Could somebody help please? I have been living under the rock. Only found out today about this switch offer. I only have 1 DD set up on the account I want to switch from. Do you think that it will work if I switch with 1 DD and set up now 2nd one with another utility supplier to take it from the new Barclays account withing the next lets say 15 days. Do you think it will meet critertia of having 2 DDs? Thanks
Just go to HOMESERVE, take out their plumbing and drainage cover for 50p per month and then you have the two DD's (or use PayPal if you don't already). Then once the switch takes place, cancel the DD and it will have cost you 50p at the most.
The issue is the timing of the DD getting onto the account, not the need for sourcing a DD.  DDs take many days to set up from scratch.  And the switched account will need to have the DDs active before the switch. There's barely time for that to happen for a brand new DD now.  And the question was about whether getting one set up on the Barclays account would suffice - but that wouldn't.
If you set up a DD now and process the transfer tomorrow, the DD will 99% be set up in time. Once they get the mandate to start the DD, its usually 3 days to process. Barclays completes in 7 days so unless you're very unlucky the DD SHOULD be active before the switch completes. Either way, better to be in with a shot than miss out altogether
Thanks for the advice. I thought I previously read the DD needs to be active when the switch is initiated, and they might collect the information on the DD a few days before the switch completes. I vaguely remember some sort of message in a previous switch saying that if you set up DD after initiating the switch they might not make it through. But I might misremember.
  • I have been following (and contributing to this thread in case anyone suggests I go back and read the whole thing) just wondering if anyone who already got the switch incentive didn't pay in £800 for the blue rewards?
I did not pay in £800 for Blue Rewards, I have had the incentive payment and cancelled BR.
That was a bit silly. I've no plan to cancel the Blue Rewards until I get my £10 cashback payment for spending £200 in December, I've already had the November one. £175 + £10 + £10 - £5 equals a very happy bunny.
Why is it silly. Not everyone has the means to spend £200 right now, so the poster could take offence to your post

I agree with this if the 5% cashback required legitimate spending, however as has been discussed it's fairly straightforward to recycle £200 into NS&I or similar to get the cashback without actually ending up out of pocket

We're having awful trouble verifying Mr Cheery's ID through the app. No idea why - did mine this morning and it's gone through fine! Tried his this morning several times, and again this evening, and it just keeps saying 'document not accepted' - tried both driving licence and passport, and it won't have either 🙄 Once, for a bit of variety, it said it couldn't verify his video 🙄

Just waiting for what I think is the 11th time, and then we might give up.

Not doing anything different than when I did mine this morning! Using a tablet rather than a phone (his phone isn't new enough for the app apparently) but otherwise I can't see a difference - this morning we were taking pictures in the same room, with the same lighting. Very frustrating.

I know other people have mentioned having to make an appointment - I realise it's too late for that now anyway for the switch, but it's not even giving that option, just saying 'try again with a different ID'. Doesn't have anything other than driving licence and passport!

11th attempt has just failed, so we're going to have one more try, attempting to get both pages of the passport into the picture this time. And then we'll give up and write off Barclays forever I think for being too annoying!

So they opened the account, but the app wouldn't let me switch after 5+ attempts, it always said "Sorry, something went wrong We can't process your request at the moment. Please try again later."

After clearing data to try and fix it, I now can't even log into the app as they haven't sent the details for my own account. I can visit a branch tomrrow, but terms are very clear that it must be completed in app, and say "before 30 November" which could be argued as before midnight tonight. Is there any chance of getting the advertised offer at this point?

Edit: just got confirmation from Barclays that the offer is live until "11:59" tomrrow, idk for certain if that means 23:59 or noon, but more time either way
  • I think the cutoff time for completing the switch on the app is before midnight tomorrow 30/11/2023. I haven't started my switch yet because I am hoping for DDs to show up.

I think it’s for opening account within the next 13 minutes (the website terms state ends on 30th Nov) and Google has a countdown on the sponsored posts of 13 mins left.

I think you’d need to start the switch now wouldn’t you? It has to be starte before the offer closes

DD setup works on the same 3 day clearing cycle as payment. This is why it takes about double the time for a new DD to pull. The list of DDs is shared at the start of the switch process, on days 1-2. For a switch initiated today, the latest a DD could have been requested on the old account is Tuesday. That's if the DD originator processes it immediately, which not all do.
Edit: Wednesday might have been ok given the info from MAinline421 above.
There was a post by someone earlier in the thread who set up DDs, but didn't wait the requisite 3 working days for them to activate. No DDs were transferred as a result and they didn't qualify for the incentive.

This gives people a way to delay their switch by an extra day if needed. Just wait until after the (7pm?) cut-off time for the switching service, and the switch won't start until Friday.

Sadly I started my switch yesterday just before midnight now because I got scared … I guess there is no way to delay now to hope for my DD to show up in time?
