  • Managed to stuff myself today. To the bemusement of some of my colleagues I sat at lunch with a punnet of raw white mushrooms and munched my way through several. 3 of my colleagues actually tried them and were surprised how tasty they are.

Had 3 Finn crisps with vegemite and chicken (half hexb) as well. Had some fruit too. Have managed to ignore all the cakes, mince pies and chocs in work so far, but it's early days.

Dinner was 2 jacket spuds (not too big) with baked beans and half fat cheddar (hexa).
Then had a piece of panettone (4 syns) and half hexb of sugar puffs, plus my Options. Another 1.5 syns for milk.

    Really full now but satisfied.

Popped in to see my old neighbours this evening. Along with in work today, they were all noticing the weight loss so that felt great. Told my neighbour that I'd stay at SW til my 12 weeks were up then I may stop, but it turns out that in Jan she will be going back to the one I tried last night, so has persuaded me to stay on so we can have a natter each week. Love her to bits so there's my incentive to stay til I get to target probably.

Not sure why you thought of stopping after 12 weeks @NornironRose? (going it alone? getting to target? 🤔) but pleased your neighbour is motivating you. It's good to have a SW buddy. 👍

Well done on swerving the Christmas goodies at work. Keep planning SW snacks to take in. You can do this! 👏👏👏

    Morning all.

Sorry to hear your meal wasn't that great @maman.  I've got our work Christmas meal next Thursday and know we've paid a lot per person for not a lot of food 😞

Well done on ignoring the treats in the office @NornIronRose

Made some overnight oats for breakfast but they didn't really "set" because I think I added a bit too much milk.  So whizzed them up in the blender and had it as a smoothie instead with some blueberries.  Lunch is freezer surprise which I think is a veggie chilli but could be another curry again as it has lentils in it!  Whatever it is, it will be served with a few potato wedges as have a couple of small potatoes to use up.  No idea what dinner is going to be as we're going out tonight and need to get food on the go.

Anywho hope everyone has a good weekend.

Morning all, looks like we've had some rain overnight but it's quite bright and forecast to stay dry so it will be back to normal with some washing.  I've got a machine load of whites to do plus the bedding of course.  Will get it out on to the line to at least get rid of some of the water.

Well done @bubbs on your Asda haul and your luck on the spin a wheel!  I love a steak - any sort although my favourite is rump as I think it has far more flavour than anything else.

Glad to see you are filling yourself up with proper food @NornIronRose and avoiding the chocs and treats in the office.  Splitting your HEB is also a good idea.  I think you've probably noticed how much fuller you feel now you are following the plan properly!  No need to stop going to group once you get to target - no need to pay once you get there and if you think you've put on then give it a miss for a week to get back.  Both @maman and I use our clothes to know whether we're in target or not!  I have a particular pair of trousers which fit comfortably when I'm in bottom half of range, are OK when I'm spot on but if I need to breathe in to do them up I'm in top end.  If it's as bad as needing to lay down on the bed to get them done up then I'm out of range although, thankfully that doesn't happen too often!

I still need to portion up the beef stew I made yesterday, I added a tin of mixed beans to it so there's probably another 4 portions left.  Must say it was very tasty

    Today's plan:

    B - porridge, fruit - HEB; S; F
    L - leek and potato soup - S; F
    D - Fakeaway KFC, chips, beans, corn on the cob - P; F; 4

    HEA - milk
    HEB - porridge oats
Syns - instant mash powder 4

    Have a good day everyone.

  • @Nornironrose, how cheeky of me not to think you might have dietary requirements, Saw the name, thought yep shes a meat and three veg kind of lass with a scone with every cuppa , my apologies

Well done on your loss. With the first stone comes the people about you noticing, such a huge boost. We are weird us humans, we like our hard work to be acknowledged by all and sundry, we do get that good feeling from a compliment ( Ive been on a high all week over Colm's comments lol )

My sisters family are muslim, back in the day ( haven't seen her in years, a falling out ) it was really difficult as so much food had gelatine from pigs , now theres veggie gelatine which is more widely used so more choices are available. I do have vague memories of her getting updates from the mosque as to which everyday products had changed and which were and weren't allowed. She like myself is a scratch cooker, everything homemade, but she also has the benefit of being married to an Egyptian and has all their tasty recipes to work from. Lots of veg and bean based dishes, very cheap, very tasty and very filling. Only trouble being, no knife and fork - flat bread lol

@Bubbs, Im so sorry the end is coming so soon for your friend. Not for her, but for you, her friends and family.. At least you have this time to say your goodbyes and give her a good death. (((((HUGS)))))
Ribeye is the best steak , full of flavour and the fat is usually just the eye. Over here in NI they sell it with the eye removed so it actually looks like a bit of braising steak. I have to say I prefer it with the eye - added flavour and no need to eat it

