send to?

    Thanks guys
  • Having spent countless hours phoning the 08712 number they give, actually charged at national rates !!!
I decided to cancel using their webform and emailing them. Only after I cancelled my direct debit did they contact me !!! A result I thought, but all I got was a rude lady pointing out the Terms and conditions on the website whcih state that you must write to cancel your account ! Afetr much debate that as the address was not on the site and Email IS WRITING she was rather off hand and basically the answer I got was tough - you have to write in !
I even told her I didnt believe the phones for cancellation were manned just so they could eke a few extra pounds out of their customers.
I FOR ONE WILL NEVER USE SETANTA AGAIN AND I URGE OTHERS TO THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE DOING SO !
SO THE ADDRESS FOR THE UK for CANCELLATION
    IS
    SETANTA 4
    PO BOX 8544
    SUNDERLAND
    SR9 9XZ
PUT YOUR NAME, ADDRESS AND SETANTA ACCOUNT NUMBER and sign it.
Something that SETANTA SHOULD HAVE ON THEIR SITE !!!
IF You feel like complaining about the service then please do so.
    The address is :-
    STUART BRODIE
    COMPLAINTS DEPT
    SETANTA SPORTS
    PO BOX 182
    THE QUAYS
    NEWRY
    BT35 5AS

I as hoping to follow a good spread of football over the season, but some teams were not featured at all !!
I checked the listings and for the ones above one it reads as follows:-
TEAM - Times on TV - then the percentage time overall over season
    NEWCASTLE UNITED - 10 = 22%
    MANCHESTER UTD - 9 = 20%
    ARSENAL - 8 = 18%
    LIVERPOOL - 7 = 16%
    ASTON VILLA - 7 = 16%
    BLACKBURN - 5 = 11%
    EVERTON - 5 = 11%
    CHELSEA -4 = 9.09%

So if you support anyone other than Newcastle, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool or Aston Villa
    Dont bother !

anybody like me had a txt message off them yet.." dear customer, can you please contact setanta sports on 08712 00 44 05. it is urgent that we speak to you regarding your account. thanks setanta sports."

i rung that number & was on hold only for another 20 minutes & put the phone down.

i paid by credit card, complained to my card provider that they were being naughty in taking more money than i had authorised them to take. they said sort it out with merchant. i said send me my balance, i'll pay it off & keep your card. took out a new card with someone else.

i sent a letter to kirkaldy, dated 14th april, recorded delivery, they got it, didn't respond to it, i'm still receiving setanta now over a month later, they'll have to get in touch with me 'coz i'm not bothering with anymore attempts to contact them.
