I'm tempted by this offer.  I don't have a "spare" bank account to switch so I'd be moving our joint Natwest to a joint Nationwide account along with all DD's.

However, I've been reading reviews of the NW app and it's not that good!  One reviewer states that you still need a card reader to set up a new payee (that's soooo last century :D ) and I know that will drive me mad.

Does anyone have recent experience of it to confirm whether the card reader is still needed or if it's been improved in the last month or 2?

The current banking apps I use are Lloyds, Chase and Natwest (and previously HSBC) which are excellent, and if the NW app isn't as good I know it won't be worth the move for £200.

    Thanks

    Jopo
  • So reading Ts and Cs on front page, even if I have a flex direct account with them already which was not part of a switch incentive ever I'd get the £200 for switching a donor account to them?

Never done that in the past to other providers as usually I've only switched for an incentive.  NW is my main bank account and has been for years

Yes, to set up a new payee you need the card reader. You only need to do this once though ( for each new payee)… once set up it’s like any other banking app.
    Best Regards,

Their app is terrible, I could never use Nationwide for a current account as they hopelessly old fashioned.

It's easy to open a spare account to switch from, you might be able to open a second NatWest one in the app.

I've got 2 DD with Halifax, but I really don't want to switch from Halifax as it's been my main account for many years.  However, I've got a lot of burner accounts, such as NatWest, RBS, Virgin Money.   If I move my DD from Halifax to one of these current accounts, how can I do it and how long does that roughly take?

Or am I better off setting up some fake DDs?
You need to give the company the details of your new bank account that you want to make the payment from. You can often do it via their webdite.
I'm happy to give them the new DD details, but my concern is that they take a month or so to change to new bank and by then Nationwide change or stop the switch scheme.  From your own experience, how long roughly does a company take to change the DD?
It varies a lot in my experience, some companies have taken a month and with some it's popped up in the app after a day or two.

You could add some extra direct debits rather than switching existing ones. You could open a PayPal account and set a direct up for that, or sign up for one of the lotteries and pay by direct debit.

Seriously, they not allow to set up a new payee without a card reader? Terrible. OH and I got 6 card reader altogether when we opened Natwest, RBS and Ulster and we never asked for one. Ulster even sent a cheque book, never used a cheque ever so more work letting them through the shredder. Card readers of no use at all, only additional work separating packaging for the correct recycling bins.
  • Are you sure it was Cheque Book? As Ulster sent me a paying in book

It's hard to believe but that's true, Nationwide are very old fashioned and don't seem to have much interest in modernising anything.
