Ah, there was something very 90'ish about their old logo but I kind of got used to it. It looked like a housing association logo ! All institutions go through rebranding.
Remember when nat west used the brown colour in the 90's and had their animal cheque books
Barclays have over the years dummed down their eagle, it used to have 3 crowns on it and I remember the old barclays connect card it looked majestic on it. Now looks a bit limp. They are moving their branch in Chester, that has an embossed metal black eagle logo with 3 gold crowns on it.1 -
I see a red train with a plume of red steam coming out the top. DAK how much they paid the design team?0

https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-12605531/Nationwide-boost-branches-Building-society-launches-rebrand-1980s.htmlInteresting, they seem to be presenting themselves as a small bank rather than a building society now. That advert comes across as very catty, the way they are having a dig at their rivals. Have they forgotten that with the fairer share scheme they regarded people who'd had savings with them for 25 years in the same way the manager in the adverts regards employees who've been their 25 years? I can't say it gives me a positive impression of NationWest.4 -

From an article published in 2016
https://www.marketingweek.com/nationwide-brings-back-building-society-branding/
Nationwide is refreshing its brand after “hunkering down and protecting the business” in the aftermath of the financial crisis, unveiling a brand name, “building society Nationwide” and campaign aimed at explaining more clearly how it differs from its PLC competitors.
Nationwide is hoping to become a leader of “a category that has become so tarnished”, according to Bennison. While the brand had previously avoided labelling itself a ‘building society’, it has now decided to include the phrase in its brand name.
https://www.nationwide.co.uk/about-us/what-membership-means/Why we're different
We’re not a bank. We’re a ‘mutual’ building society. As a mutual, we are owned by our members, which means we think about profit in a different way from our banking peers.
We help each other buy homes and save for our futures by bringing our borrowers and savers together. We help each other with our other financial needs too, all for our mutual benefit.

We've changed how we look
But not what makes us different.
Why have they suddenly decided to remove "building society" from their logo?

Doesn't it show a bird looking through a tilted keyhole?Reed0
