EssexHebridean said:Yes - it's the way the weather is going that is making me think it's a good plan.
I'm seriously considering trying to see if I can keep the Hungarian Black chilli alive over the winter - not something I have ever tried, and we will save seed from it, but allowing that they weren't the easiest to get growing it would be nice to see if the original plant would survive. I think it will have to go on the front rom windowsill if so - although I have no idea whether that might be too warm for it. It's possibly the only option for the amount of light it will need though.
I tried to overwinter my chillis last winter, but failed miserably (they were just dead sticks in compost!). I think they go dormant in winter generally - helping them to do that is the idea behind overwintering them, but maybe you'll have better luck just trying to keep it going. Suspect light levels will be an issue though. Agree about them being difficult to get going - mine are only just producing now! And the two I bought from the allotment shop, with the benefit of a polytunnel to get them going nice and early, have definitely been better - at the price they sell them for, I might just opt for buying them next year.

Congrats on being mortgage neutral, that must be a very reassuring feeling.
£10 for a bottle of wine and being fed for the weekend is a good deal, mse-treat yourself!

P.S. sorry to hear about Mr EH's family trouble in Devon, hope it has a good or at least acceptable outcome6 -
Well done on being mortgage neutral even if it is via a mix of savings. We actually have a lot more in savings than owed on mortgage but mainly because our mortgage balance is only £5k 🤣
I’m in a much better headspace when I have a meal plan. I mostly plan but have the odd week when I go off piste.Sorry to hear 🐙 are still not being great. It’s only when an issue arises that you really find out how good their customer service is (or isn’t). I hope you get a satisfactory outcome soon. They have an HQ literally opposite my workplace and if they ever mess me about I’ll be hot footing it across that road and knocking on their door 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6 -

woohoo - I love the low-key take on being mortgage neutral - makes so much sense! - it's nice to know you could if you wanted to but don't have to so will keep on with your other goals and aims! - I hope to follow in your footsteps by the end of this year - sometimes it's the 'little' things that inspire!!!

Thank you all - I think we will feel far more celebratory when the mortgage neutral situation is all from joint money, but yes it is a reassuring feeling. Honestly though - you lot are just the BEST cheerleaders! 😁
Vix - yes, it’s the light thing I suspect will be an issue but we will see. I figure I have nothing to lose by trying anyway! If it was just a standard “breed” then I probably wouldn’t even bother - but these Hungarian Black ones are so tasty, hence I will also be saving seed from them.I am hoping the weather might have finally dried up here - not least as I gambled on the forecast for a dry afternoon to get the first load of washing through. We got soggy this morning going for a very brief walk, and it has rained in and off for most of the morning.
MSE Stuff so far:
- meal plan updated
- a batch-cook planned for the weekend
- shopping list sorted
- shopping done - no green boxes this week sadly.- hit my £50 Lil’s threshold so nabbed a free loaf too - that will save us making bread for the weekend
- bought a potted basil plan in Lil’s which I plan to re-pot and then will pop on a windowsill indoors - hopefully it will flourish and give me the profusion of basil I have failed to get from outside!
- tomato plants all taken out of their trays to hopefully help them cope with their waterlogged state - the fruit are coming off tomorrow regardless now I think.
- decision taken to head to our favourite plant nursery at some stage to see what winter veggies he has which may be worth us acquiring as we have got our heads into the game with sowing anything earlier
- quick check in BeeandEmm this morning to see if they had bags if logs and to price check them if so. They do, but only small ones. Still competitively priced possibly but I need to find out how big they are ideally, it was too wet this morning to check.
Had a whizz round downstairs with jaws this morning so that is done. Also been round all the mirrors and a few windows with a cloth and some glass cleaner. I think the next job is to set a timer for a general 15 minute tidy round and then if it is still dry I will pop the washing out then nip round to the chemist for my HRT Prescription which is now in. (Asking to take the paper ‘scrip away on Wednesday was a good call as otherwise it would almost certainly have been the other side of the weekend). Actually having looked at the radar picture for the weather I may reverse those things and do the chemists next… 💦🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
