Have you got any Speed fruit or veg you can add to today's menu @MrsPorridge? Perhaps mushrooms or baked onions with your dinner or an apple for a snack? 🤔

Well done on cutting back on syns! 👍
Thank you @maman for the suggestions - yes I'm going to add mushrooms and some onions to my dinner.

  • Well, the course was ok. Meant to finish at 4 30 and got away at 5. Consequently I'm waiting in London for a train back home.
Lunch was ok. Risked one wee quarter wholemeal sandwich which was heavy on the lettuce and light on the cheese. Had some wee fruit skewers and a couple of what looked like Quorn nuggets on a stick!
Really hungry now but have managed to avoid every coffee and snack place and will eat when I get home. SW takes the fun out of travelling somewhat!

NornIronRose, you HAVE to Eat, you are not eating enough and letting yourself get that hungry, you are going to walk in the door and shove anything and everything down your neck

Even without using any syns you could have had a full sandwich ( wholemeal I admit )  and you know if I had been hungry and the bread wasnt wholemeal, Id still have had the sandwich and just eaten the fillings if I was that concerned

When the buffet lunch is presented, dont panic, you know what proteins are - eat those. When Im out and not in control of whats being served, I swerve the bread and pastry and fill up on everything else - PROTEIN first, then the  fruit and veg and then the carbs

You have to eat.  Get you head around what is free - that includes rice, pasta, spuds. Lean meats - free. Eggs - Free, most fish - free ,most fruits - free

Then in those fruit and veggies theres those that are "speed" ie eat with abandon, you are never going to gain weight eating that lot by the bucket load

Stop comparing calories, you can do that later on in your journey. Right now make it easy for yourself till picking the more desirable foods becomes second nature

Ive said on here more times then enough, I dont use syns in food, all my food is syn free bar the wee touch of brown sauce or ketchup which I myself never count. Im an alkie, I drink every day, vast amounts by anyones book. I tell myself Im having 5 x3 syns a day, think double if we are honest, yet Im still loosing weight. Yes I have to be very careful - due to the alcohol syns and for me its a very very fine line, but if you arent drinking 15 syns a day or stuffing the chocolate in, you should be full all day, possibly 5 or more syns left.  The only time Im hungry enough is when I get a shift change and Im not prepared. Those times are getting less. I take my yoghurt and fruit and oat bran into work and I much on it during my four hour shift and 16k steps later, carrying lord alone knows what sort of weights, I might be peckish, but can hold on for my dinner and I dont hold back. What ever it is Im cooking has to feed mum and hubby. Tonight I had fake KFC and salad, they also had fried potatoes, I had a jacket. Im stuffed, seriously stuffed because my plate was protein and speed. My HEA was my yoghurt, my HEB was the breadcrumbs. I take a lot of pickles now, saves on needing a dressing on the salad

My rules for me are - use the HEB carefully, decide if Im using bread that day or can I use it as either oat or oat bran to fill my yogurt out more. Use my HEA as cheese, be it lights in a jacket or as a spread, or parmesan on a pasta dish or cheese on me bacon toastie. I drink very very little milk. Then my plate is now filling up with veg, massive salad tonight, loads of veg with a meat and veg type meal and shove the veg in where its never beeb before - the curry last night for instance

Those are my rules as because I say, I need to be full so I dont pick and I dont use syns for food. You really do need to look at how you can make this work for you. Barely eating isnt going to work

I dont mean to sound preachy or a know it all, just I spent my first few months scared of eating and ended up doing as you are saying, and then cracking and pigging out and I know how miserable I felt and how obsessive I was becoming

So study that food optimising book, highlight the foods on the speed and free that you actually enjoy and make those your base line and then use your syns to add to those if you need to. Or like me, tweak how you actually cook something , like last nights curry - no ghee, butter, or cream and just a wee squirt of oil to stop the onions catching

Great post @Longwalker - that is exactly how SW is meant to be - use the Free foods to fill yourself up - plenty of meat or fish, plenty of vegetables, some fruit and carbs to just make sure you are full.  Absolutely no need to ever be hungry.
  • Thanks Longwalker. Really, really useful post. I'm taking it all in, I promise! The lunch there today was lots of sandwiches that I couldn't have (needed vegetarian even though I'm not veggie but am Muslim), or the veggie options were all pastry things like veggie sausage rolls which really didn't appeal.

