Has anyone mentioned the 8% regular saver account?0
-
Yes, it was with I think 50 pre printed cheques. Ulster got switched away by now so no longer relevant.pokemaster said:Are you sure it was Cheque Book? As Ulster sent me a paying in book
Just got my customer number and was able to register for online banking and app. They say they have some sort of maintenance until Sunday 3rd September 8am. "Sorry, we're unable to show you all your account info at the moment or process outbound payments"0 -
I think @pecunianonolet was too polite to point out that it was in his their original post.@fatbelly said:Has anyone mentioned the 8% regular saver account?

There's been a big discussion about it over on the regular saver thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6106986/regular-savings-accounts-the-best-currently-available-list/p1

Did you only need the customer number to register? I applied for the bank account online and got the customer number already but nothing else. I thought applying online meant you didnt need to register since you had to put in a password in the application but if I log in they want me to phone to add my mobile number which also feels odd because they clearly have it as they sent me a text about my switch lol.pecunianonolet said:

I applied on the website on Thursday evening. Tried to register for online banking straight away but didn't work. Asked in online chat on Friday and was told it can take up to 5 working days, but sometimes goes quicker and that I should just keep trying. This morning I received an email with the customer number so tried again and was able to register for online banking and set all my passwords, pins, etc. Next, registered the app with the new details and all accounts (Flex Direct & Flex Instant Saver) showed up.Rawrzy said:

Was able to open the regular saver straight away and got the welcome email instantly. Set up a new payee with my main bank and sent £1 test payment and showed up instantly. Applied for an overdraft at account opening (up to £1500 interest free overdraft for 12 month) and was able to make an internal transfer into the reg saver using the overdraft and that worked and the £200 showed up straight away with the date of today.
Setting up a payee with Nationwide didn't work in the app, was told need to log in to online banking but didn't bother for now. Guess I have to wait for the card reader to arrive.
My switch completion date I set as far as possible into the future (19th October) to allow enough time for all the changed DD to become active so I get the £200 switch bonus.1 -

Hmm, mine seems a bit different. I just checked and now it's updated to say it wants a passnumber to log in. Same for the app. Googling it seems like that's sent via mail? So guess I'll have to wait till next week to get in. The register again pages wants a bunch of account details I don't have yet either, so can't really use that to speed up the process.

Hmm, I got account details straight after the application was finished and it said on screen account is open. Took a photo of it with my phone. The passcode is one you have to set when you register for online banking.Rawrzy said:pecunianonolet said:

The website is astoundingly bad. I'm a long term Nationwide member but previously all savings and a mortgage. I opened a current account and had quite a shock when I sent £2 into it and wanted to send £1 back - a routine I have to get key payees set up on new accounts. I wasn't able to send any money out of the current account without a card reader received and activated. Not via app or online. I could move to my pre-existing savings account but I lost the ability to change the nominated account (which pre having the current account, clearly I could just do)Rob5342 said:pecunianonolet said:
Seriously, they not allow to set up a new payee without a card reader? Terrible. OH and I got 6 card reader altogether when we opened Natwest, RBS and Ulster and we never asked for one. Ulster even sent a cheque book, never used a cheque ever so more work letting them through the shredder. Card readers of no use at all, only additional work separating packaging for the correct recycling bins.Volcane said:Yes, to set up a new payee you need the card reader. You only need to do this once though ( for each new payee)… once set up it’s like any other banking app.
It's hard to believe but that's true, Nationwide are very old fashioned and don't seem to have much interest in modernising anything.
It's all very backwards. Their website visually looks like the kind of software you used to get on tills in the 90s - very dated. The app appears modern but you can't actually do anything on there. Tiny building societies have a better effort than this at online and app banking. This is always what stopped me using Nationwide for banking in the past and every year they don't sort it, it looks worse.1 -
It's bizarre isn't it. They have been around for a long time but are living in the past and don't have even the most fundamental things that every other account provider has.
