  • @joedenise, the gammon has a sell by of the first of January so thats sat in the fridge, Its cured so as long as the vacuum doesn't get broken it will last happily there

Every year Ive got a kilo sized one and every year we eat more of it then turkey. So I went large :)   I have a meat slicer and Boxing Day I spend the morning slicing up the turkey and ham and getting it frozen into meal portions ( for 3 ) leaving some for ham egg and chips, making quiches with the chunks and even pea and ham soup. Seriously I spend the two mornings cooking then its all there , get out the fridge, make fresh roasties or chips or the bubble - dinner on the table PDQ which is a godsend as this is our mad season in hospitality and coming home I need good food - FAST

We'd be lost without our meat slicer too.  It comes into it's own at Christmas definitely but not so much this year with it being just the 2 of us!  Having said that DD1 may also join us but if she does decide to come for Christmas dinner then I'll probably do the lamb leg and we'll have the beef wellington for New Year (she's not keen on beef, weirdo!)

I managed to nab a Morrisons TGTG bag last night so will have that to pick up around 2pm this afternoon.  Hopefully it will have plenty of fruit and veg again.  I couldn't get any reasonable sized onions in Tesco yesterday so could certainly do with those in the bag, if not then I'll get some in the shop - after we've checked what's in the bag.  May pick up a pack of blueberries although there's quite often some in the TGTG bags.

    Today's plan:

    B - fry up - P; S; F; 2
L - burger, onions, gherkin slices in WM pitta - HEB; S; 0.5
D - roast beef, roast potatoes, roasted carrots and parsnips, swede and carrot mash, green beans, peas, yorkie - P; S; F; 2

    HEA - milk
    HEB - pitta
Syns - LF sausages 2; LF burger 0.5; Skinny crunch bar 3.5

    Have a good day everyone.
  • @joedenise , theres just the three of us, still have to do the gammon and turkey. And I cant get away with a crown as both me and Mr L like the brown meat

The meat slicer isnt much younger then me and its really fiddly. I saw they had them in Lidl this week and I was so tempted to buy a new one, but this one still works and it does only get used once or twice a year so Ill just batter on

Beef is for New Years day - so far. Dont know if I have just two more or 7 more to feed, or even if its just us three. If its just us three, then it can stay in the Freezer till we have guests, way too big for three and none of us are really fussed on beef tbh, its not often I resort to it. We prefer - in no particular order - chicken, turkey , lamb and Gammon

Good luck with your TGTG bag. Its only lidl here that do the veg box, and they are as rare as hens teeth. Tesco reductions are a joke, 10 or 20p off really quite manky veg - salad bags where most of the leaves are turning blimey or avocados you could put your thumb through, just not worth the small saving. Vegetables are a huge part of my spends since Ive gotten on board with speed with everything. Im turning more and more to frozen to keep the costs down

The TGTG bag got cancelled this morning so we popped over there anyway as I needed some onions as I said earlier.  Managed to pick up some good fruit and veg YS including 2 pack of 3 peppers for 60p each, plums for 59p (had to throw one away and it was manky!); sweet sugardrop cherry tomatoes on the vine 59p.  Also picked up a load of bread so can finally have 2 slices without having waste 4.5 or 5 syns on a slice!  DH can finish off that loaf!  DH picked up yet another box of mince pies - that man is going to end up looking like a mince pie at this rate!!!  He's eaten the dozen we bought during the week and I expect these will be gone by Tuesday!

You're not getting much luck with the TGTG bags lately @joedenise but a productive journey none the less. 👍

DD1 loves the brown meat too @Longwalker so that's one of the turkey legs accounted for. 😊

We're having chicken today so I can give poultry a break until we have the turkey. That's just for roast dinner though as I'm sure we'll have other chicken meals.

I've had a busy morning. I put braised red cabbage in the oven and the WM on while I nipped into the city centre. I needed to pick up a new dress shirt for DH click and collect, return a baggy cardigan to JL and buy a couple of presents for DGD. The shops were pretty manic but I didn't take too long.

DH is going with colleagues to a black tie do on Tuesday. So that's egg and chips for me! 😋🤣

    Today's EE plan -
B- HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks, egg, bacon (P), mushrooms (S)
    L- Spanish omelette (P, S), ham (P), pickles (S)
D- roast chicken (P), roast potatoes, stuffing (F), speed veg (S)
    Syns - gravy 4, weekend wine 😁

Forgot to post about my meal last night. It was basically a salad with gammon and chicken and cheese plus leaves, tomatoes and couscous. I had fruit salad for pudding. Syns were in a bit of mayo, a couple of olives, the cheese wasn't all HEA and I had a couple of tbsps of cream. Anything else would have been in however they made the couscous and honey/sugar in the fruit salad. Even if it came to a generous 20 syns, that's less than a bottle of wine! 🤣

That sounds like a pretty SW friendly meal @maman.  As you say less syns than a bottle of wine - not much more than half bottle!

I'm sure you'll enjoy your egg and chips Tuesday night!  It's what I'm having tomorrow night as DH has a pie made for him by DD1's partner which has been in the freezer for a few weeks and I really want to return his pie dishes to him in case he needs them!  They're much deeper than any pies I've ever made!

So will you be having a turkey crown @beanielou or something else. 🤔

I love lamb. My favourite is a stuffed blade end of shoulder. It's fatty but that's what makes it so delicious. 😋

Go scrub your mouth out!!! lol

I love Lamb. I have to be honest and admit that when I first moved here, in February , when the lambing season just started, I couldn't touch it. And whilst I live in a farming community, theres very few who will, hence I love New year when all those half priced legs get marked down to 6 or 7 quid.

Everyone associates lamb with those bundles of fun in a field, But lamb is a lot older, and those lambs have spent their lives out in the fields eating grass.

Unlike the beef thats sold unless you are paying premium for grass fed

But hey ho, Ive worked in the food industry most of my life so I could prattle on and put you all off eating anything

As for the brown meat, its so much more versatile , I buy thighs and legs mostly , they take on flavour and slow cooking so much better then a breast. A breast really can only be cooked the once, will dry out on a reheat and I do try always to cook once and eat twice

Anyways today I worked 1 -5 . I had a slice of bread and mustard before I left. Now I know that sounds really weird, it is, but I love mustard, all different ones, they arent all burny hot like Colemans  and I lifted a jar of Bavarian sweet mustard and had to give it a try - OMG its gorgeous. Probably more syns then enough, but I wanted to taste it. So that did me this morning and I took left over salmon pasta for lunch but it was 4pm before I got around to that so the beef casserole has been ignored tonight. I wasnt going to enjoy it

So way too little food today :( But Im not hungry at all. Hopefully Ill wake starved tomorrow. I know that if I dont eat enough I dont lose . Probably met and exceeded my syns but so not enough food

Anyways its chucking it down, its cold, Im going to sit in the hot tub for an hour and hopefully get some sleep ( carp night last night, Mr L put the rad on in the bedroom and I cooked )
