The terms are, pay in £800 and join blue rewards, it's in the switch offer T&C'sjoocyglutes said:Hi guys,
Do you have to move in the £800 to get the incentive?
I understand you need to join blue rewards to qualify, and in order to get the £5 reward you need to transfer in £800.
But could I join rewards, not pay in £800, and still get the incentive?
Thanks1 -
I applied for the account online and got accepted straight off. Had to wait until I got my debit card and card pin, which arrived today. They also said I'll receive in an email a 5 digit pin to access my account via the app to set up banking that way. The 5 digit pin hasn't arrived yet.traceyaj said:
Thanks, I assume you opened the account in the branch as you had no acceptable photo ID, did they say you would still get the switch bonus?Brewer21 said:
The same thing infuriats my wife, around 45 years of paying tax/NI, 47 years at the same address and born and living in this country since 1956. She's even had police checks done over the years as she's worked in banking, handling literally millions in actual real money. No passport (it expired years ago) doesn't drive, they can't confirm who she is online on the government gateway and some accounts applications denied online.traceyaj said:
Thanks, that is something worth considering.Rawrzy said:traceyaj said:I have now realised that there is no chance of getting this £175 bonus as I do not have sufficient photo ID. No matter if if I make an appointment at the branch it still has to be done online to qualify. The only other possibility is for my 66 year old husband to exchange his paper driving licence for a photocard and apply. Apparently this can take up to 3 weeks to process by which time the offer will have ended. Does anyone know of a quicker way to get a photocard licence? All legally of course!Assuming you don't already have a license, you could go for a provisional photocard license? It costs £34 (but of course the switch bonus would pay it back) and they say it could arrive in a week if they don't have to do any checks. It's probably worth getting photocard ID eitherway if you're wanting to take part in bank switches, a lot of them are requiring it now to take part in them. I assume it's because they want people to go through their online/app applications because it requires less staff.
On a general note I find it infuriating with the difficulties I have experienced due to having no ID. I cannot even open a Government gateway account because of this. However the HMRC have known that I exist since I started work 42 years ago.
On a brighter note I've never been denied opening an account, well only the once by I think Chase. Passport expired, no photo drivers licence, Barclays opened the account ok and switch in progress, I thought this one would be more difficult, nope, easy again.
No worries as I've now registered and up and running with the app and joined blue rewards and made a small deposit for now. I used my debit card details to register in the app via pin sentry (I had another banks card reader) but that took around 3 tries, bit of a faff, a glitch me thinks. So all was left to do was the switch, click in the app 'get £175 to switch' which I did and in 7 days 27th it will happen.
No ID to prove my existence apart from the usual, phone no, email, DOB etc.. I did have a Barclays account previously though, about 4 years ago and annoyingly when looking at my registered details in the app it shows a defunct email address from the previous account which I closed, I've changed it but it'll take a while (I think) to update.
As far as I'm aware you need to apply in the app to switch an account in for the incentive which I've done. I'm sure I've seen also on here others say they've applied in the app for an account, I'd like to know how as I couldn't do it that way.1 -

You can only apply for an account via the app at certain times of the day. If you load the app up at "out of hours" times the option doesn't show.

Thanks, that explains why I couldn't get it to play when I used it to apply. It was around 9pm if I remember correctly, browsing this forum it became aware I could get this incentive.Rawrzy said:I'm sure I've seen also on here others say they've applied in the app for an account, I'd like to know how as I couldn't do it that way.

I opened a new account via the app but it didn't ask about Switching, Blue Rewards or anything!! What did I do wrong??
EDIT - Now the app is behaving like I didn't open an account?! I briefly saw a sort code and account number, but now the app is asking me to register the app or open a new one
That's why I hate opening accounts via phone apps, they should have at least gave us the option to open online!0 -
There is no mention in the T&Cs about paying in £800!Brewer21 said:

The only (slight) downside to not paying in £800 is that you will be charged £5 for Blue Rewards, but you will receive no reward, so you'll get the incentive and just be a fiver down.0 -
That happened to me too. When I phoned them to ask what had happened to my app, I was told I could not have two apps (I already have a Barclaycard app, but there was no option to apply for the current account there that I could see) I was told that I would have to wait for the card to arrive and then re-register on the Barclays app and then delete my Barclaycard app and then put my Barclaycard on the Barclays app. I had already transferred the £800 but of course could not do anything about getting it out either as I no longer had access to the App. I was told to call back the following day as I would have moved up a security level by then. When I did call back, of course I was told that there was nothing they could do about the withdrawal- I would have to wait until I could set up the app, and in order to do that I would have to go into branch to merge the profiles and what I had been told the previous day about merging them myself was wrong. So right now I don't yet have a debit card, a working app or my £800.Robgmun said:

The only (slight) downside to not paying in £800 is that you will be charged £5 for Blue Rewards, but you will receive no reward, so you'll get the incentive and just be a fiver down.To enjoy Barclays Blue Rewards, you’ll need to:
- Be aged 18 or over
- Be a UK resident
- Have an eligible current account*
- Pay the £5 monthly fee
- Have at least £800 paid into your nominated account every month
- Be registered for Online Banking or the Barclays app
- Provide your email address.

My husband and I have both successfully opened the Barclays account and have now received debit cards/PIN numbers so have been able to re-register our apps. I won't bore you with the details albeit to say patience has paid off!
My question is regarding DDs. I moved a couple of existing utilities DDs from another bank account to a NatWest current account I planned to use for this switch because there were no DDs there. However, the speed of the switch (within 7 days) has meant those two DDs are not showing anywhere and my NatWest account was closed following the switch yesterday. Both DDs are due out on 1st month so December. Will NatWest simply send the requests across to Barclays next month? If not what happens please because I know you need two active DDs for the incentive to be paid. I've met all the other criteria and can maintain that eg paying in £800 and joining the Blue Rewards.
Thankfully my husband has not started his switch so we have a few more days to ensure the DDs are firmly in place.
Any advice welcome.

Fortunately, I haven't moved any money yet, but when setting up the account it never asked about Switching my old account, Joining Blue Rewards or anything.movingon said:

So their screw-up could cost me the bonus. Nothing I can do until I call them Monday unfortunately.0
