Mine are at least all on standing orders, except for Mr Cheery's latest one. I'm convinced we set up standing orders for both of the new ones as part of the process of opening them, but if we did it's clearly not worked, and it won't let me set up a standing order to a savings account in his name from the joint account with the same bank 🙄4

Yes - MAB, you can't have two open at the same time so you do have to wait until one has matured and changed account description, plus another 24 hours on top with NW I believe.
How frustrating about the bank faffiness Cheery. (But well done for reminding me about that job needing doing)
Thanks all for popping in - the work situation definitely does seem to be a lot better at the moment so long may that last. It's really nice to be heading past the half way point of a week without feeling utterly desperate for it to be over!
Not much MSE stuff to report really:
- Banks checked and OK, if rather more squeaky than I would prefer at this stage.
- Can't do anything about redistribution of what surplus there is as MrEH may have to go to Devon at the weekend. We would sooner not have to use the tank of diesel, but if he does, he does, and this can't be helped - family first.
- only a handful of days off payday now anyway - hurrah for that.
- It looks like my insurers re fully intending to pursue the other party in my RTC last year, so I am hopeful for confirmation before too long that I am considered not at fault for that. I am also hopeful that we may yet get back the £300 excess that I had to pay out.
- The octopods have mildly blotted their copybook once again by emailing me and telling me that they will be taking an increased DD amount next week. Err, no, you tried to change the amount when I changed tariff, I changed it back. I contacted them by email this morning and already have a response on that saying that the correct amount will be taken. I can see how it happened, as the tariff was effectively changed twice, so things got lost in translation somewhere along the line. Still, a god reason to keep a close eye on things like this! Anyway - dealt with swiftly and so they are forgiven.
- Food for the week is going to plan (having a plan makes this far easier - note to self) and this evening will be the macaroni cheese I made at the weekend. On a less enjoyable front I also need to find a home in the freezer for the remainder of this. Sigh.
That's about the lot for today I think. Happy wednesday all - it's all downhill to the weekend from here!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Totally agree with having a mealplan! The weeks that don't end up being more stressful than they should & much more unhealthy!
Having said that, we are currently off piste as one of our 0li0 friends was practically begging for help to unload her freezer of some rather nice things!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! It's mad isn't it - we all know that meal planning makes life easier but so many of us don't quite get there as much as we should! Hey ho - a key job for tomorrow will be updating mine and adding an additional week into it as well! Definitely can't be turning down requests to help with eating of tasty things RT - that is a very good reason for being off-piste!
The Green Bean Macaroni Cheese was extremely tasty - I'm a big believer in adding stuff to mac cheese as has previously been mentioned and this version turns it into a great hearty side dish, I served it with salmon last night which worked really well. The other two portions have made it into the freezer but will probably come out again either next week or the week after for a straight repeat of last night's meal.
I am on an absolute Wordle roll with another two days on the bounce of getting it in 2 attempts. I can take relatively little credit for this as realistically my choice of starting word is the star here - giving me three letters in each of the past two days. It's still a good feeling though!
MSE Stuff:
- Meal plan working for us - which is a great reason to ensure I keep it up!
- already started building this week's shopping list off the back of that plan too.
- the Lils 50% off apples offer still being on it a winner - might try and stock up for a fortnight off the back of that
- Sat down yesterday and did my quarterly savings review - all looking good.
- Also started to put together the October budget which is currently full of some unknowns due to the possibilities around trips to Devon being needed - we'll just have to wait and see on that.
- the only "one off" expenditure for October is the boiler service and the Household pot will cover that.
- Now have a note of exactly which reg savers need manual transfers - I'm currently inclined to leave the Pr1nc1pal1ty ones that way as they are only 6 month ones anyway, but the V1rg1n M0n3y one will get automated over the weekend.
- Also have a note of how long the just-matured NW one will fund some of the others for, and a plan of how things get funded going forwards.
- Managed to gain 2p energy credit from the last free energy hour - which as we weren't actually in at the time I am quite impressed with!
The low-key excellent MSE news is that we are now in a position where allowing for joint savings and just some of our personal savings we are mortgage neutral - although due to being in a 5 year fix which allows unlimited overpayments with no penalty we're not likely to be doing anything in particular with that information! I'm viewing it as low-key because it does still involve our personal savings pots too - which we both very much see as part of our long term plan for finances. At the point where we get to the stage of being mortgage neutral with joint funds only I will be seeing that as a major win!
Jobs for the weekend:
- More garden tidying
- decide whether to strip all the remaining tomatoes off the plants and bring indoors for ripening - I'll see what the forecast says.
- Possibly go and buy logs if MrEH is about - I can't do it without him though as the bags are just too big and it would also need both cars really.
- More meal planning with a focus on the freezer as I want to start working through the contents ahead of the christmas season now.
- Cook the half shoulder of lamb I bought last weekend. I will probably do that regardless of whether MrEH is around as if he's not it will just mean more as leftovers which is fine.
- Resist the temptation to buy the Co-op posh dinner for £10 offer as nice as it sounds, we have plenty of food in to be eating our way through! (It would potentially feed me for much of the weekend if MrEH is away though, AND give me a bottle of wine to drink...hmmm...)
- Get the washing up to date - specially if the weather on Saturday looks to be as nice as forecast

I’ve done my tomatoes this morning. Partly because if they didn’t get done today it would be another 10 days before I could, but with the weather turning I decided I didn’t want to risk blight setting in. Am very undecided about chillis and peppers though - might ask Dad to keep an eye on the forecast and bring them in if necessary. Yes - it's the way the weather is going that is making me think it's a good plan.
I'm seriously considering trying to see if I can keep the Hungarian Black chilli alive over the winter - not something I have ever tried, and we will save seed from it, but allowing that they weren't the easiest to get growing it would be nice to see if the original plant would survive. I think it will have to go on the front rom windowsill if so - although I have no idea whether that might be too warm for it. It's possibly the only option for the amount of light it will need though.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