@jellybaby , great idea about planning a new look. Id love to do that, really would but not quite where I want to be yet. Im going to put my Dry January money in a jar and treat myself to something though. Ive been lucky in that with my mental health being so bad for so long and hoarding years of clothes I do have a wardrobe full of clothes that fit, but Im wearing stuff I bought in the 90's , sure its all classical never age stuff but yes its a big birthday for me next year as well so I might do the same, another incentive for me to stay on track - thank you

@maman, so disappointing re the meal. When you are going to eat out and bust the syn budget its got to be worth it hasn't it? So many places are cutting back so they can keep to a price point. The place I cooked in, used to have a 5 page menu, down to 3 now and the lunch specials are very carb heavy

@coxy, its never nice being the newbie is it? So unsettling, esp as every department has such a different feel about it
Re the overnight oats, this is kind of what I take to work every day. I make my own FF greek style yoghurt which is as thick as clotted cream, I put half an HEB worth of oat bran in the bottom of a bowl, add 3 big dollops of the yoghurt and top with a generous amount of frozen berries . By time I get to work the berries are defrosted then when Im feeling the hunger come on, I stir it all up and eat away. May take me most of my shift to get through it but it fills me for the day. I prefer the oat bran - no lumpy chewy bits getting stuck in the teeth but still getting my fibre

@Mrsporridge , hope the day wasnt so bad yesterday.

@ruby_eskimo, hope your head gets settled, nowt worse then not feeling in control

I cracked up yesterday - with laughter. We were out from 9am taking his car in, then heading Christmas shopping. It was wild and wet, not the best day and as you all know I had KFC on my mind. So yep, a gravy box was in front of me by 11.20 and in me by 11.30 :)  1:30, still no car back so had to feed the meter, by this time it was tipping it down, really belting it, so into Gregs we went for a cuppa, and oh look, the festive bakes are out of the oven so before you knew it, one was in me . No sooner had I finished it , got a motivational text through from my consultant ( she sends them regularly ) and I was lmho when I replied - too late, the festive bake is already in me .. I didnt tell her about the KFC, Ill save that for Saturday :)

Yes I know I had set myself up for the bake, I never usually drink tea, it was an excuse to not to be able to say no to the bake

Still that was it for the day, had scrambled eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes for dinner and I had only had kippers on Wednesday , so fingers crossed I get a STS

Still we got the grandkids all sorted, started on mums. I tried to get Mr L to show me what he liked but he wasnt playing ball. I tried to find some knee high flat boots, my skinny legs were letting me down there. I did find one pair in TK that fitted beautify but I didnt like them enough for the £100 price tag . So not used to buying new, its scares me the prices

Ive volunteered for a shift in our Sister Store in town. Its really busy, more a canteen, you queue and get the food plated and you pay at the till, where as the one I work at is table service and cooked to order. Seems Im on the dishwasher, which is ok, its only four hours , Ive double protected my nails and have my rubber gloves ready :) I got to meet some of the staff at the Christmas dinner so Im not going in not knowing anyone , Ill be grand , even if I come home knackered :)

WI tomorrow, so I need the exercise :)

Hope your shift goes ok @Longwalker.  Love that you managed to get your KFC and your festive bake in!

Came back to say that the freezer surprise is definitely curry again 🤣  We honestly don't have curry that often but for some reason I keep filling the freezer with it 😆

  • I've had a few disastrous freezer surprises in my day!
Longwalker I'm glad you managed your treats and were still giggling about it, and making us laugh too. I suppose when you get to target it's less stressful.

Coxy it sounds as if work isn't too bad so far. Hope theatres was okay today. (Hate the smell of theatres!)

I had a quite unproductive day in work. Ended up unexpectedly cancelling a training session this afternoon and was happy to have the extra time to get on with things. Ended up doing not very much of not very much! Definitely a Friday afternoon feel in work (I'm not normally in on a Friday so maybe it's usually like that!)

Can anyone give a suggestion of what to have on a jacket spud please? Don't have bolog. Did with baked beans and cheese yesterday but it's too windy!!!! Going out tomorrow and will be on the train with several friends and don't want to kill them all! Had to apologise to my trainees today before I did a CPR session as I knew I'd embarrass myself!

Had 3 crisp thin things (half hexb) with banana on top along with a handful of raw mushrooms and an apple in work today so I'm quite hungry. Will probably do an omelette but fancy spuds to fill me up. The ones I have are quite floury and obviously can't have butter. I suppose I could do mash with some milk.

Don't know if you're planning to shop for the JP filling @NornironRose but if you are I like cottage cheese with spring onions sliced into it and beetroot or salad on the side.

Also prawns, you can make a very low syn Marie Rose sauce with LTL mayo, dash of tomato puree, little squeeze of lemon juice or wine vinegar and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Alternatively just have grated cheese and plenty of salad or pickles on the side.

Will post menu later as need to cook dinner.