When I got home I had a big salad with airfried baby potatoes, LO chicken, and a wee bit of feta (1/2 hexa).
Came to bed with my Options and sugar puffs as my hexb.
Went to Aldi on the way home as dd2 wanted the sachets of cous cous. Really happy with the £12 I spent as it was all fruit and veg apart from halloumi (they had the light one) and chick peas as dd2 and I fancy a harissa and halloumi and chickpea rainbow bowl thing that we have seen on IG. So that will be something to look forward to tomorrow after WI.

I know I need to be eating more. I am eating free foods, especially speed, where I can.
I think it's the hexa and hexb that I need to plan more. The one hexb I do struggle with. Had toast with scrambled egg yesterday for brunch after my run but then had the rest of my day knowing I couldn't have any more.
Maybe next time it'll be better to have 1 slice of toast and half my bowl of sugar puffs.
And you aren't coming across as preachy LW. Bring it on girl! The support and tips are EXACTLY what I need.

    Glad you're home at last @NornironRose. It's been a long day. 🤗

Splitting the HEB is an idea that might help. Otherwise, if you have time, do fried potatoes with your eggs to fill you up in the morning. They are nice on the side or in an omelette. When I was in NYC I loved the home fries in diners. They had onions and sometimes peppers mixed in with the potatoes. If you haven't got any LO potatoes, ping one in the microwave and slice it up. 😋

When you're out and about, try taking a banana or some satsumas in your bag in case you get hungry.

    Morning all,

I've been doing SW for literally years and it's only reading your excellent posts Longwalker and Maman that it's finally sunk in I could split my HEB!!  Like you @NornIronRose if I have toast or cereal at breakfast it plays on my mind that's it done for the rest of the day.

The one thing I do consistently is cook loads more veg than I need for each meal. The extra is really useful for fillers for omelettes, sides and just to snack on. I'm also a huge pickle fan!

Foggy, very icy morning here but feels really damp not the crisp and bright you'd expect looking out.

    Today's food:
    B - f/f Greek yoghurt, fruit
L - ham sandwich (HEB) with salad, lentil soup
D - homemade burgers, chips, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes

    Have a good day everyone!

Morning up, up earlier than usual this morning as needed to take my car to the garage for a service and MOT - hope everything is OK and nothing needs doing!  Service and MOT are expensive enough on their own.

Weather is dry again so have done 2 loads of washing and got it out on the line.  Yesterday's didn't dry but was much dryer than it was when I put it out so definitely dry this morning.  Hopefully the same today.

Boiler being serviced as well at the moment, so more money going out but needs must as it is still under warranty and don't want that lost by not having it done within the 12 months required.  It has a 10 year warranty as long as is regularly serviced.

    Today's plan:

    B - mushroom omelette - P; S
    L - sausage sandwich, pickles - HEB; S; 5.5
    D - fish pie - P; S; F; 4

    HEA - milk
    HEB - bread
Syns - spread 3.5; LF sausages 2; cheese sauce 4

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all.

Great post @Longwalker - I also try and shove veg in where it hasn't been before or my go to's are broccoli on the side of pasta dishes and a salad on the side of most other things.  I also split HEB's and HEA's all over the place which really does help.

Hope today isn't too expensive for you @joedenise!

Good to hear your dad had some treatment at least @Coxy11 - hope theatre is a positive experience for you.

Well the freezer surprises continue in this house with yet another portion of vegetable curry 🤣 Seriously don't remember when had this last so definitely needs to be used up but not sure I really want it 2 days running.  Had scrambled egg on toast for breakfast and dinner is corned beef hash so might have the curry or might have to raid the cupboards and see what else we have in 😆

Hope everyone has a good day!
