@bubbs, hope mum is ok. I was diagnosed back in my 20s with a tumour on the adrenal gland - non cancerous - just gives me severe hypertension. Nothing has ever been done, its there and I have always needed meds for the BP

@maddiemay, grim indeed :) Still I did it, dont have to do it again going forward
Well done being able to stay within range, something Im having to learn

@joedenise , Im of the same mind, its a glorified roast dinner. For me having worked in hospitality in some form or another the past 15 years, usually only get the one day off, so its cook the best ever dinner, with enough left overs to do the week. And also being so tired, then dinner in me, asleep on the sofa by 6, no time for over eating and back to it the following day. Slowly given up buying the "nice things" as I end up bining them. Now I have a tight menu using the Turkey and Ham from Christmas Day and we eat well, but a lot of veggies, esp at the price of them just before Christmas. I cook up a storm for Christmas Day and then its left overs - ie the same dinner on Boxing Day , then we move to bubble and squeak, then turkey and ham pie and ham egg and chips, soup, turkey and stuffing and gravy rolls - you name it, its turkey and ham - oh and stilton for the week :)

@rubyeskimo, great loss, well done you.. I love getting a good loss when I feel like Ive been having too many treats

@Nornironrose, your meals sound so much more satisfying that what you have previously posted.Much more filling, I do egg fried rice a lot now, and pile in the speed into that as well, well I say pile, its spring onions and peas as a rule but its more veg that I wouldn't have had if it were just boiled rice. I have a very well seasoned wok so just one spray of oil sorts me out. I also dont seen the light dairy leas as I never use a full HEA, I drink a minute about of milk, maybe one coffee every couple of days, and you can use 5 of the lidl light triangles for 1 HEA, at the most Id have 5 aa week so I dont count them . Maybe Im wrong but as I say I never use a full milk HEA and the yoghurt I make myself comes under free food - totally fat and sugar free with no sweetener

@MrsPorridge , you just have to think of it as a blip, a stumble, you pick yourself up with your next meal and get back to plan, which it sounds like you did, so well done you. If like me you need the accountability of a weigh in, is there another group on the Thursday or Saturday you can get to? I often have to pop into a Friday early morning one rather then my usual Saturday if work is getting in the way, or I know Im heading out Friday night. If I eat out Im not keeping to plan and I dont want a weeks work not being accounted for

Myself, still was a tad dodgy this morning, stomach was still a bit gripey but I got into work without incident. Took in my yoghurt and fruit but picked at it instead of wolfing it down. Still. it stayed in so a result :)

Dinner tonight was a totally free chicken tikka masala and rice.I used my usual recipe which is a hairy bikers one ( tastes like a curry house tikka ) and instead of ghee I softened the onions in water. It was when I started to cut the onions which were half rotten -only just bought and felt firm enough - I realised not enough so used a roasted red pepper as well ( more speed ). Also added piles of spinach and instead of my usual onion bahjee, I sliced an aubergine and air fried till soft but crispy , served with boiled rice - totally stuffed to the gills. So maybe not quite the tikka I usually cook but clean plates all round   Using the roasted red pepper to thicken is a SW trick I pinched from. their Jalfrezi recipe , works but does alter the taste somewhat but Im sure Ill be able to tweak the spices next time

Think Im pretty sorted for the week ahead, although I know Im going for a festive bake OR KFC on Thursday. Its change to OR, it was both in my head Saturday :)
  • I'm on my way to a course. Left home at 6.30 so a 3 hr journey in total because of train cancellations. Brought my laptop to do some work; just got it out to find its battery is almost dead. Bummer. Carrying the weight of it for nothing!
Also forgot my book and my phone charger. Picked up a free newspaper and in my big bag I have no pen for the crossword! I have pens everywhere usually, pockets, bags, but not today. Even brought papers to mark and can't even do those! Will pick up a pen at my course so those will keep me amused on the way home.

Grabbed an apple on the way out so I've just had that for breakfast. Be glad of a cup of tea when I eventually arrive. They always lay on a decent lunch so hoping for at least some fruit. Maybe a wee cheese salad sandwich.
Did some airfried baby spuds last night and some chicken so at least I can eat well when I get home. Have soup in the freezer too.

Have a good day everyone. Stay warm!

    Morning everyone.

I also love mushy peas @maman and @bubbs 😋 just not that weird mushy pea curry that was all over the SW groups a few years ago 🤢

Good to hear you had a better day @Coxy11 and hope your command centre is better than ours 🤣

That chicken tikka sounds amazing @Longwalker and might have to have a look at replicating that over the next few weeks when I need something that's got  bit of flavour in amongst all the more heavy and comforting things that we'll end up eating.

Hope your course isn't too bad @NornIronRose after all the delays and mishaps on the way there.

I'm WFH on my own today so can actually get a lot of stuff done.  Had some bran flakes with an apple this morning for breakfast.  Lunch is a freezer surprise that I thought was veggie goulash but I think it's some kind of vegetable curry instead 😆  Regardless, dinner tonight is kimchi fried rice in the spirit of using things up in the fridge etc.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Morning all, another grey day but at least it's forecast to stay dry!  Have done a machine load of washing and hung it out.  Hopefully it will at least dry it off a bit before going onto the airer overnight to finish off.  May even stand the airer in the shower as the bathroom is probably one of the warmest rooms being fairly small!

