I have now realised that there is no chance of getting this £175 bonus as I do not have sufficient photo ID. No matter if  if I make an appointment at the branch it still has to be done online to qualify. The only other possibility is for my 66 year old husband to exchange his paper driving licence for a photocard and apply.  Apparently this can take up to 3 weeks to process by which time the offer will have ended. Does anyone know of a quicker way to get a photocard licence? All legally of course!

Even though you go to the bank, they will still help you apply via the app. Loads have done it now, just read through the posts.

Assuming you don't already have a license, you could go for a provisional photocard license? It costs £34 (but of course the switch bonus would pay it back) and they say it could arrive in a week if they don't have to do any checks.

It's probably worth getting photocard ID eitherway if you're wanting to take part in bank switches, a lot of them are requiring it now to take part in them. I assume it's because they want people to go through their online/app applications because it requires less staff.

Thanks, the point is though that it has to be done entirely through the app to get the bonus, I dont have the photo Id. I think that people who have managed to open the account through the app within the branch have had all the relevant ID.

Thanks, that is something worth considering.
On a general note I find it infuriating with the difficulties I have experienced due to having no ID. I cannot even open a Government gateway account because of this. However the HMRC have known that I exist since I started work 42 years ago.

Hello again. Have you discussed your lack of photo id with someone at Barclays qualified to give a definite answer and been told there's no way you can open an account without it? The link I posted previously clearly states that either a UK government benefit entitlement (excluding Universal Credit) letter from last 12 months or an HMRC letter from the last 12 months is acceptable as proof of identity.

The same thing infuriats my wife, around 45 years of paying tax/NI, 47 years at the same address and born and living in this country since 1956. She's even had police checks done over the years as she's worked in banking, handling literally millions in actual real money. No passport (it expired years ago) doesn't drive, they can't confirm who she is online on the government gateway and some accounts applications denied online.
On a brighter note I've never been denied opening an account, well only the once by I think Chase. Passport expired, no photo drivers licence, Barclays opened the account ok and switch in progress, I thought this one would be more difficult, nope, easy again.

    Hello again and thanks.
The guy from the Barclays  twitter (now x) helpline advised me that , "if you do the application in branch you wouldn't meet the eligibility for the switch offer."
I am advised that there are "walk in" appointments available at the Barclays closest to me and will visit  next week and try and get an answer.

Thanks, I  assume you opened the account in the branch as you had no acceptable  photo ID, did they say you would still get the switch bonus?
  • Hi guys,

Do you have to move in the £800 to get the incentive?

I understand you need to join blue rewards to qualify, and in order to get the £5 reward you need to transfer in £800.

But could I join rewards, not pay in £800, and still get the incentive?

    Thanks