Glad you had a better day @Coxy11 yesterday.  Hopefully MissMoanalot won't be as moany today if you have to be in the same office!  Hope things turn out OK for your dad - it must be so difficult with him being so far away.

Well done @ruby_eskimo on your brilliant loss this week.  I love that you keep having freezer surprise for lunch!  I'm really good with labelling after having a disaster with not labelling many years ago!  Can't remember what exactly it was but the two boxes I got out definitely didn't belong together!  Think something along the lines of stew and custard, LOL!  (it wasn't actually that but certainly as bad!).

Hope your course goes well @NornIronRose after travelling for such a long time.  What a pain about your laptop not being charged and not having any pens.  I'm like you I've always got pens on me - but then very rarely need them.  I used to use them quite regularly when I wrote a shopping list as I just used to cross off what I'd bought but now I do it on my phone there's no need for pens but I still carry them!

Am I the only one who can't stand mushy peas on here - yuk!  Having said that I had the mushy pea curry at DD2s once and it wasn't too bad but there was definitely more chicken than sauce!

    Today's plan:

    B - scrambled eggs, spinach, toast - HEB; P; S; 5
    L - corned beef salad - S; 2
    D - sweet and sour pork; rice - P; S; F

    HEA - milk
    HEB - bread
Syns - corned beef 2; bread 5 (couldn't get my usual bread so had to buy Warburtons or Hovis!)

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

The snow has finally gone!  Had a cheeky day off yesterday and finally got back into civilisation (read Morrisons) with mother for her shopping.  I prefer Aldi's so ransacked their shelves on the way home and got to the grocer's for my usual haul of fruit and veg.

Eating from the freezer over the weekend, I had a M&S chicken and leek pie that came from a TGTG bag months ago. I didn't dare look at the syns and the burning heartburn has reminded me why I never eat pastry any more! Anyway it's gone and helped make room for all the veggies I'm hoping to freeze!

    Today's food:
    B - fruit and f/f Greek yoghurt
L - toast (HEB), cheese (HEA), tomato soup
D - pork medallions, baby potatoes, loads of roasted veg

Still to read back the last few pages but hope you're all well.  Have a good day all!

I'm always amused by your freezer surprises too @ruby_eskimo. I'm sure they're all tasty meals though! 🤣

I'm pretty good at labelling in general (masking tape or on the freezer bag) but I was a bit foxed last night. I couldn't tell the difference between sweet and sour or tomato sauce as I'd only written with a pencil and the light was poor. I must get a Sharpie and keep for freezer labelling.

Everything seemed to be against you this morning @NornIronRose. What could have been a few hours to yourself just sounded full of stress. Hope there's something SW friendly for lunch. 🤞🏼

Glad you got your shopping done @Jellybaby. Even eating from the freezer, we all need fresh stuff especially. My DH absolutely loves those pies. I know they're very synful but great to get one in a TGTG bag.

Boo to having to buy 1 slice bread @joedenise! Probably cost more too. Although I rarely eat both slices, it's good to know that I can and I suppose technically I'm saving a few syns (3?) when I don't. 🤔

    Today's plan-
B- HEB toast, HEA1 milk for drinks, fried eggs (P), tomatoes and mushrooms (S)
L- cold meat (P), fried veg and pickles (S)
D- meatballs in tomato sauce (P,S), Spaghetti (F), HEA2 Parmesan
    Syns- 0

    Snacks Banana and FF yoghurt
Debt free and Keeping on Track

Have you got any Speed fruit or veg you can add to today's menu @MrsPorridge? Perhaps mushrooms or baked onions with your dinner or an apple for a snack? 🤔

Well done on cutting back on syns! 👍

    Hi all,

DDad managed a radiotherapy session today – not sure whether they did the CT scan or not. Stepmum seems economical with actual important medical facts but loves to wax lyrical about other elements including her stress and DDad’s toileting!

Hope you’re feeling better @Longwalker. That tikka recipe sounds lovely especially with the aubergines x

I hope you had a good day at your course @NornIronRose and that they a) provided a decent lunch and b) a pen!!

I too love freezer surprise @joedenise and had it regularly in my old job. Need to get more organised here – I know there’s some BNS soup in the freezer so may take that out later to defrost for tomorrow. I have a lidded soup mug so that will come in handy. Another mushy pea fan here!!

Well done for decluttering the M&S pie @Jellybaby but I’m with you on the heartburn and general uncomfortable feeling pastry give me.

    Food today has been:

    B – apple - S

L – WM ham and LTL mayo wrap, cherry tomatoes, 20g cheddar portion, 2 satsumas – HEB, S, HEA, 0.5

D – diet cola chicken with rice – free

    HEA – milk

    Syns – hi fi bar – 3, advent chocs x 3 so counting as 3 syns, 0.5 = 6.5 total

I attended an outpatient breast clinic this morning and will go to the same Consultant’s theatre session on Friday although she said I can stand behind the glass if I like. I need to be here for 7.30am as theatre starts at 8am!
